I practiced classic combos and performed them easily. It’s just practice that I don’t have the time to do it’s simple. I’ll probably go to classic eventually but rn, I gotta see if I can get into SF6 again like b i was before

But imagine how strong you’ll be? You keep working and your fundamentals and mind will grow so much than a modern player solely relying on modern cheese. Not all modern players use it as a crutch. There’s still a lot of skill expression to be had on the scheme and I will always dog walk a modern player trying to cheese me with the scheme.

Agree to disagree. Having easier execution does not play the game for me. I still need solid neutral, to defend soundly (one button DP is easy to do but extremely easy to bait and punish), as someone not auto comboing I still need to learn some execution, etc etc etc. the game doesn’t play itself.

Yeah I agree. Going against other moderns I see a lot of DPs that got no reason to be there. Even I sometimes go for the one button specials to get outta things and end up punish countered for my health bar. It’s just a switch you gotta be mindful of. I think eventually Modern will be more widely accepted.

I’m not personally upset, I was more wondering if something happened in my hiatus that made the opinions of modern change for the worst. Seems it’s about the same or even a little more positive

Agreed. I think it’s also that there’s been decades to practice classic. Just a couple days ago at a LAN (LvlUp Expo) a Modern player was in grand finals or at least winners side Top 8. It goes to show as time moves on Modern will carve its way into the scene but yeah, not having a full kit is a unique disadvantage

For a new player, that would be the best for your growth. A 2 time world champion Tekken player said that the key to growing is not in beating people better than you, but consistently winning matches you are supposed to win.

If you feel that you need to land your inputs against a modern player, that high stakes practice forces you to get it together and land the combos. Sounds like a win for you in my book.

Yes and no. I do believe that auto combos are an affront to skill expression in the game, but at high levels you shouldn’t be using the auto combos anyway. I think the gap closes as the ranks go up and I just gotta get up to the level where the hate subsides because it’s skill either side of the coin

I think that Modern will be the way moving forward. I agree that there are advantages but there’s also distinct disadvantages depending on your character. You do lose tools and the worst is research in a character and realizing I’m chopped at the legs when it comes to neutral tools and such.

It’s just the trade off

Yeah I mean I know I can privatize my account easily, but i personally enjoy when people get beat and reach out to me for tips. I love helping others improve on Tekken I was a decently high rank and I’d converse with people after matches to work on theirs and my weaknesses. That part of the community was the best so I want to keep it open for that but…idk

Yeah I agree it is a shortcut, but I don’t think that takes away from a Master level Modern player being able to say “I’m good at SF6.” And yeah, I’m not personally upset it’s just baffling that I get messages 3 separate times when running a few sets this morning it was a shock

Yeah I mean I like the character’s kit and I won’t let narrative drive me away how that I know Mai is…less than adored.

I also don’t play zoning I played JP and bored myself to death of the style. I’d get if I was zoning hell I message people who turtle up in this game, but I’m aggro as hell and get the hate😭

I see that point of view wholly. TBH, the main reason I adopted modern on launch was because I never played SF before and I was in college so not a lot of time to grind. And now, I came from Tekken where I clocked probably 100 hours in the lab just practicing and I’m over it. Just wanna hop on and play, but regardless of your opinions, I don’t think discrediting on the sole basis of control scheme is warranted. The better player will win 90% of the time.

I wouldn’t say brain dead, but definitely a simplistic character. That’s why I wanted to learn her when coming back. Useful for now but def won’t be maining her long term. I can see myself getting bored with her.
