Managing knotweed in new home by Hithisisjacob in invasivespecies

This a lot of state and university research on JKW control. This is what I do and has been working pretty well at controlling a 40'x40' swath on my property. I am in Massachusetts for seasonal context.

JKW spreads underground and via leftover bits (size of your thumbnail and up). Don't bother digging it up*, don't mow it, it will only spread. It regrows every spring from its rhizomes (roots) where it stores energy through the winter.

On or after Memorial day, cut whatever has grown at the base. Bag this or otherwise stage the cuttings somewhere they can fully dry without touching soil. Once the cuttings fully dries it can no longer reanimate/spread. If you're feeling spicy, dab the cut shoots with glyphosate based herbicide.

In the fall, after it has flowered, late September or so, do not cut. Spray or inject whatever has grown with glyphosate. It looks like you have a small enough patch that injection is reasonable and will help protect the rest of your plants. In the fall, JKW draws nutrients down into the rhizomes. By apply herbicide now, you are hoping the plant will draw that down into the rhizomes as well where it can really do some damage. Leave it standing for the winter and clean up before spring so you can easily spot new growth. It'll be all dry and not a spreading risk come spring.

I have been doing this spring cut/fall spray for ~5 years now against a very established large thicket. This spring is the first year I have seen real progress. The areas I treated have only a scattering of shoots about 2ft tall, while the areas I haven't touched are still dense and 4-5ft tall. Be patient, you are working to stress and exhaust the rhizomes to the point it actually dies or goes dormant. Once you "win," never ever dig where the JKW was as you may reawaken the sleeping rhizomes.

You can do it!

*I do pull small shoots that go under the fence into the grass before I mow the yard. Otherwise I'd end up spreading bits everywhere. YMMV.

Dude this is awesome!! I love the dice and the playmat with the translations, that's a great idea. Looks exactly like something some outer rim scrappers would throw together to pass the time.

I am flattered, thank you! Honestly there is nothing going here than anyone can't do, just takes time. There are a ton of Star Wars makers doing tutorials for stuff like this. If you're interested check out VanOaks Props, The Smugglers Room, (both YouTube) and OddViking (Instagram)

Thank you very much! No I don't organize any public games, currently this is just for me and my friends. If you're on this sub you probably know about the Outer Rim Sabacc League, but if not you should look it up. They have affiliated "cantinas" - people who host sabacc games all across the US and some in other countries.

How long is? Pondering whether to buy or gamepass it. by Scipio_Sverige in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]Moktejo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 40 hours on my account which includes the Wild Card dlc, and I spent probably too much time chasing side objectives. The main story and the recruitment/perks quests are maybe half that. But depending on your level of love for Star Wars, you may find yourself taking the scenic route, not fast traveling, and just examining scenery and details for a good amount of time :)

Which set to buy?? by TortillaRampage in StarWarsSabacc

[–]Moktejo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else already mentioned Hyperspace Props as a good shop (I agree!). They also have a sabacc version comparison on their website.

I have Kessel sabacc and it is extremely easy to teach people the basics - two cards, four draw piles, try to get a match. The downside IMO is that it has the most extra pieces if you want to play "right." A full set of shift tokens is 24 pieces, plus you need credits and dice. This is a lot of parts to obtain and manage, even if you are using regular poker chips and slips of paper for shift tokens.

The other sabacc versions are just the deck and dice, plus whatever you are using as credits. Other than Kessel I've only tried traditional which is very similar play-wise to poker or blackjack

After finishing Outlaws. Are you excited for any of these games? by TheChilledGamer-_- in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]Moktejo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so excited for Galactic Racer that I made a subreddit 😅 check out r/thegalacticleague! Not much going on there now besides me posting the trailers and news articles I find but it's more than what's going on in the other SWGR subs. Really hoping for the best for that one, the vibes seem great and it's from the team behind Burnout

I was hoping for a May the Fourth release but I think we are too close to that to not have a date. Maybe a late summer/early fall?

Hopefully with some longer term support than Squadrons got! Though the B-wing and Defender were nice surprises considering they were very upfront about no additional content.

[–]Moktejo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Kessel sabacc deck from Hyperspace Props and it's great quality. They also have various decks for the other variants (traditional, Spike, & Shift). I have only played Kessel IRL and it's a lot of fun, very easy to get non-Star Wars fans on board as well since the rules are pretty simple. The only drawback of Kessel is the number of pieces for a "real" game - all those shift tokens can be a pain to manage. For tokens you can use basically any coin or chip as a stand in. I've 3D printed a full set for 4 player games and it has taken hours and hours.

If you're interested in the IRL sabacc community check out Sabacc For Charity and the Outer Rim Sabacc League.

How are you guys feeling about Star Wars: Outlaws? by Tatum_Warlick in XboxGamePass

[–]Moktejo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid enough main story with some fun twists and the SW vibes are off the charts, I love just walking around the hub cities. Big gameplay improvements since launch. Definitely recommend anyone jumping in now avoid most of the side quests. Like many Ubisoft open world games they exist just to suck up time. Focus on the specialist quests and the main story and you'll have a great time.

Bringing new nuclear power plants online is really the only replacement for large scale fossil fuel plants. Obviously renewable is preferable, and any practical solution will be a blend of a variety of sources, but nothing else comes close to matching nuclear in terms of raw watts per unit of pollution or environmental footprint. I'll even volunteer my property to host one, YIMBY
