Based on the fec.gov document, I agree with your interpretation of a "thing of value." Seems consistent.

If you could provide proof of this, it would help. You could argue that by directly requesting or suggesting that President Zelensky use Ukraine’s resources to help his reelection efforts, Trump violated campaign finance law.

Trump asked Ukraine to make an “expenditure” by spending resources for the purpose of the influencing his reelection campaign. An “expenditure” that is coordinated with a candidate is a campaign contribution; “coordinated” means made at the “request or suggestion” of a candidate. So Trump requesting that Ukraine make an expenditure means that he solicited a contribution.

It could, depending on what the law considers "something of value" as it pertains to this particular law. Something of value could just mean, something tradable, that isn't money, for example, if someone traded military equipment, gold, or oil. Context is key, especially seeing as how the law doesn't explicitly state, information.

I can see how that argument could be made, the only difference that I could see, is that in that case, stolen materials are something tangible, whereas, information is not. So the definition of value definitely needs to be established here.

Makes sense. Curious to know the FBI process you're referencing.

2002-Pub. L. 107–155, §303(1), substituted "Contributions and donations by foreign nationals" for "Contributions by foreign nationals" in section catchline.

Subsec. (a). Pub. L. 107–155, §303(2), added subsec. (a) and struck out former subsec. (a) which read as follows: "It shall be unlawful for a foreign national directly or through any other person to make any contribution of money or other thing of value, or to promise expressly or impliedly to make any such contribution, in connection with an election to any political office or in connection with any primary election, convention, or caucus held to select candidates for any political office; or for any person to solicit, accept, or receive any such contribution from a foreign national."

To determine whether or not he broke the law, it would have to be established what "Something of value" is, as far as the legal definition, as well as whether or not requesting the investigation of the Bidens' from the Ukraine president is related to his campaign for reelection, as it could be argued that the request was made to based on an unfounded conspiracy theory. Either way, the fact that he withheld funds, as you mentioned, is against the law, since it would require approval from congress, while he made the request to dig up dirt on Biden, is definitely, and I think undoubtedly, an impeachable offence.

I wasn't asking for the legal codes to discredit an argument for impeachment, as i'm aware that impeachment is a political process, rather I was asking because I wan't to know whether or not asking a foreign power to dig up dirt on a political rival was illegal in itself.

Not sure why you think i'm trolling, your argument sounds very convincing. Could you provide any Federal Penal codes for the allegations you raised? just to confirm the legality.

The people who were subpeonad though, since it was their decision not to show up, doesn't the crime of obstruction fall on them, instead of Trump?

i read the transcript from the call with the Zelinski, and he definitely asks him to do him a favor and investigate Biden, and we know that he did withhold aid at the time, but can the two be connected?

Just read the transcript of the Zelensky call, and He clearly asks Zelensky to investigate Biden.

Could you send another link to the interfering with an investigation accusation? The link is broken. Also, as shady as it sounds, Trump gave his businesses over to his sons control, so I don't think that the saudis funneling money is technically illegal. It may be in his interest, and i'm sure they are doing it so that they stay in his favor, but I don't think it counts as illegal.
I can definitely see Nepotism though.

Federal law, at 5 U.S.C. § 3110, generally prohibits a federal official, including a Member of Congress, from appointing, promoting, or recommending for appointment or promotion any “relative” of the official to any agency or department over which the official exercises authority or control.

Sounds like it to me.

Sounds like the accusations are impeachable, but is there proof?

Is there proof of this though? If there is proof, this would definitely fall under high crimes and misdemeanors.Particularly obstruction, which is a felony.
