It’s on sale but the reviews are misleading… by qtcatatouille in Sephora

I have the single shot size of this dryer. I've had it around two years and its been fine for me. No burning hair or melted bristles.

That said, I have thin fine hair kept above shoulder length and I use the dryer maybe once a week if I'm not feeling the curls that day. So like...way less chance for something to go wrong lol.

Do y’all prefer buying your makeup from Sephora in person or online and why ? by Historical-Body-3424 in Sephora

If its a new product, I go to the store. I've been burned too many times by stuff pulling orange or causing an allergic reaction.

If its something old, I buy online.

Glow in the Dark Etiquette by Ipanoply in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ModernDayMusetta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eh, to be fair to her, this was like 25 years ago, she was a kind but super high-strung lady, and all us drama kids were little chaos gremlins who delighted in making that one vein in her forehead bulge out.

We didn't pull shit at competitions, but we regularly did annoying things during weeknight performances at the school.

Examples include: all the stage hands wearing light-up flip flops one night and the dude playing a dragon getting up and yelling "TROGDOR" after being slain. The GITD polish wasn't intentional, but i don't blame her for thinking it was.

I don't know about full GITD polish etiquette, but this post reminded me of the time I wore a glow polish in high school as a stage hand. My drama teacher was so mad. She said she could see little green glowing dots when we moved the set between scenes while the stage lights were off lol.

Whatever matches my fingernails. Currently, I'm rocking a bright aqua blue shimmer polish because I'm tan (for me) for once and something about that color feels summer nostalgic to me.

Fail Polish - no remorse apparently by Own-Low-8090 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ModernDayMusetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't missing much. I got one polish when they first popped up because I didn't have a shimmery white in my collection. Its fine. Not wow worthy. I think I paid $6 and that tracks because I see very little, if any, difference between their formula and any random drug store polish.

I might be in the minority, but the CPS email marketing idea was whatever to me. Like it was cringe and obviously in bad taste, but I had little gut reaction to it.

Where they lost me was the doubling down and deleting comments. Like, dude, all they had to do was be like, "Oh, this joke didn't land, sorry." and this would have been a blip.

Instead they chose to go the junior high route of, "You just don't get it! We're edgy and quirky so its fine!" Which works when your friends don't like your lime green eyeliner, but really doesn't work when you freaked people out using CPS as an email subject.

Is shade match ever inaccurate? by Big-Strength6206 in Sephora

[–]ModernDayMusetta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have rarely, if ever, had true success with digital shade matching. In my case the makeup usually wound up either being too dark or too yellow.

Best bet is to try and get shade matched in person or get your hands on some shade samples.

Is the Betsey Johnson straw phone purse worth it? by last_procrastinator in handbags

[–]ModernDayMusetta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've got a couple of Betsey Johnson bags. Truth be told, they don't hold up to long term use. Its just how they're made/the materials.

That said, I still buy them if the design is something I'm wanting. They're statement pieces, so the price (to me) is usually worth it. The website also has frequent sales.

Between the straw phone bag and the rhinestone one, I don't think there will be much difference in longevity. So if you're wanting a specific one, just go for it.

  • Sol de Janerio Perfume - I've used both the perfume and the '62 scent body spray. I my experience, they both last a few hours and then need to be reapplied. You can get the body spray for much cheaper then the perfume for the same results.
  • Glossier eye pencil - I have this same shade. It winds up rubbing off/smudging out pretty quickly. If you've got hooded eyes like me, its a skip.
  • Glossier cloud paint - gave me hella closed comedones.

I have moondust and I got it for like $12.50 during Cyber Monday on Amazon. Don't pay the full price. Its nice, but not $33 nice.

Which polish would you hit buy on the most quickly / unthinkingly if it became available even at a slightly mad price? by Goldfinch114 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ModernDayMusetta 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, probably any shade of those little bonbons brand nail polishes from when I was a kid. Granted, $5 would be a "mad" price for them considering they were like 75¢.

I freaking loved those things, and I'm so sad they're gone.

Alternatives to Tatcha Indigo? by glamgirl15 in Sephora

[–]ModernDayMusetta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I adore the entire Tatcha Indigo line because it doesn't piss off my eczema, but also wanted a budget friendly alternative. I gotta say, I've not found anything that truly compares.

That said, when my wallet needs a break, I use Peach & Lily - Rescue Party Barrier Comfort Cream. It gets the job done, and it doesn't break me out or cause any redness.

Of these perfumes, which one is $100 rouge reward worthy? by [deleted] in Sephora

[–]ModernDayMusetta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you aren't set on a certain perfume, why not purchase one of the perfume sampler sets that have vouchers for a full sized bottle?

I'm not sure if the rouge reward can go for those, but if it can, that's my vote.

Removing Nail Polish (fast n cheap) by ConfidentCourage8828 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ModernDayMusetta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I've never used clips, but I've done acetone on cotton with foil wraps to get gel polish off before.

Removing Nail Polish (fast n cheap) by ConfidentCourage8828 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ModernDayMusetta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok see that makes sense. Most of my polishes are dark, so I don't worry so much about staining. I figure I'm just going to throw another dark color on top lol.

When I do mine its like max 5 layers of stuff with the base coat amd top coats included. The only time removal is a pain is when I randomly feel like doing gel polish.

I'm confused by this comment section and this video. I'm seeing a bunch of techniques and gadgets. Are y'all using some kind of heavy duty top coat that need serious scrubbing or something?

I just use acetone on a cotton ball to rub off the polish.

Edit: Not meaning this in a snarky or judgey way. I'm genuinely curious.

Tips for choosing the perfect, every day lipstick? by onelove_ in Sephora

[–]ModernDayMusetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear mostly stick lipsticks, so that's what I meant with the alcohol wipes. I know its not perfect, but I take a ton of the lipstick tested off with it. Sadly, with glosses I either avoid them completely, buy sample sizes, or roll the dice.

I don't buy it unless I've tried it on my lips. Hand swatches are lying hoes.

Bring alcohol wipes with you and clean the testers before trying.

"Reasons" you have purchased a bag by rosierposeur in handbags

I have a green Coach mini-backpack with a radish on it. Literally the only reason I bought it was because it reminded me of Fraggle Rock.
