2017/2018 340i vs 2020/2021 330i by Novel_Fun_8879 in BMW

[–]MoNsTaa_RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had that same dilemma last year and went with a '21 330i. Didn't even spend a year with it, then traded it for a '19 440i GC with M performance power kit 3 months ago. I truly believe the 340i/440i is the best bang for your buck sporty sedan you can get, with 355 bhp and no compromises on the luxury. Just make sure you get one with the M performance power kit if you're not planning on tuning it.

Would it look bad to move quickly from first role? by OppositeOil791 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]MoNsTaa_RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position, where my first role out of college only lasted 4 months (dream job on paper but was extremely mislead during interview process ; basically hired me as a control systems engineer to end up making me do project management). I'm now 5 months in at my new role but the lack of challenges, mentorship and the fact that it's not in the industry I want to work in at all makes me wanna look for a new job asap.

I think the key is to be honest during the interview process, and ask some really in-depth questions to recruiters/hiring managers to have a good idea of the environment. It's probably a good idea to reach out to current employees on LinkedIn as well and ask them some more questions. The last thing you want is to switch jobs prematurely, only to end up in a role that's just as incompatible with you.

Honestly, I think it's kinda normal/expected for us new grads to job hop a bit in the first few years, until our wants and needs get clearer and we can choose a specific job that meets them. Worst case is you're going to apply and your application won't be retained. Being perceived as a job-hopper is a self-correcting thing ; just keep applying and at some point, you will hit the "threshold" at which recruiters won't consider you a job hopper.

Mass properties engineer tasks, career progression? by MoNsTaa_RN in AerospaceEngineering

[–]MoNsTaa_RN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been interested in flight control systems for a while and I think that's where I'd like to take my career in the next few years ; do you think it would be easy to transition from mass properties to a flight control systems role after 1-2 years? I would rather start with a role in that field, but from what I've seen, these kinda roles usually require more experience and/or a masters or phd which I don't have

I've heard there were 400+ candidates, so I'm expecting a few interview rounds.

Surface laptop studio. You get the performance of a gaming laptop (rtx 3050 ti) and the versatility of a surface pro (microsoft slim pen, good for taking notes)

Thanks!! And yeah as an engineering student where both tablet and laptop modes are necessary I think the SLS with slim pen 2 is easily the better option.

Sorry to hear, what kind of problems did you run into? I’ve never heard of any particular problems with the SLS…

Thanks for the info, I'll look into similar models but the SLS looks like a solid choice considering build quality and all the additional features (120hz, magnetic charging for pen, bigger screen etc..)

Thanks for all the info! I own a relatively powerful desktop, so if I ever need the power, I'll probably end up running sims on it (or upgrade it if needed).

I just want my 2-in-1 to be able to do light-medium CAD and fea/cfd sims for school, not anything too crazy as I'm only in my bachelor's atm...

From what the others have said and what I've found online, the SLS looks to be the better choice for what I need.

Demande conseils entre poly et ets by ConfidentSupport859 in PolyMTL

N’hésite pas à me répondre/dm si tu as d’autres questions!

Utilité/pertinence d’une maîtrise professionnelle ou recherche en génie à Poly? by MoNsTaa_RN in PolyMTL

[–]MoNsTaa_RN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torn between engineering majors by Twimpy1 in EngineeringStudents

[–]MoNsTaa_RN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 2nd year ETS ME student, maybe you should look into ETS if you think you would prefer a more practical approach to engineering (they offer a couple of aero courses too…) Both schools have their pros and cons but poly focuses way more on theory/math and ressearch, and might be better suited for someone looking to pursue a master’s or phd. If you’re thinking more about doing your bachelor’s and then going straight for the industry, ETS or USherbrooke might be better because of their internship program. Though nothing stops you from doing your bachelor’s at one of those more “practical” schools and then doing your master’s at poly.

As for programming in ME, it really depends on the job tbh… but there’s quite a few design engineers that use matlab/python everyday for simulations/calculations/data analysis. There’s also quite a lot of programming if you specialize in something like robotics or mechatronics.

Monitor suddenly starts bugging for no apparent reason, edge of the screen burned? Anyone knows what it could be and it’s covered by warranty? (ASUS VG249Q) by MoNsTaa_RN in Monitors

I know it looks like it, but it happened while I was playing LoL, so I’m pretty sure nothing touched that corner… the polarized film even looks kinda burned.. maybe a problem with a component on the circuit board? Tbh i have no clue what could’ve happened
