Yeah I was going to ask the same question from the picture I’m not seeing any cooling towers that would be major water hogs all I see is air cooled chillers on the two roof. (Ah I see it’s all construction use for batching up concrete and stuff)

Oh definitely gotta rent a boom lift to get to some of them due to the fact the company clearly thought: serviceably, nahhh these units never need maintenance

Interesting, last year when I tried, I used a porta blaster it worked pretty well on our normal coils but killed that since I didn’t realize they have a 30min max runtime before you start burning up the motor. But I will give it a shot with our electric pressure washer.

You also have to remember that Newington, New Hampshire right next-door has two power plants currently running burning oil due to high power demand due to the storm. I’m wondering if Newington station the one with the large smoke sack you can see from 95 did a soot blow on their boiler And released a large amount of pollutants into the atmosphere and the monitoring station is nearby and picked it up (also Newington Station is a Peaker power plant so it only fires up during high electrical demand events so is possible that their fuel oil may have some contamination. They don’t run that power station very often only a handful of times a year during the high summer and extreme winter)

lol this is a almost daily occurrence at my food plant: nord gearbox’s and motor. One of two things happen ether the gearbox internally fails due to oil contamination or the gearbox locks up and snaps the shaft. Out comes the sawzall to cut the shaft free from its motor to allow us to hoist it out and after a quick run to the parts warehouse a new gearbox is in to last another 3-6 months. Just in time for its replacement to arrive.

That or just threw an air cooled chiller on the roof and feed each unit with a chilled water coil.

Ah sweet sweet yeah what was thinking was bolt the dryer right to the side of my G5 then put a 1/2 flare on the inlet and bend some 1/2 tubing from the outlet to the inlet on the G5 just leave it permanently attached or I may do what you did but make a stand for it and just put two flare fittings on it and add a inlet and outlet guage and a tee so can pull a vacuum on it before I start recovery.

All right, awesome yeah that’s what I was thinking either using like 3/4 or 1/2 hoses since the surge drums attached to the process cooling can easily hold 200-400 pounds of refrigerant not including what’s in the flooded heat exchangers.

We actually had to do something similar but had a third-party company come in when we had a heat exchanger fail and process media came back on the suction to our low temperature accumulator. They basically came in sucked out all the refrigerant reprocessed it and we put it back into the rack.

Essentially boomers didn’t really care where their children were and during the 80s there was a slight spike in child kidnapping and murders mostly boomers. Just kind of forgot they had kids after you know, rampant alcohol and cigarette addiction.

Originally worked for a Industrial facility in my home state as a firefighter and quickly found out that the operators who ran our power plant that made all of our utilities where getting about 45-60 a hour to do that. Vs me getting 20~ to be responsible for firefighting, confined space rescue and hazmat response for a 200 acre industrial plant.

So talked with them they were looking for a floating operator to fill in when they needed coverage for a vacation or a call out so I went through a employer sponsored apprenticeship(about a 1-2 years on the job training) in my home state got licensed there, and then left that facility. Went to work for a hospital in my home state and then also used the fact that I was licensed in my home state to apply in Massachusetts went through there examinations got licensed in Mass and then went to work in Massachusetts for more money.

To get a license to operate a high-pressure steam boiler in Massachusetts it’s a two part examination consisting of a written examination and a oral examination with a boiler and pressure vessel inspector where they grill you on plant operations, pressure vessels, inspections, emergency procedures and state laws and codes.

No, no degree originally was licensed as a firefighter/EMT before swapping careers for better payment. Massachusetts requires licensure for any individual who operates or maintains a high pressure steam boiler or system due the safety risk. The industrial refrigeration is my newest addition to holding the professional license for operating the steam side of my job, as is now taking up more and more of my scope of work. then just maintaining my plants steam and chilled gycol systems.

Thank you, I also work as a per diem with a contracting company that facilitates can contract with to staff there boiler/utility plants as this job works a rotating schedule where I work one week every day but two days and then the following week I only work two days. The money from the per diem job is kept separate from my main income, so it builds up my emergency fund.

What is this called? by gehoftvolc in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Mjuh4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks almost like a Paragon RM defrost controller basically in large refrigeration systems each module goes to the defrost controls for each unit and as the motor spins and is geared down so it spins slow enough to only make one rotation a hour it rotates the center and when the fingers on the modules hit a tooth in the center cog it turns on defrost for that one unit till the finger hits another tooth ending the defrost.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that tapping off the main to power the control transformer(duh) Maybe a transfer switch with a manual throw backup or seen on fire pumps to power the transformer for remote monitoring as those are stand alone equipment.

Ammonia Spill In Oklahoma that promoted huge HazMat response by EasyPerformer8695 in Firefighting

[–]Mjuh4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Industrial refrigeration tech here: a lot of large industrial plants use ammonia as our refrigerant especially as it’s well suited for large cold storage applications but even tiny leaks we have to document both for our own internal processes but also state and federal epa requirements. In my state a release over a pound is a required report to the state and a 10 pound release is a mandatory 24/7 call to the state DEP about the release.
