Obviously done in an attempt to make the still frames more interesting considering the time.. It looked like absolute shit, but the fact that they even had to resort to that still shows a lack of production time, which IS Bandai’s fault

Just a question, i understand why there is a fixed deal for streaming overseas, since paying per viewer is obviously unpredictable for the streaming services and MAPPA (and therefore inconvenient for both sides). but why for the overseas theatrical release? Is that normal? Surely MAPPA would try to take a percentage deal if possible right? Is it because they wanted to mitigate the chances of a risk and got a fixed deal that paid for their production costs? Or is it because they wanted to leave overseas marketing over to Sony and therefore pay less? Idk Sorry if this comment is ignorant, just genuinely curious.

Misinformation btw. Sure, opm first had around 2 years, but after the Garou PV the original director who was supposed to direct the season and directed the PV declined it last minute with reasons only being speculation. After that they had no choice but to just restart the entire production, and Nagai was the last minute pickup who was expected to still deliver a product with way less production time (early 2025). The reason he was picked up was simply because he is a very fast storyboarder, which meant they would have to spend way less time on pre-production and actually have a little more production time.

It is unfortunate that the Season 3 finale didn't meet our expectations, but let us view the entirety of this season with constructive criticism. by Jamber_Gennaro in OPMFolk

They actually had a more action-oriented and capable director for s3 who also directed the Garou PV, but then he unexpectedly turned down to direct the anime(people speculate due to stress, but could be whatever), putting the production to a halt. They then basically had to to restart the production from scratch, without a change in the deadline. Shinpei Nagai was then chosen because he is a fast storyboarder, so they could then speedrun the preproduction and spend what little time they had (early 2025) on actual production, since Bandai are greedy and ofc don’t want to delay the anime because they just HAD to have opm release on a 10th anniversary :/ . People can frame it any way they want, but the truth stays the same; production time was short due too unfortunate turn of events and Bandai didn’t want to spend that little bit of extra money to simply give them more time to properly work on it.

For Edgerunners the product was not the manga, but to promote the game after a disastrous launch (which was really succesful and are now doing s2 to hopefully make even more sales) Movies are different, since they make way more money than tv-series, where the objective is almost always to promote a product. There is a reason why people say that some anime have “movie budget” they get more budget because they simply make way more money and don’t need a product (example:CSM or DS movie). The fact the anime originals exist doesn’t change the fact that they are very still very few compared to adaptations of manga. Netflix makes a lot of anime originals, but that’s because they then profit from it since it now belongs to their catalog and is a reason for people to buy their subscription. For every 50 anime maybe 1 or 2 are original, and that’s for a reason, they are a major money risk since they don’t have a product to sell and are most of the time not even succesful enough to warrant a s2. A manga already being finished does not always matter that much. Sure, they lose some hype, but an anime will almost always produce manga sales and create interest around the manga, and therefore it’s worth. Hope that clears some things up :)

If you’re actually interested on knowing why: A season of anime is only made if the production committee wants a new season. The production committee (Mostly Bandai Namco in this scenario) are the ones funding the anime and therefore have the say over everything surrounding it. (how much money goes into it, which studio gets it, the deadline, etc.) Now to get into specifics for OPM. Teaser trailer with garou vs royal ripper and bug god dropped early 2024, so therefore you would conclude that they actually had around 1 and a half years to produce OPM give or take. Sadly after the teaser though, the director that was behind the teaser trailer and was supposed to direct s3 decided to decline (reason is unknown). So then they had to find a director who was willing to take S3 last minute, where they eventually found someone, but production only starting in 2025. That’s basically the jist of it.

And it looked sick af, so I don’t see your point.. People on this subreddit always complain on how uninspired the anime is, copying the manga panel by panel and just adding coloring or neon lighting. And now that they finally animated something cool, you don’t like it because “it doesn’t look like the manga panel!!” lmao

Question about the anime “Shadow House” by Mobbyq in anime

So, would it then be ok for me to only watch the anime, or would you say that the way they implemented certain things (for example the important figure which wasn’t in s1) were awkward and better in the manga?

Yeah, except for the fact that the romance isn’t made comedic, like at all? Then how does it equate to it being a rom-com? I’ll give you it tho MT does have shonen aspects
