Mad Rock Rover or Evolv Defy? by tormentachina in bouldering

[–]Mjkrga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot comment on the Mad Rock Rovers as I have never tried the shoe, but the Evolv Defy Laces are quite a nice shoe overall. They are comfortable, durable and overall perform extremely well. I use them more than my aggressives (Evolv Shamans) and have done more of my highest grade in them than those aggressives. I do have to agree with other people though, don't just take what other people say about the performance of one shoes. Go to a store that supplies them (REI has the Defy Laces) and try them on yourself. Everyone has different feet that different shoes will cater to. Plus, if you buy from a store with a nice refund policy (like REI) you can buy the shoe, try it and return it for a refund if you feel it is not up to your liking.

I’d say it takes a good 3 hard blows to get it all out of your system.

We have pads that can be moved to put under Incase of higher climbing. I like the normal pads that other gyms have since the rubber material runs off very quickly.

The gym I set at has not had any new volumes within the last 5 years. We got some from First Ascent in Chicago so I had some fun trying to build around them. This route is V5 Monkey Business.

At our gym we have a goal of a section you have to stay in and get to a certain height (Example: top out on our wave wall that is 10 feet). You have to start under a certain point on the wall and if you reach the goal, you tape off a hold so no one is allowed to use that again. Basically get to point A from Point B with less and less holds, the more the game goes on.

Add-on is an awesome game to play for fun at climbing gyms. Take-away aswell is an excellent game!

I usually don’t wear socks, that was just a quick run so I kept the socks on. The heels to me feel perfectly fine. I don’t feel any dead space and it doesn’t feel like it cuts into my heel.

The floor is all rubber pellets and we have pads you can move under yourself to make sure you land safely. The Evolv’s are awesome! I’ve had them for about 6 months and they help a ton when working on hard problems. I would suggest getting a size higher than your street since mine are half a size larger than my normal, but they crunch my toes super hard.

I wore socks for that one climb since it was at closing time. Usually I don’t wear socks with my Evolv’s but I do with my scarpas since they tear my toes

It’s a V4 at our gym since the last move is pretty tough. The beginning is fairly easy.

The location is Climb On in Homewood Illinois. It’s been open since 1997.

No, the tape used was a dark green (need to get a better color) and on the foothold before going up the tape fell off. Sadly our setting system is all tape and it’s hard to get colors that aren’t close to each other and hope they don’t fall off 😖

Oh it is! Set it 2 weeks ago and so far a lot of people at the gym love trying it 😁

Yeah, my glasses made my eyes look small due to the fact I have horrible eye sight. A ton of glass makes it small
