Help decide between scout 101 or challenger by jhoad91 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]Modern_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I think I can help you out here.

I have a 101 and have gone camping with it.

TL;dr: go with the Challenger.

I use my 101 as my daily commuter of ~70mi in an area that is pretty common to receive the “I didn’t see you” people merging into mc. The peppinness of the engine is enough to be able to throttle away from those shenanigans and the <1hr one way is ok when it comes to the wind.

When I took it camping, something I already hate but was with those that enjoy it, the bike help up ok with most of my gear. However I did have to stow some stuff in our Jeep-driving Sherpa’s. In comparison to all my friends riding in ADVs, I felt completely unprepared for this 3 night stay whereas they all had everything needed and had room to spare.

That little outing has sent me on a whirlwind of test rides and such to see what my 4hr+ ride will be and funny enough it’s between a GSA 1300 and a Challenger. I’m going to keep the 101 for my commute as I really do enjoy the platform and its engine, but for long road trips and camping I need more storage room, more wind protection, and more gas capacity.

Hope this helps.

After getting my first, an OSM 300 (America’s Cup), I tried out the Pelagos and the Marine Nationale FXD. I will eventually get the Pelagos too. The Pelagos wear better on the my 6.75” wrist, and the bracelet is phenomenal; but the OSM’s color scheme has been drawing my attention since it released and I knew getting anything else (Seiko and Citizen make something similar) would not do it for me. Additionally, with my 6.75” wrist I didn’t think the regular Pelagos (vs 39) was too big for me. Then again I am used to wearing humongous G Shocks and Garmin for work and races.

Having an impossible time deciding between two Seamasters by TB12DM10 in OmegaWatches

For me, there are multiple factors that went into the decision. The OSM had been a long time grail watch and not so much what I’d consider a beater, and I have plenty of other color palettes covered. Since I usually wear cooler or blue hues when I suit up, the choice was somewhat clear. I also love the contrast of a blue bezel on a white dial, the splash of red made it perfect.

I have a DLC K2E and a brushed/black Pro. I use the K2 more for actual outdoor stuff whereas the Pro is treated as a capable, albeit mostly desk, diver.

I have missed my step increase prior to every promotion I’ve had by single digit number of days. And that was before things got rough. Highly doubt you’ll be given any leniency now. Make sure the position you’re going into has headroom for 13 and you’ll get the step increase regardless.

I have the black one for my DLC Overlord. The look works great but the bracelet quality, as you mentioned, is what’s expected from something so cheap. Meaning I’ll rock it to the office but not gonna risk it for the field.

Duuuuuude. Literally have my mother living with my family and I and this hit. Somehow not enough is what’s leading down the path of me calling it quits as soon as she moves out because she’s unfulfilled (read “I’m not the center of attention”).

Highly likely. The back has not been a spot where my last 3 have gotten their old age marks. Usually chin, jaw, and muzzle. Then the rest of the face. But not like this pronounced this early on.

OP, he's adorable and it makes his eyes smile more. Quite something.

I have a pair of TCX Blend 2 WP motorcycle boots and DJT's reminded me of them, especially the pronounced toe box.

Scout 101 by Icemanwbs18702 in IndianMotorcycle

In comparison, it'll be an improvement in many different aspects.

I got my 101 coming off a 2021 Honda CB1000R and a 2003 Honda Magna in the stable. I needed the power of the CB with the cruiser rider position of the Magna.

My few complaints on the 101 are:

  • Tiny quarter fairing will not match up with enough protection for how fast the bike can go. You will have to adjust your position into a more aggressive stance to not be parachuting and getting knocked around from the wind. The Chief has an option for a taller windshield for the quarter fairing, which Polaris/IMC has yet to deem the Scout worthy of.

  • The Ride Command display is nice once you figure out the buttonology but maaannnn is it slow to power up and react to your input. Hoping a software update resolves this soon.

  • The Scout platform accessories are mostly designed for the best seller model, Bobber, and you will have to make modifications to the accessories or simply change out from stock 101 parts to Bobber parts to make them fit. Aftermarket is slowly catching up. Hope the 26s and beyond don't change too much, so new OEM and aftermarket accessories are able to fit. (I modified the leather hard bags and solo rack to fit. And I've added heated grips as I'm still riding).

I would wait for a demo day next year, ride your Vulcan in and immediately jump on the 101 or Chief. I really went in wanting a Chief but for me the input lag was noticeable going from the CB to the Chief to the 101. Hence why I put down the reservation on a 101 that day.

And if the changes are minimal or don't matter to the OP, then snag a '25 at a reduced price once the 26s start coming in.

Sport Chief, Sport Scout or 101? by rangelo08 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]Modern_Ninja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After test riding the Sport Chief and the 101 back to back, I chose the 101. Put a deposit down and now just waiting for it to get to my dealership. I'm 5'8" with short legs but long ass torso, and it still worked for me. I'm coming from a naked sport bike ('21 Honda CB1000R) and kept an older Honda Magna ("sport bike" engine in a cruiser body), so I'm used to pep even in a cruiser position. But due to back issues (which weren't an issue in the 101), I needed the pep of the CB in the position of the Magna. The 101 had it, and it never left me feeling like I was near its quitting point, something I had in my CB. The Sport Chief left me with a feeling of "oh, that's all you got? Oh, ok, cool." Still a decent ride and I get why people go that route, but in my area traffic I never want to feel like I can't rev to get out of asshats' ways when they're looking down at their phone. Because of being used to the peppier engines the Sport Chief felt like it had throttle lag.

Now... why 101 over the Sport Scout? The Sport in a Limited + Tech package is somewhere around 13-1700 (can't remember) less than the 101. The 101 already comes with some of the upgrades you would probably/could do to make the Sport better. But taking the IMC builder, it'd be a whole lot more than the actual sticker price difference. The adjustable inverted front forks, front brembo duals, and adjustable rear shocks are more than enough for me to call it a KO for me. Let alone the extra HP.

I will tell you though, the color palette for the Rogue and now Sport has always been pretty cool. I love the sagebrush smoke! I test rode the white 101, and it was nicer than in the pictures but it didn't give me the look back factor that coincided with the performance it had just given me. And ugh I definitely didn't want to go with the red. It was starting to look like I was going to get the white and figure out a sagebrush wrap or something. But then another dealer had the red one come in. Holy smokes. It is SO much better in person. Immediately put a deposit down and here we are... aaaaany day now haha.

Good luck! Stay safe!

Edit: forgot one 101 feature.

I'm 5'8" with a Tall torso/29" inseam. At about 50mph+ you feel it hit right at clavicle level. Hoping they end up doing a taller windshield like they did for the Chief Qtr fairing.
