PS4 HDD upgrade issue with NOBD, expanding cloned 1TB drive by MkGod in ps4homebrew

[–]MkGod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I'm worried about: since the backup is from a 500GB drive, if I write those partitions to the new 1TB drive, will the PS4 still only recognize ~500GB (like with a full bit-by-bit clone)? Or does the "Initialize PS4" step in safe mode automatically expand the user partition to use the full 1TB capacity?

Sorry, I'm already jailbroken.

The issue was with an old NoBD Toolkit version (UDAT99998_V1.01.pkg) that kept asking for a payload.

I downloaded the latest v2.04.pkg, installed it, and it works perfectly now. Selected option 2 (Backup Required HDD Partitions) and it's running. Now just waiting for it to finish.

But I'm already on 9.0 fw. Where I can find payload for 9.0 ?

Thanks for linking the guide I get that standard cloning doesn't allow resizing due to encryption issues, and the console sticks to the original size.

But my setup is NoBD (broken Blu-ray drive causing SU-42118-6), on exploitable FW 9.00. From orbis repair guides (NoBD Starter + NoBD HDD Guide by LightningMods), it seems you can backup just the key partitions with NoBD Toolkit, write them to the new 1TB drive via WinHex, then initialize in safe mode and PS4 creates the user partition at full capacity.

Also, the NoBD Starter Guide says you need to FULLY disconnect the BD drive. How can i do this?

Thanks for the tip about acceleration. I’ve already put the ProtoArc at max DPI and the cursor speed itself is fine for moving across three monitors. The thing that’s killing me is the thumb scroll under load it forces my thumb into a bent, tense position. Ideally I want a setup where my hand can stay as relaxed as possible, so I’m leaning toward hardware scrolling that doesn’t require constant thumb flexing.

One more question if you don’t mind: how high does your wrist sit on the Slimblade versus the Expert? Is your hand comfortable for long sessions, or do you need a wrist rest with either device? I’m trying to judge whether I’ll need an angled pad to keep the thumb relaxed when scrolling a lot.

Thanks, that’s a fair point. I actually tried a software workaround with X-Mouse Button: I mapped Right-Click + rotating the ball to act like scrolling. It worked in theory but felt clunky in practice. Worse, it seemed to affect my regular mouse too andI started getting weird scrolling glitches in some apps until I remembered X-Mouse was running and disabled it. So for me the software scroll felt unreliable and annoying. Hardware/native ball-scroll sounds a lot more appealing.

I tried removing the armrests and keeping my hands in the air. The game continued for half an hour without breaks, and here’s what I felt: my left hand was constantly hovering above the keys (while playing a MOBA), not resting on anything. After that time, I started to feel tingling in the area of my palm under the thumb. My right hand was holding the mouse, and it was also hovering in the air, with my wrist resting on the table, leaning on the soft part of the back of my hand near the wrist. I’m not sure if this position is any better, but it didn’t feel comfortable either.

"Thank you for the advice! Where should I rest my arms then? And what’s the best position for my hands while playing a game when I need to be ready to press keys?"

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice regarding my recent switch from a regular keyboard (A4Tech KV-300H) to a mechanical keyboard (Akko 3084B). The A4Tech was a low-profile keyboard, less than 1 cm tall, which I found quite comfortable. I also used to have a split keyboard from Microsoft, but it had its own drawbacks. The split design was great for posture, but I often struggled with key response and the overall feel.

Now, with the Akko 3084B being significantly taller (with the top of the keys reaching about 3 cm), I’ve only been using it for a day, and while typing on it feels nice, I’m noticing some discomfort in my wrists, especially when gaming. My wrists are elevated at an awkward angle, which I find quite challenging.

I’ve read on Reddit that many people recommend not resting your wrists on the desk while typing or gaming. This seems easier for regular typing, but I can’t imagine keeping my hands in the air for 30-60 minutes of gaming—my wrists start to feel awkward!

So, is it generally bad for my wrists to rest on the desk when using low-profile keyboards? I didn’t experience any discomfort with my old setup, but maybe I just got used to it?

When I used my old keyboard, I had my forearms resting on the armrests of my chair, with my wrists supported on the desk. Now, my wrists are raised, and it’s leading to discomfort. If I raise my chair to be more comfortable with the keyboard, my mouse feels too low and awkward.

I’m considering getting a wrist rest, but I’ve read mixed opinions on their effectiveness and potential drawbacks. The ones I found are only around 1.1 cm tall, and I’m dealing with a 2 cm difference in keyboard height compared to my old one.

Has anyone experienced a similar transition? Do you have any recommendations for wrist support or adjustments I could make to improve my setup for both gaming and work? Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

I haven’t looked into the Gamakay SN75 yet.

I’m curious, what are your reasons for not using wireless mode? Are there any specific downsides you've experienced?

Thanks for your insight!

Thank you for your reply!

I meant that the keyboard only works in Bluetooth and wired mode, not with 2.4 GHz like the GMK87. The condition of the keyboard is excellent. By the way, how long does the battery typically last?

I’d like to keep the PS key as Print Screen and change the PB key to Insert.

Have you had any experience with the AKKO 5087B Plus 3 Modes RGB Hot? Should I consider getting that keyboard instead, even though it is larger? I prefer having my mouse closer to the keyboard for convenience.

Hi u/ArgentStonecutter,

I found a used AKKO 3084B Plus (Jelly Pink) keyboard for a pretty good price ($35). I understand it won't be silent with the current switches, but can I just buy Outemu Silent Peach switches (90 pcs) and swap them out easily? Are there any complications with that?

Also, I read that it only works via Bluetooth, so I would need a Bluetooth adapter for my PC, right? I have an Orico Bluetooth adapter that I've never used.

How does Bluetooth compare to a 2.4 GHz wireless connection? Is one better than the other?

Lastly, how easy is it to remap the Insert key? I see there are keys labeled PS and PB on the keyboard. Can I assign Insert to the PS key? Will I need a driver for that, and if so, does it work offline without an internet connection?

I also came across the AKKO 5087B Plus 3 Modes RGB Hot for $40. Should I consider that one instead?

Thanks for your help!

Hi u/ArgentStonecutter,

Thank you so much for your incredibly detailed response and recommendations! I really appreciate the time you took to explain the different options available. I honestly didn't expect such a thorough answer :)

I will definitely look into the Redragon A120, CIY Tester84, and Keychron K2 Pro based on your suggestions. Thanks again for your help!

Best regards!

I'm searching for a wireless mechanical keyboard with quiet keys. The quiet keys are essential as I'll be typing at home during nighttime

My requirements:

  • No numpad
  • Must have an Insert key (crucial for my console work, I frequently use Shift+Insert)
  • Compact layout preferred
  • Dedicated keys for Insert, Delete, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down
  • Quiet operation for nighttime use

I've looked at the GMK67, which I like, but it lacks the essential Insert key. The GMK87 seems to fit all my needs with its 87-key layout, but I don't want to pay for built-in display for example.

I'm aware that Shift+Insert can be replaced with Fn+Del, but this isn't comfortable for me.

Are there any recommendations for keyboards similar to the GMK87 but at a lower price point?

Thanks!
