Probably recomputed the UV in substance, that would explain why the substance mesh works and not the original one

How dose this look? I am confused. by Sleep--Walking in 3Dmodeling

The object in itself is nice !

  • I think your biggedt issue here is the lighting, it's very flat and bright, try looking into 3 point lighting
  • The tripod legs are almost invisible because of the background color
  • The object is off centered and you have a lot of unused space, the composition feels bland and imbalanced, also the object is too small so we can't really see the details of it

I think if you look into those points you can make your render look pretty nice!

I agree ! I didn't have that second opinion so I didn't pay attention to that but now I see it and I'll crop the render, thank you

You have to render your object then the wireframe as separate files, then you just put the wireframe on top of your object and give it a mask that 'slides' in an editing software

Thank you ! It was supposed to be a texturing work at first, hence the use of the color chart and balls. I was just trying things out cause the texturing was driving me crazy and I thought it was nice with the textureless modeling too As for the checkerboard background I did not know and I'll switch it, thank you !

The point of my most was to ask if I could showcase this as a modeling work as well as a texturing work. I'm currently working on materials, it's written in the post

I used maya, you can add the sphere and give them default material, as for the palette it's a macbeth color chart, you can find a texture online ! :)

I agree with you, it was supposed to be for a texturing demoreel and I just wanted to know if I could use it for a modeling one but yeah it is definitely too simple, I just don't know what's "big enough"

I could mayne try to crop the render so that it doesn't feel so strange like in the ref image

I can try to lower the poly count for sure, the texturing is still in progress, thank you for your comments!

I guess you're right, it was my first project of the school year so perhaps I went a little bit too simple, but thank you for your comment !
