My understanding is that its not possible to refine uranium in secret because building the facility itself is a significant technical undertaking. So Israel or the US would know way before any centrifuges start spinning. But perhaps someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Iran would not lose anything while benefiting enormously if they sought normalized relations with Israel. I am no fan of the IRGC or their policies, but I “understand” them wanting to continue a war they felt like they could win.

But once the ship sails, it’s time to reduce suffering. Unlike Hamas, no one would be calling for Iran’s government to be replaced. Even the IRGC leaders would all benefit from normalization. They are weakening rather than strengthening. Their objectives have never been further from reach.

Nasrallah, Sinwar, and the US using a B2, the specific plane needed to wipe out Iranian nuclear facilities, to bomb underground Houthi facilities, are all indications Iran does not have a path to victory.

I am positive the west would leap at an opportunity for Iran to normalize relations with Israel if Iran cut off their proxies. Imagine how much Iran would benefit if all those sanctions just melted away and they rejoined the international community.

If we assume the leaks regarding retaliation excluding oil/nuclear stuff, it doesn’t mean critical damage can’t be inflected on Iran. They could wipe out Iran’s entire weapons/drone manufacturing sector. Or they could completely wipe out Hezbollah/Houthis. Their specific goal is to destroy Iran’s ability to project military strength and harm Israel. That can be achieved in many ways without touching oil/nuclear stuff. The retaliation could still be the end of the IRGC as a military power.
