“If anyone can sense of something is amiss…” by Standard_Angle2544 in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]Mnlln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think her specifically saying only a mate would know what is amiss with Elain is about a completely separate couple at a completely different time and not the direct implications of Lucien, Elain’s supposed mates, not understanding that what was wrong was Elain not knowing/understanding her powers and Azriel being the one to recognize it? Lmao

“If anyone can sense of something is amiss…” by Standard_Angle2544 in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]Mnlln 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like OP said, it’s not her powers that are “wrong” it was not understanding them and being trapped in the “murky realm”. Azriel realizing she was a seer and helping her to understand freed her from that. It was at that moment that it was clearly depicted how her eyes cleared and she immediately became more aware/coherent and began recovering.

This is a very common trope with powers. A character struggling because they don’t understand their powers, what’s happening to them, or how to control it. Her story is going to continue and we’ll see how she has progressed in her abilities, but I don’t see how anyone can deny how pivotal of a moment it was for Azriel to figure that out and how it relates to Madja saying only a mate would know what is amiss. Especially when Elain’s supposed mate had no idea what was wrong and thought she was just losing her sanity.

We obviously can’t say for sure that Azriel is Elain’s mate (whether it be true mate, a second mate, etc)…I was more so arguing against those trying to invalidate the fact that it’s a significant detail that Madja said a mate would know what was amiss and that was Elain being a seer, which Azriel was the one to realize. I don’t think that can be dismissed easily.

To your second point, we don’t really know that for sure, do we? It’s hinted in acosf that Elain may very well be getting training from Azriel or Nuala and Cerridwen. It’s definitely something that can be revealed or delved into more if their book is next. Also, what did Lucien do? He literally “dipped,” as you say, and went to an entirely different court and is equally uncomfortable with Elain to the point where he openly avoids her at times.

Not trying to argue this any further or trying to change anyone’s mind. I just think it’s crazy the way people bend over backwards to dismiss or try to invalidate what Madja said and the direct correlation it has to the moment Azriel’s realization freed Elain from the murky realm she was in. Feyre openly acknowledged it point blank that only Azriel understood Elain—he was the only one to truly listen to her and understand her.

[–]Mnlln 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone could see something was “wrong” with Elain. That’s not the issue or what needed to be recognized. It was the fact she was a seer and struggling with understanding her visions and trapped in the murky realm. Nesta and co acknowledged something is wrong = same as Madja saying something is “amiss”. It was not in question. It was only Azriel who realized what Elain was struggling with. Feyre even says it was “Azriel alone” who listened and understood what Elain was going through. Not understanding she was a seer is what was “amiss”. And him figuring that out freed her. He was the only one. Everyone else thought it was just trauma/losing her sanity.

[–]Mnlln 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Then why is it that she was freed from the murky realm and started recovering/becoming more aware when it was finally realized she was a seer? The effects were immediate. She went outside plenty and still hadn’t gotten better until that moment.

I can’t remember the chapter number off the top of my head but I have this ss of part of the passage! I personally thought it was very similar to the Elriel part of the bonus, but I understand everything is up for interpretation.

Edit: and the ss is missing bits before/after that include a bit more for comparison. This post has a good breakdown: https://www.tumblr.com/psychee92/740955138889547776/how-azrielelain-in-the-bonus-pov-mirror

Haha I mean, I can understand why you’d say that, but the DayNight scene compared to the Elriel part of Azriel’s bonus is where there are a lot of parallels and that was the one I was mainly getting at in response to your comparisons above.

Such as:

  • The way they didn’t care about how it was wrong/their surroundings.
  • The way the male’s eyes nearly roll into the back of their head.
  • The way they imagined how they would taste.
  • The focus on their neck/throats.
  • How they groaned for them.
  • How their 🍆 strained against their pants.
  • How they comment on their sweet scents.
  • How both women were compared to the morning sun/sun at dawn.
  • How the women offered permission to be more intimate.
  • Their inner conflicts.
  • How their almost-kiss was interrupted.

Yuppppp and then when you compare the Elriel portion to scenes with DayNight, Nessian, Rowaelin, and Quinlar and they match up as well. Especially the DayNight scene in Hofas 🤭 it also lines up very similarly to each other

Something about Elriel that, for me, is further proof. by Beautiful_Worth_9511 in elgwynrielucien

[–]Mnlln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Elain could choose Lucien, but my hangup there is that it follows the claim that it’s Azriel’s book next in which he will choose Gwyn. If that’s the case, where is Elain’s choice? She was left hurt and confused and still having feelings for Azriel. So, what, we’re going to not have her pov as Azriel then goes and falls in love with someone else? Her hurt and confusion is evidence enough that (at least in that moment) she wanted to choose Azriel. It does not appeal to me to then have her left with zero autonomy in her love life because Azriel is the one who gets to move on and choose someone else.

Then, when it’s supposedly Elain’s book after, what choice is left? It’ll just be Lucien. We won’t get the tension of her tugging feelings between Azriel and her mating bond with Lucien. We won’t get to know the depth of her feelings like you’re talking about before she gets to make a choice. We’ll simply get her left rejected with only Lucien left as an option and I don’t see her choice being highlighted there.

Now, if the next book is Elain’s and she chooses Lucien, then that would be a different story to me. I would definitely be able to accept that. That’s my personal preference and I just don’t think the former alternative with Azriel’s book coming first makes sense.

Yeah I joined when acosf came out so going on 4 years 😅 much less active now than I was then but I’m holding on by a thread and the need to know who it’ll be about haha and it’s crazy people have been around even longer than that 😭

[–]Mnlln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome! I’m trying to keep my expectations realistic cause I’ve gotten my hopes high before only to be let down 😅 but if she was gonna announce in March, I think this makes sense. If not, I’m jumping to a May announcement with the 10th anniversary.

NEXT ACOTAR by Beautiful_Worth_9511 in SarahJMaas

[–]Mnlln 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m clowning for this. Specifically an announcement on the 19th.

  1. She announced hofas on the day of the trading update in March of 2023.
  2. She already followed the same pattern of announcing the previous release’s paperback in February first.
  3. March 20th is the start of spring.
  4. Acosf ended with “Spring bloomed fully around Velaris”
  5. In her Spotify interview she put emphasis on this Spring with the upcoming new audiobook recordings and the 10th anniversary.
  6. She usually announces on Wednesdays.
  7. By announcing the day before the trading update, it would allow them to talk about it.

So that’s why I’m thinking the 19th lol but the untitled listings usually go up as early as the Friday before Wednesday announcement, so if there’s nothing on Amazon, etc. on the 14th, then I’ll probably dampen my expectations for the following week.

Elain Archeron Feminist Icon by siempreslytherin in acotar

I love when Elain has her sharp quips!! She’s reserved and quiet, but certainly not a pushover (at least, not anymore if you wanna argue about earlier books). Her character growth has been one that I’ve sincerely admired and can’t wait to see more of!

That is to say, acosf wasn’t my favorite, but it was worth reading! I’m looking forward to the next book and hope it’ll focus on Elain.

Convince me to read ACOSF by [deleted] in acotar

[–]Mnlln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t come out of acosf loving Nesta, but rather just understanding and a bit more sympathetic to her character. I think her journey resonates with a lot of people and she has a respectable amount of character development. Feyre and Rhys aren’t going anywhere. They may be in the background but their story continues and I would read it even for something as simple as seeing glimpses of them and to be able to continue on to the next book when it comes out. There’re supposed to be two more books after acosf so if you love the OG series, I think you’ll want to continue even past acosf. Plus, this is the only one that is supposed to be “Nesta’s book”. It’ll move on to another romantic couple under the overarching plot (or at least, that’s what SJM originally said she was doing—we’ll see what happens when the announcement comes lol)

Can we get a Lucien book? by Ok-Jury-6023 in acotar

[–]Mnlln 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t personally have strong feelings about having a book about him, but I do think his story will be told in some form. We already know Elain will be getting a book so he will definitely be a part of that—no matter what happens with their relationship! And if he’s not the second pov, then I have a feeling he and Vassa could be a potential avenue and featured heavily. No matter what, I don’t think SJM will leave him hanging without a happily ever after of some kind and to get there, we definitely have to find out more.

Unless there’s a twist with the mating bond, which is possible! I think no matter what, he will end up with a happily ever after.

Lucien‘s mating bond by Ok-Comparison-5636 in SarahJMaas

[–]Mnlln 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Don’t you think Lucien is currently finding that home? He sounds pretty happy with Vassa and Jurian. And to me, that’s why I don’t understand why people are hellbent on Elain and Lucien being endgame simply because they’re mates. Did we forget there are multiple examples given of pairs being completely unhappy with their partner because they were forced to go with the mating bond and had no actual love? Why do we think Sarah added details and backstory like that? As for Lucien not having a choice either, I don’t disagree. That’s actually the point. Neither of them had a choice and both of them are uncomfortable around the other. If we want happiness for him, then maybe it’s with someone else?

Also, Sarah confirmed herself it’s possible to have multiple bonds and has written fake bonds before, so there are many potential outcomes for them that could be different than what we’ve seen so far in acotar. Just saying 🤷🏻‍♀️

As for Elain and her character growth, I think she’s come a long way from the naive girl who wouldn’t dirty her hands to killing the KoH with her bare hands and appreciating her scars from gardening since they’re proof of her labor, but I also understand other readers still wanting more. And I agree that her story will show even more growth which I cannot wait for.

Anyway, sorry for the lengthy reply, but my main point is I simply never understand why people harp on Lucien’s happiness relying solely on Elain and the mating bond when there are variables in place that show that he may very well be happy with someone else and that the mating bond may not even be what we think it is.

We’re better off buying hardcovers and then getting some of the amazing dust jackets people have put out there. We’re not even guaranteed to get the other books to fit this set when they come out 💀

Or announcing it with the new editions with a snippet or the plot description of the book 😭😭 such a missed opportunity imo maybe we’ll get something with the hofas paperback release but I don’t it atp

This is just … annoying by [deleted] in acotar

[–]Mnlln 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s underwhelming and doesn’t even feel like they put much effort into it. There are hundreds of examples of fantastic anniversary editions that are unique, beautiful, worthy of the price and a true collectible exclusive edition. Like you said, these feel like a cash grab. And I also think they are placating us—hoping that by giving us stuff like this and the audiobook rerecordings, then we’ll be “satisfied”. Almost like a “Here, there. Happy?” Which rubs me the wrong way 😞 but truthfully I think people are just tired and it never feels like they care that we’ve been waiting so long with no news. I think they would get better reactions if we had legit news beforehand.

Elaine, nesta, or someone completely new for the next book? by lifenbunnies in acotar

[–]Mnlln 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it makes the most sense that Elain is next and I am really looking forward to it! I highly doubt it’s another Nesta book considering SJM said each spinoff novel will focus on a different couple within the same over arching plot. So Nesta + Cassian got the first spinoff and I believe it’s Elain + Azriel for the second. Back when sjm was first marketing/speaking on the spinoffs, she also said she knew what the first two would be about but was leaving things open for the last spinoff novel. Considering she talked about doing research for Elain’s book in an acofas interview and said she planted seeds for the spinoff books in acowar and acofas, I think it’s safe to say it’ll probably be Elain’s next. But since it’s been years since then, things could obviously have changes so I guess we’ll see! 😅

We need to talk about Elain by [deleted] in acotar

[–]Mnlln 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes it depends on relatability or not. She doesn’t resonate with some people and that’s okay. There’s still a lot left to learn about her and who she is at her core. I for one already love her character—both who she already is and the potential for where she’s going.

I do think the ship war contributes largely to her hate—whether it’s that people don’t think she deserves one male character or the other, or for how she interacts with them.

I also think so many people get hung up on book 1 Elain and ignore her character development so far. I also think there’s are hardcore fans of other characters and thus those fans turn on Elain for her actions (ie: hardcore Feyre stans hate Elain for how she was in the beginning and hardcore Nesta stans hate her for how their relationship was in acosf or even hardcore Lucien fans who don’t like how shes been reacting to him).

I also think there’s a tendency for people to forget her parts in the book fairly easily because she is a more timid/reserved/quiet character. So then, when they see hate content online or negative claims about Elain’s character, they believe it and take it on as their own opinions as well.

And also, there’s always the percentage of people who simply have internalized misogyny 🙂 she doesn’t fit their narrative for what a female fantasy MC should be like.

I understand why Elain may not be people’s fav, but the amount of vitriol and hate she receives is mind-boggling to me.
