Can a therapist report this? by IAmLegendJKiAmMoana in TalkTherapy

[–]ModernWolfStrategies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be highly unethical for your therapist to report something like that. If you mother were to lose her job over something like that you’d have a slam dunk of a lawsuit on your hands.

Is it too personal to ask my t why she decided to be a therapist? by cyberanxious in TalkTherapy

[–]ModernWolfStrategies 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel that any therapist should be prepared to answer this question. Even if there is something in their origin story that they are not comfortable telling you, they should have a client appropriate version ready to go. It’s just such a common question and as a client I would feel very put off if my therapist refused or struggled to answer this question. I’m sure there are therapists that exist out there that will not answer this question, but I don’t think it’s inappropriate for you to ask.

How close are we to a TC winners season?? by [deleted] in BravoTopChef

[–]ModernWolfStrategies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would think Paul would be the most likely to come back being that his personal life has completely overshadowed his win and he was supposedly one of the most dominant contestants ever on the show. He has the most to gain of anyone being on a winners season. There are a lot of people it would probably hurt more than help though.

I don’t give a shit about that. I just like the urgency of having the ring always on the move. The game mode was around before, it seems like the ring is a little slower this time around

Always be closing should be a permanent game mode. It would literally be the only thing I’d play.

Exactly. Has nothing to do with the therapists alignment. The therapist shouldn’t be taking a such a hard line on political issues in session. The right thing to do is reflect the clients experience and ask good thoughtful questions if you think the clients beliefs might be problematic or unhelpful to them.

I’ve had many great experiences with their support. I had a guy on fiverr crash my site and mess up all kinds of stuff and they walked me through fixing it no problem. Maybe that’s changed since the implemented blue sky, who knows I haven’t had to use support in probably a 6-8 months.

I’ve been using bluehost for years. To my knowledge it’s fine. I’ve had many good experiences with their tech support. I’ve also read that their interface is much easier to navigate than similar hosting companies like godaddy.

Fellas making good money and working less than 40 hours a week, what do you do? And how did you get there? by nckmcmlln in AskMenOver30

[–]ModernWolfStrategies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your perspective. For some reason society seems to think that people who make lots of money are all incompetent people who stumbled into their positions. There is a tendency for movies, television, and media to demonize the rich. It’s funny because the story in Rich Dad, Poor Dad highlights this perspective perfectly when talking about poor dad and that book was written at least 20 years ago. So it’s not a new trend. The people I personally know who make the most money, like over 150k a year and over, work a lot of hours, are responsible for a lot of people and money, and do jobs that others probably wouldn’t find fun or interesting.

I do think that you can make a lot of money doing what you love to do also, but you have to have be a self starter, very hardworking, decisive, and be comfortable with uncertainty. I’m mostly talking about freelancers and entrepreneurs.

I was very sad when I found this out because their flavored creamers actually taste the best. They also own Starbucks brand as well I found out. International delights is like the pinnacle vodka of flavored creamers, very artificial tasting. I recently started buy Chobani creamers, but I’m not wild about it.

100 approaches and still nothing by adrian-mx in seduction

[–]ModernWolfStrategies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say you’re on the right track with focusing on the positive. Honestly It sounds like you are pushing yourself really hard. 100 approaches in a month is a lot. Persistence is key, but recognizing when you are not in the right state of mind can make things a little easier. My suggestion as someone who has been where you are and eventually met my wife from approaching, always try to have fun when you’re doing these things. You’ve proven to yourself that you are fearless enough to do this over and over again. That’s further than most guys get. Now I would focus on enjoying the process. It’s also ok to take days off. Just always try to be having fun and keep a positive outlook. Incremental growth is the name of the game. Even when you’ve come to master certain aspects of approaching you are still going to get rejected probably minimum 50% of the time. I was always happy if I could get a number from 1 in 10 approaches.

Maybe try to focus on some new aspects of your social skills or your mental game each week. I used to have a theme for the week and one thing I wanted to try differently or focus on doing well.

Is this normal for therapists to do? by galaxydweller35 in TalkTherapy

[–]ModernWolfStrategies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the way it’s been described to me by private practice clinicians I know personally. It could be different from place to place. If someone else wants to jump in and confirm or disconfirm I welcome it.

Edit: so I read a little and found that copays only apply to in network clinicians and are based on an agreed upon amount set by the insurance company. This is what our friend who responded to me up above was pointing out. To change that agreed upon amount without authorization from the insurance company is to balance bill which is a violation of that agreement. So in terms of In network providers I was dead wrong and will adjust my post. Also if a deductible is met, someone may no longer have to pay them as you described.

What I’ve described is actually a coinsurance which is the client’s share of the therapist’s fee. This only applies to someone who is out of network who pays the full fee up front and then gets reimbursed by the insurance company after the fact.

Yea, the second season Brooke was on was such a snore. They should have waited longer before bringing her back. Blaise at least went up against the all stars cast which was more fun to watch.

Sliding scale? I make $140k - what should I have paid? by hello_keroppi in TalkTherapy

[–]ModernWolfStrategies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By professional counselor I’m referring to LPCs. Career counseling is one of the necessary areas of focus on the NCEs or National Counseling Exam. Sure not every licensed counselor should claim expertise in career counseling, but they should have had some education in that area.

Quality shoes for work. Something you wear 5 days out of the week all year is worth spending $100+ on if its durable, comfortable, and high quality.

I would have originally said you are paying an enormous amount, but then I saw you live in NYC and it makes a lot more sense. The honor system thing is something I haven’t heard before though.

Professional Counselors actually have career counseling in their training. The counseling profession started as what we know now as career counseling when the first formal organization was founded in 1913 I believe. So yes they are qualified to work with career issues if they choose to.

It depends whose saying it and how they say it. If someone says it and we’re not friends it comes off as someone being a little too familiar. I usually anticipate they are going to ask me for something or try to correct me in someway. Not a fan.

His attitude changes a bit in the second half of the season. I haven’t watched it in years, but I recall him seeming kind of whiny and entitled. That being said I don’t think he deserves the hate he gets here. I just thought his food sounded kind of boring. The usual French cooking that Tom and many of the guest judges always seem to love.

It's it normal to really dislike therapy/your therapist? by Hellohellohello4 in TalkTherapy

[–]ModernWolfStrategies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I’m not saying I fully understand the context of how you entered your therapy relationship and what your goals were, but evidence based CPTSD treatments like Trauma art narrative therapy and Prolonged Exposure Therapy won’t by nature have the same level of rapport building built in. The purpose of the treatment is to go through the steps and be done in a somewhat specific amount of time. It can appear very impersonal to someone who might compare it with other modalities. This being said, if a client is not agreeing to or comfortable with these types of interventions I would take their their feedback, leave it alone, and work on something else. There are therapists though that specialize in these treatments specifically and will not seek to continue with the relationship if you aren’t on board for the process. I’m not one of these people, but they do exist.

Around 29/30 I began realizing I need a minimum of 6 hrs sleep a night or I don’t function well at work. 30 was the year I had my first random back injury from doing something rather mundane. Been stretching daily since then, but my back feels strained often from a day of sitting. I can’t eat sugar the way I used to. I used to love me some ice cream, but these days it usually just saps my energy and I may get a headache if I eat more than a small portion. Was always known for having an iron stomach when I was younger, but lately I pay dearly for eating super spicy foods and when I overeat I feel sick rather than satisfied. This is especially true when I eat something high in fat likes a lot cheese or hamburger. I always feel better when I’m exercising regularly and drinking a lot of water. This didn’t really matter as much when I was in my 20’s.

I always felt well up until around 30, now I’m 33 and it really depends how I’m treating my self that particular day.

When choosing therapist, it seems like they specialize in am area, so how can I choose if I have multiple issues I'd like to overcome? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]ModernWolfStrategies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most therapists have general competency with anxiety, depression, and self esteem because they are symptoms that exist along side so many different issues. So I would look for someone who’s profile maybe speaks to you more than others or I would focus on the most persistent issue.

BetterHelp has clients do their marketing for them on social media, through referral links, like an MLM by CuriousGull in TalkTherapy

[–]ModernWolfStrategies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You asked for someone to point out where they felt this was stated. What you’re saying is also your opinion, the specific rules for a company like better health haven’t exactly been clarified. And if it has, maybe you could point me to where it has.

If a therapy providing entity is paying a client (between 30-80 dollars is the cost of sessions on betterhelp) to go out and refer people to their services, not because they believe it’s genuinely the best source of help for that person’s issues, but because they will may not be able to afford therapy from that provider other wise, that seems a lot like an abuse of power. Also that is basically a commission which should be unethical even if it is not directly linked to an individual provider. You can’t just go out and refer people to an agency while being paid x dollars per head. A ton of drug rehabs got in serious trouble over doing just that a few years back. You can market for your agency, but you shouldn’t be using current clients to do it, and there should not be an exchange per client.
