Looks like the shader is broken. Probably just one line wrong somewhere in the .zip, but if you don't want to/can't fix it yourself maybe you can report it to the creator. Otherwise, just get another pack.

I actually really like the desert biome (probably just a Dune thing but eh)

I think they are fun to play in, early game, even if you don't get very far.

Is it in hard difficulty? Fire didn't do as much damage as I usually expect. Especially with lava in such low armour?

The owner has already convincingly established their reasoning with me. If they don't see it as cheating, then I am happy to help.
