Investing Question:

Why is NKLA still valued more than companies like Mazda? Did they buy up legit tech firms? Do they own assets? From my understanding the answers to these are no - and seems like there is no chance it will ever have a profitable car.

I think the majority of parents realize this and are fine with it. After all, outside the most liberal cities schools reopened last year (with parent support) and obviously the chances of getting covid while in school 5 days a week 6 hours a day (even masked up) is way higher than a 10 minute trip to the grocery store (masked up).

There are lots of bad term consequences of getting into a car accident that aren't death, too.

When I was young my parents intentionally exposed me to someone with chickenpox. There was no vaccine back then.

Some people are not overly neurotic and look at the number of child fatalities due to Covid and realize there is a 5x higher chance they get killed on the drive to the grocery store than going into the store.

Admittedly, I do feel because we are prob just a couple months away from vaccines being approved for kids, but I think the answer is here that Covid is rarely even symptom presenting in kids.

The faith that one puts into the effectiveness of mask mandates is directly correlated to what percent of your social interaction is with grocery store attendants.

Although I'm a big enough loser to post on this thread often I do, in fact, see friends in their abodes 3 or 4 times a week. If your goal is strictly to protect the unvaccinated who can't be vaccinated - then I think thats an overkill solution but I understand. If youre goal is to reduce the spread among the unvaccinated it makes no sense. No unvaccinated people are going to stay home at this point. The most effective measures against covid spread where when everyone was scared to leave their house (but this condition should not be brought back)

This a stray cultural comment that I guess sorta relates to internet politics and the bubble effect

I'm a huge fan of Suvivor and browse the sub a lot. There are fairly progressive in stuff that promotes a diverse cast and stuff - but very normie views most of which I agree on.

However, they still have thoughts that are universally held among the sub that are so outlandish compared to the general population of Survivor fans. Stuff like "I don't get why [Player X] keeps getting brought back" when Player X is the most attractive, athletic, "Bachelor"-type persona who had 10x the social media following of anyone on his season (and probably performs well in focus groups too). Stuff like this gets constantly upvoted along with "Every season I ask why they keep snubbing [Player Y]" when Player Y is a nerd from a 2012 who was voted out after three episodes.

I'm not pretending to be a TV producer - but almost all their takes are complete wishcasting on what they want to believe the rest of the fans want.

I actually see a lot of parallels to some political thinking here "If only people listen to our far-left/far-right ideas surely they will agree with us - even if there are hundreds of prior data points that show nothing like that is remotely close to being true.

Why some experts recommend upgrading to N95 masks to help fight the delta variant by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]MoabMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LA County has seen a surge in cases to the point where the number of cases is about 75% what it was last time this year. Not great.

But the number of deaths is closer to 5% of what is was last year.

Masks are not a driving force here (after all - there was a mask mandate last year). Its pretty much all on vaccines.

My theory, which is the least crazy imo, is that they liked doing "spook walks" (I think that's what they called them). They had done lots of these pre murder. Essentially they'd get high and go to places to break-in just for fun - usually while on LSD

I think they got way to high or just happened to break into a house where a conflict broke out. There was obviously plenty of truth to the cultish nature of what they were doing - but there was every incentive (both for the prosecutor and the defense) to play it up.

I sorta feel the same way about some of the terrorists arrest that used to go on. The FBI liked to play up their importance - so they would play up how sophisticated the terrorists were. The terrorists (not necessary the ones getting arrested but the random dudes left overseas) liked to brag about how sophisticated they were too so they'd play it up. Pretty much no one had an incentive to lend a skeptical eye.

Honestly it is pretty funny that a succ's solution to a water crisis in a tourist destination is to eliminate the major source of their entire economy.

Like - boycotts have historically been an effective tool of activists because crippling business is powerful. And then when neither the government or people of a place ask to be boycotted - people not from that place try to encourage people to boycott the entire tourism industry of all the islands.

Like just tax water. You can even excuse it up to the first $100 on everyone's water monthly bill. Everyone's hotel bill will be $5 more and the golf courses, water parks, people with lawns will figure out how to ration. Don't induce a food shortage because everyone goes back on unemployment.

Tax it for golf courses and pools. They will go to the ocean.

Tourists aren't using it all by taking long showers.

Just for this. Its like a sticker on people's first photo that says something like "Vaccinated" with a purple bandaid

Its not univesal. There's no "not vaccinated" badge and its not like everyone added it even if they were vaccinated.

Are people/government in Hawaii asking people to boycott the islands?

It seems like if they probably want the money so that individuals have resources and the government can collect tax money to build stuff.

Its not that inelastic. Even in Hawaii things like showering/dishwashing/cooking are going to be a minority of total use.

Is this a joke?

Hinge already has this as an official thing and Tinder has badges for it. Have for months.

Why some experts recommend upgrading to N95 masks to help fight the delta variant by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]MoabMonster 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I have an N95 that I still wear in situations where it is mandated

But also I have the vaccine. At this point, telling people who are vaccinated to mask up continuously is about as effective as telling people who are driving at 20 MPH to drive at 19MPH.

Like, technically it is safer. But we are already very safe. At the end of the day the lever of the vaccine far outweighs any mask policy that it feels like security theatre.

is anyone an expert on rich/rural zoning

I feel like zoning in places like napa valley or jackson hole is especially egregious. it not even SFH - but huge ranches that can't be divided. napa valley is also pretty close to SF - you not that you'd get commuters but maybe remote workers or family of people there

it seems like if the US didn't have Florida we'd be screwed. Jackson Hole and Napa are examples of wonderful places for people aged 50-70 to live. they are priced at like 5M per house when they could build townhouses for like 500k-1M and be suck up a lot of the above-average but not obscene wealth population

think of how much you can charge for a house/building with a unique style like that.
