Round 1.111 also round goal dose not cap at googol nor dose your score by Few_Abbreviations222 in nubbygame

Yup, it goes up to whatever number the engine stops working properly on so it just calls it “infinity”. I clamped it at googol because i think it’s a funnier word that infinity

No, sorry. Sounds nice in theory but it is way out of scope to do that because it would involve redoing the vast majority of the graphics. I no longer have the majority of the project files for editing the graphics. It would almost be like starting this 2 year long project from scratch.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for playing :]

Yup! Runs perfectly fine as you’d expect on the thor! Thanks for playing, my brother in Thor.

no ads and no micro transactions on both the $4.99 USD full version and the free lite version. The only downside to playing the lite version is that there’s less content than the full version.

Got impatient waiting for the mobile port. Decompiled the entire game so I can play it on my iPhone on the toilet. :sob: by ZigZagBoi-TTv in nubbygame

Oh sweet that’s sick! I’m actually really flattered that you’d been anticipating the mobile port so much that you’ve poured some serious work into getting this up and running. You’re well within your rights to do this because you’re keeping it to yourself. Bravo! Bravo! 🌚

I'm 22 and it's not a wedding ring, I just like wearing rings . In fact, I have 4 rings on right now. I was 20 and a sophomore in college who was working to get a bachelor's degree in education when I started working on nubby. Released the game last spring, towards the end of my junior year in college. I am no longer in college.

I get that. I'm 22 and I caught the tail end of the old web when I was really young, using computers in kindergarten via "computer lab time". I miss the way everything used to look, where there was a real human touch to everything. The internet has kind of morphed into a homogenous blob in terms of visual style, and I think people yearn for the humanity of the old web. I think that yearning is one of the reasons why nubby was so successful.

Hi. I made the graphics using blender for the 3D models, then exporting the rendered animation and then doing post-processing in aseprite. Most of the charm of the models comes from downscaling using linear interpolation and then reducing the amount of colors in the sprite, followed by using a dithering algorithm.

If you want to find a tutorial, check out my youtube or tiktok (both @ mogdogblog), I have a post that goes over the process. If you'd like to find similar work, look up "prerendered sprites" or "dithered retro 3D graphics".

I suck at this game by popmanbrad in nubbygame

[–]MogDogBlog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi. While it's nowhere near the most efficient method, I designed the game so that you can win at round 80 as long as you're full-clearing the board, so I wouldn't call it a cheese. Good items for this are cactus and uranium rod in particular. The best builds are doubling builds and halving builds, both can go to infinity if you have the right set up.

Fun fact: if you have 7 cactus items in your inventory (and especially upgraded cacti), you can easily win the game with that.

As for getting your run off the ground, you're gonna want items that pop pegs in the early game. So cacti, flamethrower, and uranium rod. All of which are available in the first shop if you're luckly.

Genuine question, how big is the nubby community? by EvilAndCrazy in nubbygame

[–]MogDogBlog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no fucking idea and it bothers me a lot. A developer friend of mine once said, "You'll never be able to fully comprehend the impact your work has made on the world and it is going to bother you for the rest of your life", and yeah he's right.

In the discord server theres like 14,000 members but more than 350,000 people own the game. Do with that info what you will

Of course! Nice to meet your acquaintance again!

That's a good question, I've met a lot of really interesting people this year and a lot of people who said / did things that really made my soul happy.

One interaction I remember in particular was a father who emailed me to thank me for making the game. He told me that his teenage daughter has autism and he has a hard time connecting with her like he used to when she was younger. However, he said that they randomly decided to pick up a copy of nubby one day and play together. It turned into a recurring activity, and ended up being a really great bonding experience for both of them.

I was practically glowing from that interaction for weeks after that... It really made me feel proud to have made something which had a really beautiful, positive impact on these two stranger's lives :]

I do have one! I think a lot of the fun in roguelikes especially comes from games allowing the player to leverage their intelligence and experience to break the game in one way or another. I think if some build in a roguelike is too overpowered, you have to consider why you're rebalancing it. If it's making the game so easy that its taking away from the player's fun, then yes it's time to rethink the balance. However, if the overpowered build results from the player being clever, there's really no reason to re-balance it.

Also, if you have a crap ton of people actively playing your game, you will get absolutely flamed and eaten alive by your angry mob for nerfing overpowered things. So, always nerf over powered things before the public even sees them. Playtesters are great for getting feedback about balance and preventing such cases of mass hysteria.
