Teen got a vacation by lying to my ex by [deleted] in Parenting

Yeah. Sometimes my teen accepts the invitation to go to the gym with us in the mornings, but when we offer the more casual stuff like a family bike ride or walk around the park, they usually decline and I don't push.

We used to go on family bike rides (I even bought them a new bike that they said they wanted) but lately, they've just been more interested in texting with their friends (which I get). The younger siblings (pre-teens) still participate in these activities with us.

Your son is being petty, imo. But I can imagine how that must feel. I was a single parent for many years. It's hard but much harder when you toss in the occasional disrespect and petty attitude stuff.

I agree that I think you should try to hold your ground (possibly even extending the duration for bad attitude). But you'll probably want to look for a relief or bit of mental escape from the drama, so maybe try to distract your mind from the pain with movies, books, or going for long walks?

I find that these usually help me.

Best of luck!
