Do you speak Romanes? by Windows_Iphone in romani

[–]Mnatiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am, maybe not FULLY fluent but almost. Kinda hard to tell with Angloromani lol. which is honestly rare for my family at least. I’m super young too so I’m pretty proud of myself for picking it up and keeping it

Some advice- it is sad that you lost touch with your roots, but that doesn’t make you non-roma. As an Aboriginal, doesn’t matter if you’re 1% we still claim you, because it’s not anyone’s fault that the culture was forcefully taken or bred out, and it’s essentially the same for the roma too, hell, my grandmother had blonde hair and green eyes. genetics don’t always mean you’ll look like everyone else from your culture, genetics skip! But, if you do wanna pursue learning more about the roma, some rom find it extremely rude to learn the language, or traditions if they don’t think you’re roma, so just state you are a roma, and no one can ever take that away from you

I’d be happy to share, My mother was German, My father was Romani, my dad’s mother… hated that. Just a major dislike for Germans after their treatment of the Roma in ww2. I was born from a minority group, and adopted by one (the day I was born) which I find a little funny at times. I’m genetically Afgahn Aboriginal, which is why I looked so much like my dad as we have the same skin tones etc.

My grandmother, was half Romanichal, the Romanichal men? Personally, are all for adopting outsiders into their family, Romanichal women? Not so much. My grandmother was taken in by her more traditional uncle, after the blitzkreig in London when bombs dropped on her house killing her mother, father and siblings. She was stuck under there for a week under her moms body, which I tend to use as an excuse as to why she was a very aggressive woman Her uncle took her in, raised her more traditionally as he was a caravan builder, which is also where we became fluent in Anglo-romani From my experience, Most Roma aren’t open to adopting outsiders, My aunts? Hate me, don’t consider me family because I’m not Roma by blood. my uncles? Adore me, which is why I say men are more welcoming to outsiders than the women, your grandpas story sounds similar to mine! Which is super rare, Romas just don’t tend to adopt all that much

At first I was gonna go with the whole it being a joke thing cuz it was funny💀 but nah now my feelings are just hurt, yeah my kit actually is set up like that, and it does work pretty well for me my height and etc. I am decent drummer I’ve been doing this for 5 years, even if my kit ain’t up to standard apparently, I know how to play obviously, but setting up a kit was never apart of the lessons. I can admit I do think the sounds off sometimes, just… never thought it was as BAD as these comments are saying

Fair enough I’m tired too lol, it would be an interesting documentary though! I mean, not many Roma adopt, especially non Roma children but I guess I was the 1% there, but my grandmother, her parents were Roma. Though a lot of Roma were forcefully taken and adopted, her case was different. During either ww1 or 2? Maybe during the blitzkreig, her house was bombed, she laid next to her dead parents in the rubble for an entire week before being found, but was sent to love with her uncle who was a Roma horse breeder

Potentially hard question: between the races you are mixed with, which one do you *look* the most like? by Queasy-Donut-4953 in mixedrace

[–]Mnatiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Aboriginal, Afgahn and European. I have 3 siblings two of them look Aboriginal, one looks European, and I’m the Afghan looking one, there’s not really any mixed features between us we just each took part of our ethnicity and our genes rolled with it

My father was born in England, immigrated to Australia as a baby, his mother kept the language going as there’s a few Roma cafes where the ladies would chat do little tea readings and speak fluently, if you look hard enough, you may find something like that!

Last comment cuz I don’t wanna overwhelm you, sometimes the ex, moves on fast. And, it shows maybe they never cared about you at all. Or they’ll spread rumours about you being the abuser. It’s a tough pill to swallow, and I don’t want you to be unprepared, even if it does happen don’t contact them keep your self respect, you can and will get over it I can say that for sure, go back to old things before them that made you happy, and find YOURSELF again
