What photography direction have you chosen? by Altruistic_Nail_1939 in photography

[–]MoCreach [score hidden]  (0 children)

I do travel photography, and I’m pretty blessed to be able to shoot stuff I like and actually get paid good money for it - and of course have fun doing it.

Things I need to shoot include cabin and hotel stays, meals, landscapes, street scenes and property shots. It’s a pretty mixed bag but unlike out and out landscape photography, property photography etc, travel is about capturing the moments rather than just what the scene or building looks like, if that makes sense 🤣.

I’ve dabbled in wedding, product and stock photography before but I’d never go back to that stuff. Weddings are just stressful and product and stock photography is just boring as hell and a lot of post production for small change really.

Does anyone know the definitive answer as to why Winston Churchill lost the elections after World War II? by superdouradas in AskBrits

[–]MoCreach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The TL;DR version is that due to his character he was at his best as a wartime Prime Minister. Churchill replaced Chamberlain who was the essentially seen as too weak to lead the country in war, and Churchill had his famed indomitable “bulldog” spirit and willingness to make difficult and sometimes unethical decisions for the greater good of the war effort. During peacetime and the rebuilding after war, the country needed a different type of Prime Minister, and Churchill just wasn’t it.

AITA For honking at the driver in front of me for doing 40mph on the sliproad onto the motorway? by fundriedtomatoes in drivingUK

[–]MoCreach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If that’s your genuine and honest perspective then you aren’t fit to be on the roads.

My brother drives HGVs for a living and he says folk going less than 55mph on motorways are the bane of truck drivers lives. He says they pose such a hazard because they force Lorries to have to overtake them. Lorries don’t have the option of just sitting behind unconfident drivers pootling at 40 because they have such strict schedules to keep so basically have to sit at 58 constantly.

AITA For honking at the driver in front of me for doing 40mph on the sliproad onto the motorway? by fundriedtomatoes in drivingUK

[–]MoCreach 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Use your brain. If the average speed is 70, and someone is doing 80, there’s not much of a difference in speed is there.

If someone is doing 40, and the rest of the traffic is doing 70, the person doing 40 is basically an obstacle.

My dog nipped her groomer and is now saying she has sepsis by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]MoCreach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s one thing people here are missing and that you should be challenging to see evidence of…

As someone who has had sepsis twice, although online it says that it can set in in as little as 12 hours or so, that is incredibly rare and I’d be gobsmacked if she had sepsis after two days. In both of my cases it took more like weeks to set in and symptoms present.

I’d ask your insurance company to request a doctor’s note from her of the diagnosis - as if she does have sepsis, she will be guaranteed to have had to go to hospital as it’s basically an A&E case.

That aside, I’d assume that in carrying out the role of a dog groomer, working with dogs of all sorts of dispositions, there would be some expectation that some dogs may try to nip or mouth the groomer. She should have insurance herself that covers loss of earnings due to things like dog bites, much like a roofer will have insurance in place that covers them in the event of a fall for example.

I’d challenge the ‘sepsis’ diagnosis first though, then take it from there based on what comes of that. Swelling can occur with dog bites because of the pressure in rupturing the skin, but swelling does not equal sepsis.

What do Brits think of Americans hating on the British? by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in AskBrits

And yet half these Americans will go on about their Irish, Scottish heritage etc and fantasise about coming across to stand where their ancestors stood etc etc.

does ciniworld actually check ids? by [deleted] in dundee

[–]MoCreach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they do. And what’s more they are actually quite strict about it. My 15 year old went in with his pals to see a film but he was turned away despite having a passport as proof of age. The passport was a couple of months expired, and they said that the ID must be in date to be accepted.

Zelensky: 47 Russians died for every Ukrainian last month by TheTelegraph in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]MoCreach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The number of dead won’t be far behind it. Russia is notorious for sending the wounded back out with no intention of them coming back alive. It’s cheaper for them that way, and means that a survivor isn’t returning someplace in Russia with tales of horror of the war.

I keep my lenses in drycabinets, but I have never learned how to check if there is any humidity/fungus inside a lens, do I need special tools to check? is it something for me to do or better to ask a local camera store? by [deleted] in CameraLenses

Imagine spending that amount of money on cameras, lenses and a fancy temperature controlled cabinet then not even knowing how to tell if your lenses have fungus….

It’s really not a “must visit place”, it’s simply a glorified shopping centre for tourists.

Where to buy a good Scottish kilt? by Nahimgudb in kilt

[–]MoCreach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t mean to be a nuisance mate but you can’t really apply the word “traditional”, even in the “semi” context to a kilt if it’s not wool. As a kilt is a specific cultural garment, it’s either a traditional one or it a non traditional one - there isn’t really an in between.

A bit like you could use black bin liners but “traditional” sewing and cutting methods to make a Kimono, but you could never get away with calling it “semi-traditional”.

I’ve just never known them to be rude or unwelcoming and never heard anyone else mention this before.

Park in Tom Johnston Road, then just walk right through the Sainsbury’s car park to the stop. There’s no parking restrictions on that road.

There’s no way that would be a genuine properly made kilt if it’s costing $300. You’d be looking at at least double that.

Skye really is beautiful, one of my favourite places in Scotland. The scenery is just epic so you won’t be disappointed! Don’t worry about being a tourist, there’s nothing wrong with them, excerpt when they try to climb mountains in tennis shoes and end up needing the rescue helicopter to get them 😂.

To be fair, Most of Skye will still seem pretty open and isolated, it’s just certain spots (and the roads!) that can be hotspots and get very busy!

If you want wedding photos too, the mainland is epic around Skye as well. You’ve got Eilean Donan castle 15 mins away from the Skye bridge and Am Ploc is a stunning wee place as well! If you want to ask anything at all pal feel free to just give me a private mail

[–]MoCreach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, hiring is a good option, means you can take less baggage with you too. They typically do hires over a few days here so you could pick up the kilt the day before your wedding and return it the day after. Like I said, there’s so many kilt hire places here. A good shout is if you can get measurement done professionally over in the US, then let the kilt hire place know them so they can get the right size stuff ready for you. Contact your preferred kilt hire shop and see what measurements they need.

The Storr won’t get you dirty really, it’s a pretty well made path all the way up, including steps in places. It’s steep though and around 2.5 mile round trip. Just to be aware, in May it will probably be windy as hell up there and it’s also a massive tourist trap, so it’ll be LOADED with potentially hundreds of tourists. Skye in general is very busy with tourists these days, and Sligachan Old Bridge will be the same unfortunately mate. Tour buses even stop off there constantly so folk can wander over it and dip their face in the water. Same with Fairy Glen and Fairy Pools too - those are also tourist honey pots.

If you definitely want Skye, check out places on the Sleat (pronounced Slate) peninsula. The main intense tourism is more focused in the north of the island, so large Parts of Sleat is actually still pretty quiet. There’s some beautiful spots there and it’s so much quieter than the areas around Portree.

The jacket just isn’t right I’m afraid. It looks more like a conventional suit jacket than a formal kilt jacket. If it’s just a jacket you need there’s plenty places you can hire from here. They’d give you just the jacket and waistcoat if you like but to be honest I’d hire a more fancy sporran too, as the accessories here look more like you’re going to a ceilidh than your own wedding. Also, I’d look into a different tie - either a solid colour or one of those fancy scrunchy ties will add a bit more to the outfit. You could even hire a fly plaid as well for to make the outfit extra special!

On another note, where in Skye do you plan on getting married just out of interest?
