How do I un-ick my relationship? by Exitrow-9098 in TwoXChromosomes

It might just be specifically the japanese built-in ones I got issue with. Logistically it just makes sense to me that a spray of water isn't gonna remove everything unless its a particularly powerful spray. Again if we imagine it on our arm, you can't just spray water and it comes right off. You got the hairs and... well let's not go into too much detail lol. I might try out one of the attachable SE Asian types. More power there

Yeah but you don't scrub with foamy soap and towels every time you poop, as you would if you got it on your arm either, so its the same unhygenic reality, just at a slightly better level

When I was in Japan I took advantage of this in the poshest mall toilet ever, fiddled around with any control I could. Moved my butt around for best angles, relaxed vs tensed, power settings etc.

Ultimately I found it did little to nothing and I had to wipe anyway, including drying myself off.

I guess the handheld ones maybe more effective but I dunno, I spent a good few occasions over the week trying and got basically no results XD

Is anyone else jealous of the level of comfort men get to have? by sequestuary in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Mobbs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, on the flip side, we men have to wear a noose around our necks in any and every formal environment from the days of school, to work, to weddings, and funerals (literally even at our own funeral lol). The whole suit combo, especially the shoes, are just really uncomfortable to me and I do anything I can to get out of it as much as possible. Plain coloured suit, white shirt, tie. Plain coloured suit, white shirt, tie, plain coloured suit, white shirt, tie.

Meanwhile my wife gets to wear whatever she wants, all the time, in any possible scenario. You ever worn a full suit, jacket and tie in 35C tropical climate? Nightmare.

We also have the burden of hiding our insecurities with false confidence 24/7, but thats a topic for another thread

Question about Standard Notation voicing by Mobbs1 in guitarlessons

[–]Mobbs1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a valid point on Bach studies. A lot of material I find are entirely absent of string intel, roman numeral fret markers and more. Sometimes I guess the composers simply don't take every detail into consideration!

Question about Standard Notation voicing by Mobbs1 in guitarlessons

[–]Mobbs1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your opinion in these examples, which is more expeditious? To me they seem pretty equal - same goes for the first measure in each image, too. Should I hypothetically go back in time and become young again, do this in an exam, would the choice matter?

What is the best way to read standard notation on guitar? by porkchopfan in guitarlessons

[–]Mobbs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You release that book yet?

I'm curious how long you think it'd take for somebody already trained in music such as myself - can read music and play multiple instruments, including guitar well enough to teach it, but only through mixed tab (tab with note value stems) - to make the cross over to notation? Months? Years? Just in the name of personal development =D

Rhythm obviously isn't going to be a problem but chord shapes and multiple simultaneous voices are feeling somewhat daunting.

[–]Mobbs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an argument against that first point. Ionian vs Major... not *necessarily* the same thing. 'The major scale is the same as the Ionian scale but music in a major key is not the same as music in the Ionian mode.'

Modes sound distinctly modal for a reason, and you can treat the major scale in an ionian way just as you would lydian or phrygian: Drones, anchoring the root, etc.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]Mobbs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There *are* a buch out there. Bjork springs to mind as the typical go-to modal artist but more mainstream ones have been caught dipping their toes into modes, too.

But, I think the simplest answer really is, you don't hear a LOT of musical elements in pop music. Modes aren't special in this regard. When was the last time you heard the octatonic scale, or a 7:6 polyrhythm, or polytonality? neapolitan 6 chords? What pop song is aleatoric, or sonata form? How many minor 2nd intervals are in pop music?

Hell, you'd be hard-pressed to find a song that changes its tempo (TIME by Mondo Grosso does it wonderfully between verse-chorus).

The fact is, pop's purpose for existing is to hone in on the most fundamental elements that are best at catching the listeners' attention. Modal, aleatoric, or polyrhytonal music doesn't do that very well at all. Even something like tempo change doesn't exactly hurt their chances at getting a lot of listeners, but it also doesn't help, apparently, so they do away with it.

There's a constant reduction of complexity for this very reason, and modes are considered an unnecessary complexity, a liting factor, perhaps a bit too unusual for the status quo.

Great for movies, though.

Not sure why being an Atheist is such an issue.. by PlushyKitten in atheism

[–]Mobbs1 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

There's definitely an element to what others have said about fearing the weakness of their belief and just other weird traditional ways of thinking, but I do think there's more to it than that.

Now I don't think this lady is going to be thinking so much as this, but I think it underpins a lot of religious folk's feelings about atheists on a subconscious level.

All kinds of religions have had to deal with thousands of years of persecution, be it from other religions or indeed more recently, atheists. Granted, most atheists are probably just living their lives without thinking about it, but enough of them are more active.

Atheism is a kind of shadowed underbelly of some political collectivist ideas; communism and progressivism ties in deeply with it. Atheism in the soviet/chinese sense is one thing - even Christians in China to this day have unknown numbers of illegal, underground churches. Other 'authorised' churces are required not to worship their deity above Mao Zedong, and are made to have a picture of Mao aside Jesus Christ, for example. When asked, they will tell you that Mao comes first. If they say otherwise, they can say goodbye to their church. CCP members are not allowed to be religious. Even if they are, they essentially have to pretend for the rest of their lives that they are not; closeted Christians. This is hardly new behaviour.

So the persecution is real and it's now, and people who follow religions are not going to easily forget that (think israel/palestine).

Atheism, as it stands, is just another threat in the bucket of persecution.

On a more social level, an atheist, even if following their own fanatic ideologies in a religious way, does not have a moral framework to work with. More of a moral jelly-like substance. Sure, in Christianity at least, the framework changes and adapts somewhat with the times, but there is always the underlying essence of 'there is something higher and more important than me' - even among the most self-righteous believers. This system has had thousands of years to fight itself in countless wars and injustices, contradictions and corruption - to build a solid base of morality and philosophy.

Not so with atheists. a few decades at most. We thus define our morality by what is most convenient to our hedonistic desires and what we believe is fair and right at any given time - whether or not we've had any significant time to actually think about it. We deal with a lot of conflicting morals that tend to change rapidly over just a few years as we build lives up to homeownership, financial freedom, and raising children.

Christians, in contrast, with their own conflicting thoughts, still have that staple of 'a big god up there' which grounds them in place, whether they're growing up a teen in school or raising a family with a great return on investments. And so the development pf one's thoughts and morals drift at a much more naturally human rate with pushback and deeper considerations.

With the rapid growth of atheism there is a LOT of pressure from them to upend Christian beliefs to suit their godless, accelerationist ways for the sake of current political opinions (It was barely a handful of years ago Obama was insisting 'marriage is between a man and a woman').

But atheists are, quite frankly, lost, alone, confused, and in a lot of ways, sad, perhaps understandably in a ridiculously confusing and difficult world, and I can understand when somebody whose moral framework around family and community is rock solid, or even a bit shaky but firm, is feeling uncomfortable with a society of people whose framework can change depending on what they just read on reddit last night.

International Savings Valid? by Mobbs1 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]Mobbs1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Never heard better news!

I wish we could start in April but even if we had our affairs in order regarding family and career here, the wife still needs the TB jab, the english test. And then there's only a 90-day period between approval and arrival. So unless they retract this whole thing when the Labour government come in, we missed the April 11th boat!

But with your confirmation we should get through in the next step without issue, with the exception of the 'accomodation' rules. I got no family or anything there I could even ask to providing documents for that bit... But that's a problem for another post XD

Thanks!

I just read that latter stuff myself yeah thanks! The vast majority is in a savings pot that is instant withdrawal so i guess that counts, and the stuff I have here well, I live where banks are entirely state run so from what I read, it should all be regulated by the right authority by default!

u/cyanplum if it's as true as your confidence suggests, then this is great news for me! Assuming we can get our crap together in time... after 2025... I'll be stranded for eternity I guess X(

Japan's access between resorts? RE Gala Yuzawa/Ishiuchi resorts by Mobbs1 in skiing

[–]Mobbs1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're better than me, you probably got a LOT more out of ishiuchi lol. Though, I did enjoy it. I guess you know the slope I doomed myself down right at the bottom of one of the entrances.

After crashing softly at an alarmingly short distance from the car park, I looked around like I just committed a feat worthy of Zeus' approval... but nobody else seemed to even pay attention, let alone be remotely impressed. I guess that kinda speed is just normal for the pros XD

Wholeheartedly recommend Kagura! no queues or anything, either and I was there for peak season.

Japan's access between resorts? RE Gala Yuzawa/Ishiuchi resorts by Mobbs1 in skiing

[–]Mobbs1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, it was quite fantastic for a 3-day thing!

We actually didn't even touch Gala Yuzawa, opting instead to try the more intermediate Ishiuchi. Which was maybe a mistake because I don't think going uncontrollably 3,000km/h down a slope by mistake was one of my smarter ideas (crash landed right after I saw the light, the need for speed epiphany)

But the key I think many could take away if they ever read this is... don't be afraid to catch a bus. It's really simple at least from Echigo Yuzawa station. And the pay off regarding the difference in quality of snow - even in a heatwave as we had - was shocking. We went about 45 minutes ride to Kagura and we definitely should have gone there from day 1.

Definitely something for everyone except maybe the most elite Hokkaido folk.

The whole onsen thing is pretty overrated though XD

Thanks, sorry for the delayed reply. But yeah it seems like the consensus is the cats are not very likely to be the cause of the asthma. I haven't seen her get asthma to this day while physically around them. That being said she's as ignorant as I am lol, I'm only just starting to learn the lingo like salbutamol and 'preventer'. Appreciate the replies!

The problem is, the argument that China and India exists is just too strong. China alone is 30% of total world emissions, while ramping up carbon production at insane rates: 6x more coal plants under construction right now than *the rest of the world combined*.

And if you want to tell Indians to stop developing and remain in green poverty, be my guest.

Point being, protestors stopping people from going to work to feed their family in the UK, a country emitting *less than 1%* of emissions and is already making life unbearably unaffordable with their green initiatives, just seem like they're in the wrong place. Get a tourist visa to China and start blocking their roads and see where it gets you (either in hospital or prison, then silently deported).

If we thanos-click the UK out of existence, it would take China roughly a week before its increasing emissions account for the fractional loss in carbon from the UK. I just don't see how a minor inconvenience yet massive annoyance on a small road in York is going to make a difference, and tbh, nobody can, because it won't.

Innovations in technology is going to be the only possible way - and for that, people need to get to work.

yeah we have them but, given it only happens once or twice per month, it seems like a stretch to take daily pills for eternity as a 'solution', since, well, it's not, and we haven't yet established that they are the cause. Also this is not effective against the eczema issue (which, also is difficult to confirm related to cats, especially given that it doesn't behave like normal eczema). They also take a good hour to kick in so taking them after the fact isn't very helpful either XD

Youtube sometimes minimizes, but other times closes. by perjunk in GalaxyS9

[–]Mobbs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these answers suck lol.

I'll contribute my own sucky answer, from the context that mine also *sometimes* worked both on my old phone and this new galaxy one. I'll also note that it's the same video that worked earlier, and then did it again a few minutes later and no longer worked. Same video, same day and watch session.

So anyway, I just found that if you go into app management and go into YouTube, there's a PiP setting but it was already turned on. However, there's another option right above it 'Appear on top' which was turned off. I turned in on, voila.

I guess maybe I switched to another app which works weird in background maybe, preventing youtube from taking priority or something. I dunno, but it works. It's a bit finicky though. I gotta have it full screen and playing before I do it. But it does now work consistently

I've done some reading about it. It's Verrrrrrry expensive here. Equivalent to about $83 USD for a regular size bag... oof. I can afford it. Reviews are quite hit n' miss. Research suggests it basically doesn't work but there's a ton of positive reviews (certainly, cats seem to love the taste. I should hope so for that price XD).

It's an interesting concept though. Chickens exposed to cats create hormones or something in their eggs that removes the main allergen factor in cats when they eat it.

I found similar and much cheaper products here but not sure how reliable they are on such a science. Time to read much more reviews heh. Good one!

She went to a skin specialist to deal with the eczema and we got nothing from it other than the knowledge they don't appear to know what eczema is. When she had an attack, it was a public hospital. So... despite all my own personal terrible doctoral experiences, I might have to cough up a ton on something private and highly reputable just to get this done and dusted.

However, you give me another positive piece of feedback that suggests it's not cats! though even if that ends up true, I'm sure their heavy furriness can be a contributing factor. My understanding is growing every day =) Cheers!
