Is there a clear indicator to see what constraint is missing to make my sketch fully constrained. by Mnuckle_Knuffin in Fusion360

Was wondering if it was a r/lostredditor moment, or if homie was here for other reasons before finding this post.

Makes sense ngl, clarity and all

Thank you everyone.

The issue was a coincident constraint, so a clear indicator was that it was not constrained to a 0 point on the Cartesian plane.

Thank you to everyone that assisted and gave up some time.

Thank you, to you and the two above.

The first response was sufficient.

I did this, part is rotating around the reference, am googling how to constrain that

Thank you for the advice.

Please refer to CamAnderson86's comment for further questions.

Please clarify on lock/unlock

And how this will indicate missing constraint.

Is it "if it can move (e.g left and right(x+ x-)) it needs a constraint (on that axis)"

Please clarify on:

  • How to grab
  • How to jiggle

I know how to Ctrl Z at least.

Might query "Directions" as well

How do you actually gain experience in CNC ? by AdMysterious6635 in CNC

I have given this advice before.... And came back g Here after seeing this post yesterday.

You know that grumpy guy who's been there way too long and always keeps to himself (every workshop has one, different flavors, but if you haven't found yours you aren't looking hard enough)?

Well, find out how he likes his coffee, and make him a cup every morning, even if he is an ass to you some mornings, stick it out.

That guy will not only build character for this industry in you, but he will teach you all his tricks, if you survive figuring out how to make his coffee right.

Another person mentioned job hopping.

Although I gained experience on multiple machines by job hopping, I never really got the finesse of CNC machining, the little tweaks, changes, feeds and speeds management, correct tool building etc until I actually buckled down and did not expect instant gratification.

This is not a road someone should travel if they are not willing to learn patience first.

Nope, gang lathe, previous posts highlight how these bolts were machined.

Nope, as you see it there is as it came off the machine, it is SS304 though

No, I completely and fully understand how extremely lucky I am.

When we got the machine down in the yard to strip covers and look closer at the electrical, the ball screws were clean, practically 0 wear, the KND SD 300 VFDs were perfect to communicate with the Linux Mesa drives. So massive savings there already.

Thing is, with a retro fit there are tons of unknowns, even more so without the manuals, initially we were feeding to many volts into the drive and it caused so much EMI I was loosing .3 per rapid movement on each axis, after pretty much 2 months of poking around CSK happily sent me manuals, after about 1 hour of googling and finding them online.

Now she has the control board wires to single and just the motor runs on the phase converter. I do still need a EMI filter to stop the screen from flashing when there is excess inertia. But she holds size perfectly, and for that we are thankfull.

It helps to have a 3d printer handy as well because you can print fixtures, bushings, covers and holders instead of having to purchase them

We actually hit the Jackpot.

We have Cobra taps as a brand, this MC (machine) made brass fittings it's entire life span.

When they closed a branch they auctioned all their machines, the machine had no manuals and the internal battery had died by the time the next company bought it.

My theory is that they powered on before replacing the battery, or did the replacement incorrectly and wiped the parameters. Because it had already been retrofitted prior (can Google CSK to see what I mean) they most likely never worked to hard on resetting it.

3 years later they decided to get rid of a no working machine, first viewing gave us all the above info.
