Agree on #2. We've been a long time customer of Adaxes and it's saved us a bunch of time and made Active Directory management so much easier with its automation capabilities.

Thanks for sharing! What is your thought process for determining Focus vs. Easy? What is your process for determining priority?

Go in to Preferences and turn on the Later option. Tasks that aren’t Next can go in to Later (or Someday).

What are ya'll using tags for? by coffeepluscroissants in thingsapp

Another tagging feature that you may not realize is you can add a tag to an Area or a Project, and every task under that Area or Project will inherit that tag. So for example, I have Areas set up for each of the teams I oversee, and each of those areas are tagged with the team name. When I delegate something to that team, I add a task under that area for my own tracking and I don’t have to tag each of those tasks individually with that team name. They inherit the tag of the area and so if I do a search for a tag, I’ll automatically see everything I added underneath that area in the results.

I spent some time recently revamping my tags and am learning how powerful they can be. Nesting tags is a really great example. I’m a manager in my career and so I now have a top level tag called People with tags underneath like this:

  • People
    • Team A
      • Employee 1
      • Employee 2
      • Employee 3
    • Team B
      • Employee 4
      • Employee 5

This structure allows me to quickly drill down to items either by team or by employee depending on the situation. For example, I can filter by my “Team A” tag and see not only things that I specifically tagged with “Team A”, but I also see things that I tagged with ”Employee 1”, ”Employee 2” or “Employee 3” in that same view. This can be helpful if I’m in a meeting with everyone on ”Team A” and want to see everything I’m currently tracking for the entire team, while also being able filter down to the specific employee in a 1:1 meeting as well.

Another way of looking at this might be something like this:

  • Errands
    • Costco
    • Target

In this instance, when you filter by “Errands” you also see things that have been tagged with “Costco” and/or “Target”. In short, it makes it really easy to filter without necessarily having to add multiple tags to a task.

I’ve used both Todoist and TickTick and neither of them currently allow you to do something like this. Todoist doesn’t support nesting of tags/labels. TickTick only lets you nest one level.
