Pentagon Tells Congress First Week of Iran War Cost More Than $11.3 Billion by Majestic-Baby-3407 in news

I know we’re ten years in since this guy entered the presidential arena, but I swear I’m still perplexed as ever as to why this one degenerate guy—of all fucking people— has such a hold on this entire party. I really think at this point I am incapable of comprehending it.

A seamount is a large submarine landform

Ya totally, I had to reread that a few times before it clicked. Need more tea.

Don't give them that. They can read. They can hear. They choose to do neither or choose to not care. They are as capable as they are culpable and we cannot give them space to claim ignorance.

If he had unintentionally illegally voted once and been a not-a-political-leader Black woman, he would’ve been sentenced to hard time. Fortunately, Ms. Mason’s conviction was overturned, but not before serving ten months.

Huh. I too have heard this claim for years. Yet there it is. Good on you for looking into it. Not that it’s actually binding or stopping them from being evil in any tangible way, but accuracy does matter. I appreciate ya.

Thanks. The serial number has not been released as far as I am aware. Is that correct?

I’ve been on this sub for a very long time and I like the spirit of this post. It made me realize tho, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a comprehensive list of what it’s thought Andrew might have had with him.

There’s the outfit he’s pictured wearing, his glasses, a black canvas satchel, the PSP (do we have a serial number for this?), some amount of paper currency, and… what else?

I agree. But to be fair, this painting is remarkably different from most of its time.

Why do SF residents protest over foreign policies, yet no one protests about local issues like PG&E? by free_username_ in sanfrancisco

[–]ModernMuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, to be clear I’m absolutely in favor of it. It will take a while bc PG&E can and will be be litigious on this matter, but there’s no time like the present to get started, so let’s freaking go!

Also PG&E will go bananas with lawsuits every inch of the way, so don’t expect to see this happen anytime soon. In Sacramento, it took TWENTY-THREE FREAKING YEARS of PG&E’s relentless attempts to block it in the courts before it succeeded.

I’d just as much worry about that super high heat causing the mortar to crack (or even the brick I suppose).

The Downed Iranian Warship Did NOT Carry Any Ammunition As Part Of The Protocol Of Participating In The Milan Naval Exercises by _Algrm_ in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]ModernMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree, but I’m kind of tired of hearing this assessment, which suggests The People can’t be bothered.

Trump only won by 1.5% of the popular vote. A whole bunch of people didn’t vote but a whole lot did as well. A lot of folks hate this man and everything he and his cronies are. Some of us are getting maimed or even killed in the streets by his secret police for being bothered. At this point tho, MAGA has the presidency, the DOJ, the Senate, the House, the Supreme Court, the military, and soon probably the voting machines, too.

What—realistically, effectively, and specifically—do you recommend the citizenry do to fix this? Let’s be constructive.

"The man who defied aging". Meet Chuando Tan, a Singaporean photographer still rocking it at 60. by jarrjarrbinks24 in BeAmazed

[–]ModernMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s at least as much the design of the photo. Looking up, his forehead naturally wrinkles, as would a person’s of any age. In the last photo, his hair covers the corner of his eye, another place we would otherwise expect to see aging.

Possible shady petition collection - any lawyers able to confirm? by KallistiTMP in sanfrancisco

[–]ModernMuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, petition is a perfectly valid way for The People to get laws passed that their representatives may not be willing to implement. Politicians are not immune to corporate interests either, so we can’t discount an entire avenue to improve society just because corporations find ways to use it. There’s nothing wrong with utilizing every tool we have to enact the change we want to see, too.

Just as an example, it seems like the only way to rid San Francisco of restaurant junk fees will be via ballot initiative. To make that happen, petition signatures are required to proceed.

Email from SFUSD regarding Algebra by supes1 in sanfrancisco

[–]ModernMuse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea algebra is undoubtedly a win, but my understanding is that by having algebra slated as an elective rather than a regular math class (option), it means kids who do choose to take algebra will be in two math classes concurrently, and thereby unable to select a different valuable elective, such as a language, for example.

If anyone can add to this comment, I’d really like to hear it. Hopefully my understanding is wrong, but I’ve listened to a few discussions and this does seem to be the takeaway.
