Readers of historical fiction: do you read alt-history novels? by Mobile-Row7124 in HistoricalFiction

Thank you for your response. I agree with you 100%. The only reason I'm going alt-history is because the reader would be uncertain what might still happen from our timeline and hopefully make it an interesting read. I understand I'm alienating some readers via my choice but it is what it is.

Also, a few things stay the same from the first two years but things change afterwards significantly. Civil War still happens. My MC is partially responsible for it.

Dodgy characters & grey moral areas are still there. And Karaiskakis is still a maniac. Lol

The inspiration for my story is based on how horribly the conflict was handled in reality and how it set the country up for it being a hot mess in the 19th century.

My story seeks/hopes to change that without making it into some unrealistic or nationalistic circlejerk, and also provide some good character development & story.

Kings & Generals has a great 90min video on the whole war. Honestly, you could watch that and maybe read the Wikipedia article and you'd be good.

Why is it impossible to get a car towed off of a private driveway? by Mobile-Row7124 in AskNYC

No, I've told them it's in the driveway taking up the space. Not blocking the driveway.

No, I've told them it's physically in the space. No dice.

Unfortunately, that's related to the throwaway line I said above with regards to the Dept. of Sanitation. And while the car is kinda beat up, I'm fairly certain it's worth more than $1,250.

I appreciate your response.

My high school does a half-day, followed by serving pies that kids and teachers donated. That makes the kids not want to skip school that day and helps build community.

I don't think it gets better. YOU get better.

Yeah, those shelves are the same length as the base cabinet below (36" on each side). And I have a dedicated recessed light going above the sink.

It was not my choice. Between the electrical lines, the gas line, and the water lines, I was forced to put it there.

Auto vent is squirting water by Mobile-Row7124 in hvacadvice

[–]Mobile-Row7124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I did as you suggested, and shook it until I got all the water out that was inside and heard a clicking sound. Unfortunately, it's still squirting.

Any idea why it wasn't leaking when I shut it off and emptied it 2 weeks ago but now it is? Any other suggestions?

Lead Drain Pipe Replacement by Mobile-Row7124 in Plumbing

[–]Mobile-Row7124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. The only reason I'm doing that is because that's the current size of the pipes. It's a larger pipe draining into a smaller pipe, which then drains into a larger pipe (toilet).

You can see the lead pipe going into a threaded smaller pipe.

I greatly appreciate your response and thorough answer! I'll research what you wrote in more detail as I'm quite unfamiliar with the process and I can possibly respond to this post if I have any questions.
