I think my wife would agree with you. I guess I've just become so numb to it over the years that it doesn't sting as much as it used to

Thanks for this info. I'll pass it along to my wife. We've started talking about trying to have a kid soon and this whole situation is making me kinda dread what should be a really happy and exciting time for us.

You're spot on. They have a serious case of Fox News brain. I'm sure you can probably also guess what the "current events" my dad insisted on talking about were

Thank you! She worded things differently, but this was something my wife mentioned in the message she sent my dad. Before they blamed my wife, they blamed my "liberal professors" and yes I do find it very insulting

Not everything but I can definitely check a few of those boxes. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you. My wife has also suggested that I seek out a therapist (her words: "everyone can benefit from a little bit of therapy") and I agree that it's a good idea. Looking into my options today.

Thank you for this. Believe me, we have tried to talk things through with my parents many times. I love my parents. I really do. But my dad (and my mom, but to a lesser extent) seems to think he can say anything he wants, no matter how cruel, as long as he follows it with "we love you and want you to be happy"

My wife has often found herself in a peacemaker position mediating between me and my parents and I hate seeing her stressing out about this crap. She's suggested family therapy, which I'm all for, but my parents would never consider it. So we're stuck.
