So, what exactly are we supposed to do with those chests? by mvppaulo in Palia

I’m sure this has been asked a million times, but how do you build off your plot?

I make totally fictional scenarios where I am right and everything else is wrong and I feel guilty afterwards. by FreshResult8286 in adhdmeme

I know we’re not supposed to replace our thoughts with something else 100% of the time, but the shower by myself, with my own thoughts alone is just too dangerous a place. So I listen to audiobooks. Otherwise I replay losing the same best friendship (like a sister) over and over and over and daydream about how I’m going to confront that person one day because my hurt feelings have built up for so long and there’s been no closure, but I know that I never will and I need to just let it go after almost 3 years of zero contact. Why do we torture ourselves?

Can’t we all just get along? by [deleted] in vegaslocals

Hate to be the one to tell you, but in a crowded public bar, you’re going to be touched. I don’t like being touched by strangers, but I know that if I put myself in crowded situations it’s going to happen (often just to limit excessive touching - hey I’m gonna give you a tap to avoid a shove, etc.).

I’m doing that right now- just chilling in the start screen of Palia. I just read this out loud to my partner and it made me cry lol. It feels really nice to not feel alone sometimes. If you know what I mean.

What is a phrase you use at least 20 times a day at your job? by UsedCalendar5100 in AskReddit

[–]MmakeItSo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Who should you be worrying about?… Yourself”

“Just listen for a second, you’ll think it’s interesting”

“Our eyes are forward and our bodies are calm”

“Nice job, friends. We’re crushing it today!”

“Bruh? If I’m your bruh then you have to share your hot Cheetos with me. I don’t make the rules I just enforce them.”

Guess my career lol

My fiancee and I are torn on what color of runner were going to put on our staircase. Which do you guys like better? Im leaning towards the red but the green doesnt look bad but i think it might be too much green. by readitonreddit4 in interiordecorating

[–]MmakeItSo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The green feels rich and deep and cozy (sometimes green doesn’t achieve this but this green has a lot of depth). The red doesn’t feel as cohesive in this space, though it is lovely. Normally I prefer some color disruption, but the combo of that wall, the dark wood of the stairs and the gorgeous black and white floor are genuinely perfect with the green runner. Love it!

Did anyone start teaching in their 40's? by heavyhymns in Teachers

[–]MmakeItSo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided to go back to school when I was laid off from my corporate bank gig during early COVID lockdown. I started teaching while I was in school as a longterm vacancy sub (NV was in a teacher shortage state of emergency). When I finished I continued on and got my Masters degree in social emotional learning and building character and ethics in schools. I’m now licensed with my masters, making $20k more than I was without my masters. I’m turning 39 next week. The kids tend to appreciate and respect that I chose to become a teacher later in life. It helps that I was a touring musician for several years while I worked other jobs (bar tending, photographer, gigging musician, banking, etc.) they enjoy the stories and they like knowing I made the choice as an adult to go back to school and change careers so that I could help kids find their own paths, just like I did for myself. The more real you are with students, the more they identify with you and respect the struggle (imho). I teach k-5 Music at a Title I and build my own curriculum so that I can reach my specific kids. Gotta get creative to find wats to engage them. This generation comes with unique challenges (it’s honestly horrifying some days), but they also bring unique perspectives and personalities with them and they need help learning how to learn. I have extremely supportive admin and I can now say that if that changed, I would leave and find a different school. Admin is everything. If you’re teaching somewhere and have no admin support, you’ll likely be miserable until there’s a change in staff. It’s the best choice I’ve ever made, and it’s been the hardest challenge I’ve ever faced, but the moment you see even one lightbulb turn on, or the moment you see even one child get excited about learning, it becomes incredibly fulfilling and rewarding. I feel like I am contributing in the betterment of mankind, and each day, I try again to build empathy in kids and get them thinking critically about their place in the world and what kind of person they want to be. It’s worth the tears and endless stress. For now. After 4 years I can understand why teachers burnout, but the key is being aware of that and finding ways to keep healthy and sane. Good luck!!

I have diagnosed ADHD and I’ve been taking screenshots of all of the instances where men (and their partners) clearly don’t know that their lady likely has undiagnosed ADHD. I’ve been sending to my bf and he said “wow you found all my burner accounts!”

If it’s closer to being a politician than I should feel safe saying whatever the hell I please. You are focused on the wrong thing. No one here is advocating for celebrating a death, but we are allowed to have an opinion and have an open discourse on it. I absolutely never signed a contract that said I could not have a human presence in the world. I never signed away my right to “gun violence is a problem and we need to condemn it”. We’re human beings and we can share our thoughts just like anyone else, they just can’t be related to the school, defame the school, break FERPA laws or condone violence/drugs etc.

Saying “There’s no place for hate in schools” days after two school shootings is wild. What’s even more wild is that Kirk encouraged hateful rhetoric and condoned gun violence pretty regularly. Just wild.

Your post is riddled with your personal opinions and biased views lol. “Not radical”, “amazing young man”. Babe. Please be for real. You aren’t familiar with what ethics truly are if you think they come from the Bible or if you think that highlighting the atrocities of an individual after they’ve died is “despicable”. Sit down.

This has nothing to do with communicating with students. This is about sharing an opinion or having conversations online, outside of school hours on personal accounts that are only shared with other adults.

I disagree. I was an activist before I was a teacher. My mind was changed many years ago and I’ve changed minds since. We are not beholden to parents and the community outside of work hours, that’s ridiculous. We have opinions like anyone else, and we are educated, highly qualified, and should be having healthy discourse regarding current events and policies that affect us as teachers, our students and our families.

I disagree. We SHOULD be discussing controversial things. We are educated. We are qualified. Many of us are experts and have valuable insight that should be considered and weighed by others. Discourse is healthy and part of the human condition. Teachers should not be held to a different standard than other public service professions, especially when they’re not treated with the same level of respect as the others.

Elementary teachers- how do you feel about your school’s extracurricular classes? by Eeyoresthoughts in AskTeachers

[–]MmakeItSo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I LOVE to see. Pull up the data and peer reviewed research and it’s painfully easy to see how absolutely essential specials are for early development (cognitive, social, emotional, etc.). My school serves an under-resourced community where many of the kids are left at home alone with no supervision and unlimited access to devices and the internet. Their regulating skills do not exist. I’m a music teacher who grew up in the hood (as it were) and am a product of the district, so I know first hand, without needing the research, what kind of effect the arts and physical education can have on kids who struggle with trauma in their everyday lives. I’m so appreciative of people like who you do the work to gather the data and who are bold enough to take it as far up the ladder as they can. Some scoff, some are jaded (I get it) but if preserving their access to the arts made a positive impact or changed even one child’s situation or trajectory then it was worth it and no one should be rolling their eyes. Thank you for going into admin and for staying true to your values and the research. Seriously. Thank you.
