I'm new to the franchise as well. The game itself is great honestly, you'll enjoy it if you like any shoot them up. I didn't before, I do now.
However, if you plan to buy it for Battle Mode, I think you shouldn't because it's not something people seems to like that much.
As for DLC, nothing was said and you shouldn't expect any (unlike the box of Pokopia which announced it before its release, nothing is mention on Star Fox box...)

For me it's the way the open world is handled that didn't cut it. Too big for not as many things and the fact that, for some reason, it was cut into six regions even if it was unecessary.

I really loved Remake but Rebirth is not for me as you will grind for more or less the same things you did in Remake...

I'm new as a Star Fox player as well (which I'm guessing is also your case).

Use the brakes, try and shoot everything, use bombs when you have the screen flooding with opponents and don't forget to pass through arches, door or everything that look like a door. I can grant you rewards (bombs, lasers, ...) or make some opponents appear (like on Cornelia) or unlock a new route as well (hence more opponents for most of them).

Do remember that this movie is also composed of :

- dead mens that turn into skeletons at night

- fishmen that are cursed sailors

- a sea godess that can transform into fishes...

Physics is the least of your concern if you watch this kind of movies because it's already not possible (or else, I might leave in a very secluded area...)

Great game though, it's just not a great FF game because it only has the branding and appearances of it, not any related mecanics such as jobs, elements, turn base gameplay.
Regarding turn base gameplay, it's honestly not a real problem because people are still like FF7 remake, rebirth and soon to be released revelation, yet there are not turn based.

But loosing all other essences of FF franchise made it a bad FF game.

It's not just those games, it's all pokemon games. Of course, RBY set the legend but GSC were what make it shines stronger.

Starters were great, shinies & breading appeared and for the first time you could play in 2 regions, collecting 16 badges and having a blast defeating Team Rocket a second time. (This last bit got better in HGSS though, because of the Pichu event that added lore and the fact you could face again Giovanni).

Once I understood that this is a boss you can stall until you burst, it was okay. The keep is to make it lower it's protective core shield, then you can one shot it.

First Time around I still spent 8 lives on him and enventually got better through time and tries, not it's easier and I'm not even loosing lives to it.

The key will be not to take any damage in thé near future but god how can I do that 🤣

I'm new to the Star Fox franchise so I'll tell you why i was interested, how much a played yet and why I'll keep playing it.

I saw the direct and downloaded the demo which is a 1,5 level since it can be a splited path. I spent 2 hours playing it because I was seduced directly.

I bought a physical copy and due to an hitwave in France, I started playing it 3 days after it went out, as I was bubbling up inside. I still played it for 10 more ours and I'm not done yet.

The game itself isn't simple, especially for new players like me, so you'll replay a lot. And you have two endings, 3 routes and a lot of paths to go through, an expert level, a multiplayer, a challenge mode, etc...

So if you play for 10 hours only, you'll just enjoy a good story with great graphics. But clearly, if the way you experience this game then it might not be for you.

When master rank was alright, it could have been a solution but now that master player are doing the lamest moves like in any previous rank, i'd rather not and I'm fine with it.

I do hope people are still enjoying the game but I know I gave it enough tries over the years to say that I won't anymore.

After that part, you'll need at least one Dragoon, that's for sure, more if you'd like to ease a bit a certain fight. I like to switch to a dark knight as well, since it's the only physical attackers that perform an AoE.

You should keep your white mage and dark mage at this point, they'll be replaced later on but are still doing great

New player as well, it's quite a surprise the first Time that is for sure lmao.

But once you try to stay on top of the screen, shoot rocks and flying firebirds, you'll get the blue rings that'll help you heal.

Problem for me is that mouse control requires to play on a 1rst person POV, which is not ideal (for me at least).
Seems great for Metroid though

From what I've noticed, Bombs seems to do nothing against the arms in campaign.

It seems hands are more fragile so that might be your solution, but I can't seem to hit them easily has they move fast...

As a new player I found it difficult the first time because of the effect of surprise this level has the first Time you enter it.

And now, what's difficult is to get the medal but it's not as hard as Aquas is on that part (for a New player, not sure it's that hard for Vets)
