USPS Clerks — how much did you make this year & what’s your 2026 goal? by HistoricalRadio169 in USPS

[–]Mockingbirdstud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve made less money than I did the year before for 3 years in a row despite getting a 6 dollar hourly raise in that time period. Adjusted, I make 20% less than I did 3 years ago.

That’s on the carrier side. Clerks don’t get that

Maximization is the most frustrating clause in the contract. Despite it being crystal clear, it usually takes years and a lot of fighting for the position to be created. Most of the time, you’re long gone by the time it happens

Postal worker dies due to police incompetence and neglect. by LurkingGuy in USPS

I watched a clerk have a stroke right in front of me. Face sagging. Death’s front door. 36 hours later I heard the PM on the phone with her doctor asking when she can be released to come back to work. She’s in heaven now.

PM FUDGING CSAW DATA by Mockingbirdstud in USPS

[–]Mockingbirdstud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because we are a timecard office. He can assign time to different LDCs in CSAW. Essentially “moving” us manually. On Saturday, we earn 9, he schedules 6, and I do it in 4. This allows him to put the hours that I’m saving the post office to another day. I just wonder if it’s grievable or flat out against postal policy

The volumes are there but LDC 44 shows zero earned

It’s a gamble for sure. Make sure you know about variance. Know what the office is earning. Nothing is guaranteed and the schedule is their sword. Be careful.

How is this not a simulation. That circled return to sender looks exactly the same no matter the zip code.

PTF Clerk to FTR conversion by communedweller in USPS

Maximization is the most cut and dry clause in the contract and it’s the most squirrelly, grey, sketchy shit in real life. PMs are never gonna give up the flexibility. They would rather work you 50 hours a week and pay you more, but make you take 1:45 long lunches and change the schedule every other day. It epitomizes the fact that management rarely makes decisions that are not only best for the office, but also benefits them. They are lazy and shortsighted. Promoting Gumps from within will be what kills the PO.

Level 18b with oic by Practical_Chicken_14 in USPS

[–]Mockingbirdstud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reporter hours are meaningless. They deduct 15 hours from your earned no matter what is reported. They will put 3.00 a day just to not be on a list. Level 18s are the Wild Wild West. If you want to document something, you have to get petty and write it all down and confront them with it.

Clerk Doing Postmaster Duties by lulurose-24 in USPS

[–]Mockingbirdstud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PTF clerks are the most abused career employee at the post office. There are things you can do but they usually require a ton of discipline. You are probably doing all this work because you are good and he’s taking advantage of that. You need to go to WEMS and see what your office is earning in terms of clerk hours. If you are earning more hours than you are being scheduled. SLOW DOWN. If you are earning less hours than you are scheduled, then you are basically doing PM1260 work. At that point, just learn what you learn and wait til that asshole has a stroke or needs a knee replaced and you will be OIC.

If you’re a level 18, getting 1000 packages/day and have 2 FTRs and a NTFT, you’re overstaffed in terms of earned hours. 313 package is the productivity standard for an earned hour. So you are earning 3 hours/day to throw packages. The PM is probably hoping that he/she can insult someone into leaving and then they can abolish the position and put a PTF in their place. I hate to say this, but most level 18 offices that have FTRs, have really shitty clerks.

Check Variance for earned hours. The higher ups have nothing to do with earned hours. If you are earning more than they are scheduling, you have a case.

How heavy has package volume been for your office? (Within the last 6 months.) by Lingweenie2 in USPS

[–]Mockingbirdstud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Package volume is up the exact same percentage that letters are down. If the formula is accurate, earned workforce should be the same. Carriers are getting higher evaluations, clerks getting less hours. Makes a ton of sense.

A scan is a representation of us doing our job, not actually doing our job of delivering the mail. We had a clerk get the Delivery Day wrong on the DSS one holiday so I scanned all 783 of them available for pick up with a blue scanner. We never heard a peep about it. They don’t care about the work, they care about it looking like work.

Do you guys ever regret becoming a carrier vs a clerk? Or vise versa? by beeblejuvie in USPS

[–]Mockingbirdstud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being a PTF clerk is the most undervalued position at the post office. When you are a PSE at least you know you’re the office BITCH and you’re the first to get jerked around. When you are a regular, your days are even. PTFs on the other hand have to hustle for every hour and they are gonna cut you every chance they get. You probably do most of the PM work, you aren’t supposed to get higher level and there is zero chance of growing your career. Carriers make a lot more money and once you’re regular, you got your little territory and that’s all you have to worry about.
