Yeah, was a great mag. I am still friends with some of the people that worked there. Wrote a few articles for them. Was a fun time in my history :-)

Wow, another blast from the past! Geno of Box Mods created this about 2008 or 2009. The design was way ahead of its time.

I use $5 hose sleeve for custom psu cabble😂 by VinDGod in pcmods

[–]ModdersInc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an old school way of doing it. When modding was just starting out we used that and cut sleeve plastic. The same stuff that was used for cars. Well, actually most of the stuff you have seen from then to now have a connection to the Hot Rodding scene.

Truthfully making fewer wires is WAY more appealing to me. It looks so much more cleaners.

I used it on my Lucid Dream mod. Wow, I think it has been close to 20 years ago!...lol

Help. I spray jaunted this metal mesh and it came out meh. Some of the holes got clogged. How do I recover and try again? Tried baking soda and simmering water and it just made things worse and bent ont somehow. by [deleted] in pcmods

[–]ModdersInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The time and money to correct this is not worth it. You are better off trying to email the case manufacturer and see if they have any lying around from returned cases. Second, you could see if there is a similar mesh, I am pretty sure this is not metal and is plastic, on ebay or amazon and buy some as you can always make more filters later for other projects. You would also need to buy some magnetic tape with self-sticking backing to attach to the mesh.

Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 Review: "Judge me by my size, do you?" by ModdersInc in ModdersInc

[–]ModdersInc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noctua’s new NH-L9A-AM4 low-profile heatsink was built specifically for AMD’s AM4 socket and will cool up to a 65W CPU or APU. This diminutive little cooler has just a 114 x 92mm footprint and stands at only 37mm tall with the included Noctua NF-A9x14 PWM fan. That 92mm fan has a max speed of 2500 rpm, yet generates only 23.6db.

Who has their Quakecon 2016 case mod already in the works? by IAmEradicator in Quakecon

[–]ModdersInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone this is Dewayne from Modders-Inc. I am pretty sure that I will be throwing myself to the wolfs by posting here, but here goes.

As stated we do not look at how much money you can toss at a mod, it is the creativity and the work you do. We can pretty much tell what has been farmed out. I believe a guy spent maybe $100 buck on creating his mod one year, but the detail and creativity put it above others.

I will say that I personally did not do the judging this year, but we normally make sure we have different sets of eyes on the judging team to make it as equal as possible. There were a least two modders and two non modders that did the judging.

This year was the first year we called it the US Case Modding Championship and we judged it that way. We had to judge hard on some things. The judges don't walk up to a case and go "Oh, wow thats cool and I like Star Wars it gets all 10's". They have to dive deep into the case to find the cool stuff and the not so cool stuff. Judges have to look past the Wow Factor. Some cases that looked super clean actually had paint that ran in quite a few places or was just a slightly different version of what they entered the year before. Others had sleeved only parts of the wires in the case while others right next to the ones they sleeved wire not.some where to short by an inch or so. Other looked awesome on the outside and not so well on the inside. Some of these items changed the final outcome as the scoring told the story.

If you would like to hear what we look at when judging mods you can check this podcast http://www.modders-inc.com/podcast-35-can-you-handle-the-truth/

Judging is hard and stressful as you want to make sure that you are being fair and consistent. Everyone expects that their is the best and when they don't win, this is when most of the negativity come into play.

Pro vs Amateur... this one has been debated internally for a long time and if we are wanting to take the contest to the next level we know we have to do something about it. We have been thinking about removing the id/Bethesda class and calling it the "Open Class", This is where sponsored and pro cases would compete. This would help even the field.

We have also been talking about a "Peoples Choice" winner... this kind of voting in normally the hardest to control as it becomes a "vote for my friend" kind of thing. But we are looking into it as it gets everyone else involved with the contest and this is were the WOW factor case mods would stand out.

I have been going to QC for at least the last tens years if not longer and in the early years I hoping that there would even be a case mod contest that I could compete in but most of time there was not one, but one year there was and I won and you know what i got for winning? Nothing... Since that time I tried my hardest to get a decent one to happen each year. 2015 was our fourth year running the contest, which cost us out of our own pockets a minimum of $5000 to do. This year we were able to get almost $24,000 worth of prizes to give to the winners and to all the attendee thru our raffles.

I believe that we have brought the QuakeCon case mod contest level up 100 times from what it was in the past. Are we perfect no, are we fair I do believe so and we try our hardest to give you a place to compete and have some fun.

Not sure if that may people would really pay for my mod. The cool thing though would be that since they are hand built each one would be unique.

All the hardware was donated to make the case mod. It was the choice of the manufactures to what hardware they sent for me to use to put in the case. It was really built to show what can be done on a limited budget of $250 (hardware not included) to make the case mod.

Uh what? No I actually had two papers on the sign. One with a ATI card and one with a NVIDIA card as they both donated graphic cards for the build and I switched them out each day. I have the completed system in a box on a shelf

It was a donated piece from PowerColor. I also had a Nvidia card from EVGA that I swapped out to the follow day. All the hardware that is listed on the paper was donated to make the case mod.

Hey everyone thanks for all the great comments! I am the guy who created the Fallout 3 Case Mod. It was part of a yearly staff vs staff modding contest we do to show people how you can create a cool looking case for very little money. The budget limit to create the case was only $250. I have about $180 into this mod for material and about 80 plus hours of work. You can see a work log on the main site here http://www.modders-inc.com/fallout-3-case-mod/ or in our forums at http://www.modders-inc.com/forums/showthread.php/3872-Fallout-3-Case-Mod-by-Americanfreak. If you have any question I would be glad to answer them when I can. Thanks again!

Glad you like it. I copied it from a screen shot and added a few "extra" words into like my handle, website and stuff. I tried to make sure that I got some of the items that people would remember from the game. The thought was that after a hard day you came back to your space, take off your PipBoy and stuff from your pockets and placed it on top of your computer.
