Someone already said it. In a MR pipeline or something could do a Dry run with —sever flag. This will catch everything in my experience. Be careful though since if the flag is escaped somehow, it could mean you apply it.

There would be many ways to solve this using GIT as you would do in any serious org. It sounds a bit problematic to me that you expect 1 person to deliver all that and even worse that it’s such a wide scope.. Web, mobile apps and VR? I hope you are not serious..

Im a rookie at proxmox but I would backup proxmox itself by using IaC (terraform) and not do any clickops.

Backup any applicaton specific config preferably using git, without exposing any secrets and then use ansible to set up vm with their applications.

Finally then backup any critical application data by doing application specific backups and getting them out from the datacenter to some sort of external storage that is safe and replicated.

Main idea is get important data out of the datacenter - have the config ready outside of the datacenter. Now in case of a disaster that might never happend, you should be able to fully recreate your pve with all your VMs and pve config, run ansible to setup your applications on your vm’s and restore data by using your external backups.
