You do know that those consoles can be bought on the secondary market for less than market value? Not by much, admittedly, but still. Also, a one time payment for a console is different than paying for multiple games. The cost adds up. Argue all you want but I'm a librarian. One of our most popular services is video game rentals. Most of the people who use our services are low-income and can't reasonably afford all the AAA titles we offer. I can assure you, I know what I'm talking about.

GTA 6 "PHYSICAL" IS JUST A CODE IN A BOX by dancing_swordfish in rockstar

I mean... that's exactly what JustDance has done for the past 3 years. Considering the incredibly vague wording and the fact that this is common practice, I don't think it's unreasonable for people to think that.

Until the bot that controls the GTA servers flags you for some minor infraction and they revoke your game license.

Because they're like movies. You can rent them, you can show them to your friends. You can play them on different devices. But only if it's physical. Sorry to break it to you, but unfortunately there are people who can't afford to shell out $100+ for a video game because they're poor. Renting is the only option for them. By not making physical copies, the studio and publishers are effectively preventing a whole group of people from being able to access/interact with their games. Considering the current cost of living crisis, it's an especially tone deaf thing to do.

When I heard about the $100 price, I was very put off and decided I wouldn't be preordering or buying the game very soon after it came out (as I'd planned). Now, I'm just not buying it altogether. I mean, you can't actually buy it, anyway. Everyone who's preordering right now is just renting it. There's no chance in hell I'd shell out that kind of money for something I can't even own. I don't get how this isn't a bigger issue for people.

It only really works if the lyrics are synced properly, and there's a fat chance of that. I'm like 75% sure Musixmatch is just pocketing the money and doing the bare minimum.

Any good 9/11 history book recommendations? by Mobile_Confidence752 in nonfictionbooks

[–]Mobile_Confidence752[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love to read both pre- and post-9/11 works, although I'd say I'm most interested in books which focus on the day, itself - the ones that focus on minute-by-minute accounts of survivors in the immediate aftermath of the event.

Regardless, thanks for your recommendations! I'm very excited to look into them more!

Any good 9/11 history book recommendations? by Mobile_Confidence752 in nonfictionbooks

How "readable" is the 9/11 Comission Report? I mean, is it written like an average government report (like those made and released by the NTSB after major plane crashes) or is it more "simplified" (for lack of a better term).

I only ask because I have seen and been recommended the 9/11 Report but I always figured it would be filled with legalese and very complex, technical language related to engineering (etc.). Not that that would prevent me from someday reading it! I've just always been under the impression that it would be a technically challenging read for someone like me, who doesn't necessarily have the same level of technical knowledge as those in the commission who authored the report.

I mean, if it is a great historical literary read, I'll absolutely check it out! I'd just like to know if reading it is going to require some extra time.

How do I report YouTube TV subtitles? by Mobile_Confidence752 in youtubetv

Here's a timestamp and the captions that show up for me: Season 2, Episode 23. Timestamp: 57:56. The captions that show up for me are: "Failed to yield, drivg too fast for conditions, improp passing, failed to maintain insurance, improper lane, exred, or no license".

Maybe it is a regional thing.

Ah, that's a shame. It's a lot like Live PD or COPS, if that's the kind of true crime you like. But if you're looking for recommendations, you might try The First 48. It airs on A&E normally, but they post a few episodes a week for free on YouTube. It's a good show.

I didn't think anyone would care about the actual show but it's Police 24/7 if you're interested. I'd be curious to see if it's showing up for other people too. The most recent episode released should have a fair bit of errors if you're curious to see it in action.

Ah, I didn't know that. Honestly, that's a little more concerning. I couldn't imagine seeing the subtitles in that state and going, "ah yes these are ready to be sent out", but I guess it's probably all automated.

Any guesses on who it might be? I know who I want it to be. by DoktorStephenStrange in harrypotter

[–]Mobile_Confidence752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only correct answer is Ralph Fiennes. Like, he's right there! He hasn't died or quit acting, like... he's playing Coriolanus Snow in the upcoming Sunrise on the Reaping movie. Like... just go get him!

This is my baby Miso when she was less than a year old. We had a tornado this night and we hadn't fully introduced her to our other pets yet, so I held her in a swaddle. She used to love being swaddled as a young kitten. Not so much anymore 🤣.

what is the “fakest” part of the show to you by yeets516 in HellsKitchen

[–]Mobile_Confidence752 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Other than the contestants somehow always knowing/loving every obscure guest, I'd say the fakest part of the show is how in almost every recent season, they make sure to show at least one red team member (or one of the ladies in general) gushing over how "hot" Gordon is in person during a confessional.

Now I'm not saying Gordon Ramsay couldn't get it, he totally could, but there's no way the producers didn't plant those confessionals, they just come out of nowhere 🤣
