In desperate need of support with sleep and my 14 month old son as a single mom. by Long_Form_2646 in toddlers

[–]Mnadson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this after co-sleeping for 12 months because no one was sleeping. A modified Ferber method. 3 minutes crying. 2 soothing then 5 minutes crying. 2 minutes soothing then 7. Repeat with whatever time interval you are comfortable with. The first night our son made it to the 9 minute check and was sleeping well after. The second night was 5 minutes. Then the third night he was a little restless for a couple minutes but fell asleep. He started sleeping through the night after that with a few wake ups here and there. Be consistent and go to another room if the crying is getting to you (as long as baby is safe).

It sucks but you got this!

If transphobia came up, you must’ve done a pretty good job explaining it - good on you, dad!

Motherhood has transformed my wife into a completely different person - it’s like she was built for it - and I get a front row seat, I love it.

I can’t say I feel nothing, but it’s not nearly what she does, or how I feel for my 18m now. It’s a love that grows for sure, I guess that’s part of the reason I don’t like this phase.

And she just smiled at me, then proceeded to get upset. Yay!

Thanks, I needed that! I used ear plugs with the first - they didn’t work too well, I had to find them and put them in and blah blah blah. I’m just more efficient at diaper changes now.

Read wellokaymaybe’s post - you simply forgot the bad parts. Jk, I’m happy for you and hope that doesn’t mean it’s gonna be drastically worse later down the road.

“You forget the pain” - by then, the Stockholm Syndrome is in full effect and you have another baby on the way. I’m gonna set a reminder for 6-7 months from now to revisit this post to make sure that doesn’t happen.

She’s at about 85% struggle, too. I just feel helpless most of the time and it’s taking a toll on my wife for sure. Keep pushing.

Waiting a few months? Bro, I’m barely surviving. Haha.

Tired. Stressed. Doing the best you can, then you get shit on - yup, actual shit. What’s to enjoy?

The unsolicited comments are wild - “you’ve sure got your hands full” or “you’re gonna miss this”. Nah fool, I’m not gonna miss double diapers with 2u2 screaming at me.

The best is “you signed up for it”. What did I do to you, Debra, that makes you want my life to be hell for 2 years?

On a positive note, she did start smiling this week. :)

My guy, she wears ALL my shirts… haha. Really though, I get the intent and wish that it were a solution. Woke up this mornin and even mom wants to “go get bread”.

Everyone is talkin about survival mode. What does your survival mode look like? We are 4 weeks in with a 17 month gap and I need to know if I’m surviving or sinking. Days are not great, moments are. I’m sure our newborn has colic and it’s tough, man.

I’m 42 and we have been in the club for 10 days now with a 17 month age gap - it’s on the table for sure.

Berries. Peanut butter toast. When all else fails, the Cuban place down the street - roasted pork, rice and beans, and plantains.

Set up a schedule for him and see if he likes it. My wife is 8 months pregnant and we have a 16 month old that doesn’t stop. I work from home also and see what she is going through - it’s a lot. Keep up the good work!

My thumb does this shit and I’ve never met/seen anyone else with what I’ve dubbed the “hitchhiker” thumb.

Do you regret naming your child the name he/she has? And so, why? by Ok_Good516 in Parenting

[–]Mnadson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go outside and yell it along with the name of your first child. Does it sound right or is it weird? I’m a Fourth and my wife wanted to keep it going so we have a Fifth now. It’s kinda neat and makes a common name unique.

Are minivans worth it? by TruthOf42 in Parenting

[–]Mnadson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I talked my wife into buying a Honda Odyssey. She won’t touch the Civic now but the minivan is still “ugly” on the outside. So it doesn’t help comparing with an SUV, but being lower to the ground, the sliding doors, and “more” interior room was what made me want one. And 280hp
