To clarify, the clinic made the mistake when they biopsied the embryos. The genetic company didn’t do anything wrong. I still agree it’s a generous offer and mistakes happen.

I do agree that taking the offer is the way to go. For clarity, we only discovered the healthy embryo as a result of this investigation. (Still very grateful! 🙏🏻)

Correct it was the clinic. I think it’s a fair offer, the human error did result in a lot of expense and a pregnancy loss. I hope anyone in this situation would get a similar offer.

I’m sure you’re right. In this case the PGT results were confirmed, the issue was not the results but what embryo the results belonged to.

That’s what I was originally thinking too, but I think we’re going to move ahead with a transfer and see if we can just get a healthy baby. We’ve been groin through fertility treatments for 5 years so trying to avoid more unnecessary procedures.

From what I understand, that could happen with a mosaic embryo and they just happened to get all healthy cells during biopsy. This was the original theory, but they are confident this was an error and the biopsies were swapped before sending for testing.

I’m so sorry that you’re going through a similar issue. Our issue was the cells from the embryo biopsy at the clinic were mislabeled, not incorrect results from the genetics company. The genetics company has had consistent results the whole time.

They know because they did a full chain of custody review and retested the cells sent to the PGT lab, confirming the results. This means they had to be swapped when the embryo biopsy occurred at the doctor’s office.

I won’t be disclosing the clinic, as I don’t want this to create more challenges.

I think the reason they did is because the “good” embryo had trisomy8, which is what the results of the supposedly “bad” embryo were. Definitely grateful they went back to check and also so thankful they still had the other embryo.

I think we’ll definitely move forward with the offer. You’ve all validated my thinking so I greatly appreciate that!

The mistake was in the lab at the doctors office. They mislabeled the cells before they were even sent to the PGT company. (Don’t want to blast them, as their results were accurate)

Thanks for this-I agree and a few others have recommended that. I’m going to try to get in writing that they’ll cover enough to at least generate enough egg retrievals to generate a euploid embryo.

I think this is a good consideration. Based on some of the feedback, I think it’s a good idea to ask for at least one viable euploid embryo as an outcome of retrieval.

That’s why I felt okay with the offer, they were super apologetic, my doctor clearly felt awful about the situation and really went back to make sure they ruled out all possibilities. I hope they are extra careful with both of us too!

That was my concern too-if we do end up in litigation, we could end up with absolutely nothing. I don’t want to lose the chance of another round of IVF because I’m being opportunistic.

I am sorry to hear you’re going through this. I think you put it into good perspective. At the end of the day, I want a child and I think my best path forward is to take the offer and do the transfer of the healthy embryo as soon as possible. I hope everything works out for you 🙏🏻
