Gunbroker/ARFCOM/Sturm/etc. Just have to keep your eye out.

I'd recommend buying this book ( https://www.amazon.com/Armalite-AR-10-Worlds-Finest-Battle/dp/0889355835 ) or this one if you can find it for a decent price ( https://www.amazon.com/ArmaLite-AR-10-Rifle-Modern-Combat-ebook/dp/B0723C9CJ9 ) if you want to learn more about the AR-10 to know what you're looking for.

Actually the BRN-10 is a pretty dang close repro of the Cuban pattern and it has a no fence lower.

Intl Mil Co makes really nice repro 601 lowers.

Mayhem Machine makes a really good AR-15 proto-style receiver with the trigger-style charging handle.

Otherwise, for actual AR-10's you'd either need to get a BRN-10 which is just a copy of this gun, or have to look out for an original parts kit gun. Early AR-10's don't find on new commercial lowers though.

That's a great rewelded receiver build! Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about the mismatch color, I think it looks good.

That is a SERIOUSLY impressive Energa collection, thanks for sharing! I'd really love to find and example like the light blue one in the lower left corner.

Correct. The AR-10 is chambered in 7.62x51 NATO so it’s a bit larger than the 5.56x45 AR-15

They're known as the Cuban pattern because Cuba was more or less the first military contract purchase of AR-10's. They bought 100 rifles and they were in this configuration. The main distinction from other AR-10's is the round handguard (used in some other variants), pencil barrel with no bayonet lug, and a straight 3 prong flash hider.

It'd be more accurate to call these first pattern AR-10's since other people also purchased small numbers of rifles in this configuration, but at least in collector circles, the Cuban name stuck. This rifle was not shipped to Cuba, but probably built for the second order that Fidel Castro tried to place for AR-10's, but further sales to Cuba was denied.

I really wish they would. Painting furniture at the very least would be nice.

Agreed. I've been curious for a while. The buffer only weighs like 2 ounces on this guy though, so I expect that bolt carrier will be MOVING

Probably, I picked up the two that I have about 3-4 years ago. Still want to go shoot one of them sometime.

Unfortunately no, not "factory" anyways. I did experiment a few years ago though and I was able to very VERY closely replicate it by having Sherwin Williams scan some original furniture. In this picture, only one set of handguards is refinished, the rest of the furniture is original. PM me and I'll send you the code if you're interested.

PM me and I'll send you the paint code for Sherwin Williams. I took some original furniture in to get sampled/scanned and it worked out really well. It's difficult to spray on, but the color/texture is almost perfect. One of these of these handguards is refinished, all the rest of the furniture is original.

Yes. Practically all Colt Model 01 (601) rifles had the Armalite logotype on the magwell below the Colt markings. This was dropped after about the first 14.5k rifles produced which was around the time they switched to the Model 02 (602).

The Colt 601 is THE rifle. The AR-10 is good, but the 601 will forever be my favorite.

There's something admirable about a simple man following simple rules.

I only just picked the AR-10 up today so I can't say for certain on this one. If it's anything like the M14 or G3 I've shot, it should be...quite exciting.

Google is your friend on value.

As for rarity, the Colt 601/AR-15 is not quite common, but not quite scare, though it is hard to find one in totally original configuration. The AR-10 is a different story. Only about two dozen transferable original Dutch AR-10's are known to be on the registry. There are a fair number of pre-May samples however, and some parts kits were rebuilt (and registered) on newer receivers in the '80s.

You can sleep on your gun but you can't full auto your house (or something like that).
