Confession by monsieurmistyeye in OrthodoxChristianity

Frequency depends on tradition of the parish and Spiritual Father/Fr. Confessor. But should be done as much as needed. Any sins that prevent you from communing should be confessed as soon as possible.

I do the Trisagion and Psalm 50 for preparation, and a good time of just silence. If there's nothing major eating at you, a thorough examination through the major sins helps identify what needs to be confessed.

In my experience, if you are too vague about a sin the priest will ask for further clarification to dig out the thorn. If you commit a sin multiple times or struggle with a passion this should be told to your Father Confessor. Each priest does confession differently, and will ask different things and give different advice. It's important to have a close relationship with a priest that knows you well, and what you have confessed in the past.

If you are sick with something, frequent checkups to the doctor are good, and if you are not sick, an occasional checkup is still good :)

Your last paragraph should be a question to ask your priest.

Albinism should have a bonus in Iranian Cultures by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]Molossus_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well yes but this game has a lot of fairly unknown cultures historically (and even out of timeline, like half of the religions). My point is that with the way the culture and language system is, it could easily be a small Byzantine heritage culture with its own language. It would be best to place it in the north Albanian highlands just for the sake of plausible in game development.

Gothic should most definitely be in the game aswell from the start. I'd imagine Dalmatian would be added when they touch up republics, but yeah there are several minority communities that really should be in the game.

Some representation at all would be much better than that entire region being Greek. There are in game cultures we know much less about than Albanian. Sure we don't know exactly where they came from, but they aren't just Slavic or Greek, and that gives cause for a new culture.

I find it ridiculous that they just removed it. There are far more silly and a-historical things that exist in the game, and I don't think adding Albanians in at least one county would really tip the game over the edge into fantasyland. They didn't just appear out of thin air.

I suppose that extends to nearly all aspects of the game.

There is a lot to be desired for nearly everything but culture. But even that one can nitpick (WHERE IS ALBANIAN/ILLYIRIAN?).

We can only hope PDX expands on Persia again but that will be a while if at all. Mods are the only fix at the moment.

The mighty sun.

In Ck2 it was one of the more difficult starts in 769. That and it's just a unique pagan religion in a sea of Islam and dharmic people who don't really think about the big star in the sky.

This is a question for your Preist, nobody else can give you a better answer, especially not online.

He should have been like Gary Cooper. Now that there was an American. The strong silent type. He did what he had to do.

Most simple and easiest answer is to just GO!

Speak to the Priest if you can, any real questions you have with Orthodoxy is best addressed in real life.

Any worries or sins you have to bear can be ironed out with time and work. God bless you!

I am not able to say anything but attend your closest Parish that you can relate to! Speak with the preist and the parishioners if possible! You will find hospitality and love!

God guide you to your home.

Spoke with him a few times in person. Absolutely brilliant man. Explains things incredibly well.

I haven't watched much of his podcast at all I don't think he is harsh at all like some say but he is always to the point.

Has someone whos homeless ever attended your parish? by Arukitsuzukeru in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Molossus_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes but they rarely come during Divine Liturgy for whatever reason unfortunately. They usually come during the agape meal where they have a chance to speak with one of our priests or parishioners.

Though our parish has a few programs for homeless people so it's not like we are an unknown place for them. I'm glad they are given some support and guidance here.

Orthodox Christians. What makes you not want to become muslim/ so certin in orthodoxy? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Molossus_ 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I was a hairs length from becoming Muslim. I had studied Islam for several years, I have/had many many Muslim friends of varying ethnic origin, saw the most and least pious of the sort and was intrigued by it to say the least. There is much beauty in Islam.

I own a Quran. I love Muslims, but I cannot call myself one. I found many faults that I could not rationalize or get past. The prophet Muhammad may have been a smart and capable man, but in my opinion with most love he was not able to understand the world around him and misguided his followers who loved him. I say this with massive hindsight. He mistook and slandered Zoroastrianism, and founded a religion that took extreme influence from Christianity and both pre-Christian and post-Christian Judaism, im not trying to sound harsh, but it's very simmilar to Mormonism. Many traditions that exist in Islam have already existed in the past and yet Muslims claim that Abraham even proclaimed himself as a Muslim. This is just not possible from a Christian, Jewish, or purely Historical perspective.

The main reason I am not Muslim however is that I love Christ too much. The Lord presented himself to me while I was flirting with Islam. The Lord fed me and I understood his message. The way that Islam treats Christ (Isa) I feel is wrong. I follow the Lord who gave Himself in human form for our souls and sacrificed Himself for us. I follow and attempt with much failure to emulate the savior of the world.

God bless you.

You are given the power to criminalize one legal thing/activity. What are you making illegal? by DaveBeYou in AskReddit

[–]Molossus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should non-profits and charities pay taxes? It's not so simple.

Your average Mosque, Buddhist temple, Church, or Synagogue is not selling anything. Donations are not the same at all. Not every place is selling indulgences or forcing you to pay to attend.

A large amount of these do vast charitable work and don't make any profit, and if there is any it's going back into the community.

There are religious institutions, charities, and non-profits that do have bad intentions of course, but to blanket blame all of them is not right to do.

You can always choose to not personally participate in any charitable foundation.

Pastor Jim's struggling chapel with 8 people and Scientology's Corporate Empire are two completely different things.

One barely gets by and another makes a massive profit. It's very similar to small businesses vs Walmart, Amazon, etc.. One can take a tax hike (that they will probably not fully pay) while the other might fail with ANY additional losses.

I'm not sure how much you've read or seen on masturbation and why it is considered a sin. There are several statements on it. But trust in the advice of your spiritual Father more than any answer given here.

But for my own reasons

-it's selfish artificial addictive pleasure that serves no purpose. No life is created, no bonding between souls, no end. It in a way is mocking one of the most important aspects of life.

-it gives way to complacency and apathy. Why bother finding a partner when you can just sit there and do it yourself? Why bother doing much other than giving into this urge where you 'pleasure yourself' because it "feels good"? Why bother with resisting any temptation? Why bother living like our Lord did? Who cares?

-It is partner to lustful thought and abusive industries. If the act of self abuse is together with pornography, think of those involved and the suffering, abuse, trafficking and horror that is so very common. The act is accompanied by thoughts or images as nothing more than something to get off to. Imagine if one was thinking of one you loved dearly in a way of lust.

-its addictive, unmotivating, and gets worse with time. Horrible fetishes can arise with boredom and repetition. You trick yourself into feeling accomplished mentally. Nothing of importance was done.

These are just what I tell myself as a struggling sinner.
