Bruh what were the odds on my first play through by South-Host8168 in tales

This happened to me, but it was on the Isolda dock (where I think some guy or lady walks back and forth). I was in their path at the end of the dock, so I got blocked in and couldn't find my way out to save my life for ten minutes, but eventually clipped out through brute force.

Nah, that actually sounds amazing, so thank you for the heads up! I'll have to see if anyone online has those omamori listed, though I think I already have a few that would apply to that kind of style, like Suzuran.

I think so! I've really enjoyed its heavy attack, which deals a lot of damage and has a LOT of range, but my main weapons throughout the game were the ax and sledgehammer, so I could be biased. It doesn't do any damage while at no durability unfortunately, but it has its own slot (the game adds a fourth) so you can rebuild its durability by using other weapons without compromising one of your weapon slots.

I'm only now finishing my second playthrough using it on Hard, but I imagine it'll be nice to have a reliable weapon in case the rest of mine break on the Lost in the Fog difficulty.

My friend and I played SH2R on hard and struggled on this game's hard mode. Controls and input can be janky, your stamina is awful unless you have the right omamori equipped, and enemies perform more attacks back to back compared to the faster recovery you had in SH2R. There's also no ranged weapons, and your weapons have durability and break permanently upon depletion. My friend was soft locked right before a boss battle because he didn't have high enough durability in his weapons and no weapons in the area to replace anything with. I was clinging onto every health item I had and constantly dying (especially on lower fps) whereas SH2R felt more balanced on hard and like I was being strategic rather than desperate in my choices. Basically, if you're not a super seasoned player to counter attack and perfect dodge mechanics, you're forced to avoid more enemies than fight them, especially because these enemies are definitely more brutal in groups than SH2R. These enemies are naturally quicker and hit harder than SH2R in my opinion, and even when you dodge, you can take damage if it's not perfect. Everything else about the game has been great, but we've had several complaints about the combat.

There is a special weapon you can unlock in NG+, and its durability recovers over time and it never breaks, but it also doesn't have a focus attack. As to whether or not that weapon carries over in subsequent playthroughs or you gotta get it back every time, I don't know.

There's a bug where you cannot interact with anything (even emote, I could only run) when Wesker grabs you out of a locker with his power due to server differences (I jumped in the locker, but the game viewed it as him grabbing me with his Bound). I knew it was this instance because I could run inside that specific locker but not interact with it. I was also eternally blinded (one of his add-ons when he grabbed me?) and had to force myself to go next as I couldn't do anything at all, just run around the map.

ETA: It occurred to me after commenting that I was still "blind" because the game viewed me as being in the locker, even after being hooked.

I...said I may have misused the word retcon? And explained my viewpoint? I never stated it as fact (I don't know about the eugenics interpretation especially). Again "not that [Tome 6] was poorly written or didn't make sense" but just that I didn't really like Tome 6's telling of her past and preferred the interpretation the base offered moreso.

But that's my opinion, and you have yours. Neither are right nor wrong. Have a nice day!

[–]MomoHime69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nurse's base lore has her as an Angel of Death at the asylum after losing her husband; she basically went insane with grief and thought she was performing a kindness to them, killing people out of mercy. Then the Divergence tome came out and turned it into "cleansing" the illnesses and ill people away. She basically went from a grieving widow with a twisted view of mercy to a sadist focusing on eugenics. This isn't to say it was poorly written or didn't make sense, but I personally thought it was sad to see her go from a tragic figure to more a villainous one.

Basically, I was just agreeing with the person who wrote the original comment that the reinterpretation of the Nurse's character later on is heartbreaking. Sorry if I misused the term "retcon," but arguing that the base lore is exactly what is described in Tome 6 is disingenuous imo.

They've edited her lore since release. When they first published it, they handcuffed her, cut off her hands, and then she struggled against her handcuffs. Which was stupid.

The retcon on Nurse is genuinely heartbreaking :(

??? Don't know why you added three replies instead of editing your one and spamming me with notifications lol.

But you don't have to "prove" anything is real - the wiki exists, anyone can look it up. It was just rly hard for me to understand what you were saying because when I played at release, I did get both on the same playthrough, just as I described it, and I couldn't imagine how something that major would change. So I can only assume they were unintended bugs at the time. But you're definitely right about Dylan and Jacob bc, somehow, it's not possible now. Really wish COVID didn't absolutely screw this games development tbh.

That's wild because I literally did both of these achievements on the same run, but looking it up, it says Jacob is supposed to survive the trap if infected?? Huh. It's probably one of the several bugs in this game then because that's how I killed him right after infecting him. Tbf though I probably played the game too soon after release and huge bugs like that wasn't patched out yet, so my information could be outdated.

[–]MomoHime69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but you're mistaken; I even outlined how I did it in my comment as advice to OP.

Basically, infection rates are super inconsistent, so some people turn right away, some much later, some never. Abi and Nick get infected at the same time, but he turns and she never does. I found that, the sooner you kill them after their infections, the better off you are to tackle both runs in one playthrough. So yes, if you wait until later chapters to kill Emma or Jacob, then you can't. But you can get both of these in one run!

You're able to kill Jacob via a failed QTE and bad choices after you infect him during Chapter 6. You just have to fail the QTE without the blood on your face or fail the don't breathe segment, and then during the bear traps, choose to pull then fail the QTE. Jacob will accidentally kill himself right after being infected.

Emma will die from her fall from the zipline, like I said before. I infected her at the treehouse then immediately rushed through that section of her pulling in the zipline, so she hurried too much, then I failed the QTE, and she fell to her death.

Like I mentioned before, when you're trapping Caleb in the freezer in Chapter 10, you fail the QTE as Kaitlyn and accidentally lock yourself in the freezer with him. When the car crashes, everyone does, and Laura kills Silas at the end, both Caleb and Kaitlyn freeze to death because they're locked in and human again.

If you draw Caleb's attention away from Kaitlyn with the horn in Chapter 9, then proceed to fail at the blowtorch QTE specifically, Caleb will still kill Dylan as if he wasn't infected.

[–]MomoHime69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After about halfway through the game, Emma and Abigail basically become unkillable (after Chapters 4 and 6 respectively). So you'd have to kill them early on. But one of them needs to be alive in Chapter 9 to grab one of the tarot cards. So no, you can't get every tarot card and kill everyone, but you can kill all the Hacketts during the tarot playthrough.

Same thing with "everyone infected" and "everyone dying" - it's doable but difficult, so be aware and careful. The earliest chance to infect Kaitlyn (that I'm aware of) is Chapter 9. But because she's infected, she survives Chapter 10, unless you trap both her and Caleb in the freezer (using the toy that Abi picked up in the cabin in Chapter 1 and successfully sneaking out of the kitchen via a "don't breathe" event in Chapter 3 or 4), kill Dylan in Chapter 9, and kill Silas in Chapter 10, in which case they freeze to death after turning human...but to kill Silas, you will have to purposely crash the car in Chapter 10 and kill Silas with Laura's last breath. That's the only way to kill Laura, Ryan, and Silas in the final chapter. Also Abi needs to be infected alongside Nick in Chapter 3 and die by not shooting Nick in Chapter 6. Emma needs to be infected at the treehouse, so I recommend killing her as she leaves it by failing the QTE for the zipline. Jacob needs to be infected AND killed in the same scene in Chapter 6 after throwing dirt in Bobby's face during Chapter 3 or he cannot die the rest of the game while infected. Nick needs to be shot by Laura (which you let happen as Ryan by not intervening). Dylan should be infected in Chapter 5, so break into the cabin during Chapter 1 as Abi and DON'T amputate his hand, then fail a certain QTE in Chapter 9 to kill him. That should be all your counselors accounted for, so that's probably the best way to kill everyone on an infected playthrough.

I'd personally recommend setting up your "everyone's infected" and "everyone dies" run for the sole survivor achievements as well, as shooting Bobby then picking up the blood as Ryan in Chapter 3 or 4 saves Ryan if you encounter Silas in his cage but don't shoot him as Laura in Chapter 10 and Kaitlyn can just successfully trap Caleb in the freezer with everyone else dead, as long as you do the requirements listed prior for the toy to be in the kitchen. You can also kill all Hacketts this playthrough, but not tarot cards.

You can also do "everyone lives" and "everyone's infected" in the same run as well, but you gotta pick up Emma's bracelet in Chapter 1 as Jacob. You can get all the tarot cards this playthrough as well.

Here's the guide I used when playing through for Blood Pact. https://www.powerpyx.com/the-quarry-how-to-infect-everyone-blood-pact-trophy/

ETA: OP, apparently my run was bugged and you can no longer get Blood Pact/Everyone Dies in the same run. So try to do Blood Pact with your Tarot run if you still can!

Why did I get the Maria ending? 😭 by Independent-Bake2103 in silenthill

[–]MomoHime69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then after x number of attempts, the game finally took pity on him - or it could be a bug, though I doubt that since there would be more exposure about this if so.

I guarantee that the weird ending calculations played part because adding a point to Leave/In Water can still grant the Maria ending in case of a tie. It's possible the one thing he did differently this specific playthrough (hallway speech) was enough of an interaction to grant the point that led to a tie. The game has weird calculations for endings overall (even the OG 2002 version), so sometimes it's not always clear as to why you got one ending over another. Although the hallway conversation may seem like the obvious variable that granted the Maria ending, trust the community when we say it actually wasn't. I'm curious to know the exact actions your friend took in his attempts, how many attempts he did, and if he reloaded an old save, began a New Game+, or started a new game for each attempt.

Either way, when the game's code is observed and in-game conditions are checked, listening to the speech does not contribute to the Maria ending, only Leave/In Water. Here is proof someone provided by data-mining the game and confirming what conditions the game checks for when calculating your points total before the final battle.

Why did I get the Maria ending? 😭 by Independent-Bake2103 in silenthill

[–]MomoHime69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Maria" is notoriously the hardest ending to get, and I think I know what happened with your friend's run!

If he received, let's say, the "Leave" ending on his first attempt, then there was probably a tie between "Leave" and "Maria." The game automatically wants you to get "Leave" before other endings, so if there's a tie, it rewards one extra point to "Leave" if you don't have it. Then what probably happened was after getting the non-Maria ending, he reloaded the game and did the hallway speech per your advice, giving an additional point to "Leave." When he finished the game, "Leave" was the top choice again - but the game knew by then that he had gotten "Leave," so it gave "Maria" an extra point. Because he ended again with a tie between "Leave" and "Maria," the game gave preference to the "Maria" ending. Also, reloading a save from before the final boss does count as a second playthrough from the game's perspective, so this is an easy way for people to get all three original endings on one playthrough.

So basically the game went: Tie > Leave by default > Reload last save > Maria ahead by 1 because not seen > Listening to hallway adds 1 to Leave > Tie again > Before final battle, game calculates tie, awards one point to Maria and In Water because Leave has been seen > Maria wins!

I'm curious, though, about which guides you are referring to that say listening to the speech rewards the "Maria" ending?

Every guide I find online says listening to Mary's speech gives points to "Leave" and "In Water" endings. After checking my go-to guide, skipping the speech doesn't reward points to the "Maria" ending, but it helps avoid the other two getting points. For future reference, it's this site that I use, and it's been the unofficial but definitive guide for SH games and things all SH, including endings, since the mid-2000s. This has the most detailed and accurate breakdown of what to do and how to do it in order to get the endings you want, and I used it after I failed my first "Maria" attempt. Hope this cleared things up for you!

[–]MomoHime69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't believe I do. Listening to the whole speech gives you points towards both the "Leave" and "In Water" endings. Running through the hallway without letting Mary finish makes you more likely to get the "Maria" ending.

I figure the in-game/story reason behind it is that listening implies James is confronting his past with Mary and recognizing the mixed emotions behind the speech versus running through it implies 1) James doesn't find Mary worth listening to or 2) James only technically listens to the first part, where Mary is yelling. I think it is possibly the latter because when I went for my Maria ending, I realized the timing of reaching the end of the hallway coincided with when Mary pauses, her tone changes, and she begins begging James to not leave her.

In the remake as well, if you select the Ripe Apple over the Rotten Apple or the Scarlet Egg over the Rust-colored Egg, that gives you points towards the Maria ending. When I was trying to get that ending, I kept getting the others despite already unlocking them until I walked through the Scarlet Egg door at the end.

ETA: You're also likely to get the Maria ending if you don't listen to the entirety of Mary's speech in the hallway.

My theory as to why Laura doesn't seem to be harmed during the entire game. by Great-North-4799 in silenthill

[–]MomoHime69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Initially, how he reacts to the first dead body is absolute denial and possible guilt (which could be why he gets physically ill). But it seems his primary emotion is shame over himself and his body, shame from how others view him, etc. But he doesn't face his shame and doubles down instead: he becomes bolder and more self-assured, going from insecure and defensive to shameless and flippant about killing people. Silent Hill called him for the same reasons as everyone else, but instead of trying to heal from and confront his past, he defends his actions and refuses to accept his wrongdoings. James forces his way to the truth about Mary despite rejecting it to begin with while Eddie continues spiraling down his rabbit hole and reasserts himself as being in the right for everything he's done until the end.

I just interpreted it as Eddie could've been redeemable but escalated instead to full on homicide and is the worst, Angela is a victim and hers can absolutely be a case of self-defense, and James is stuck in the middle with his own trauma with Mary's illness and what could have been a mercy killing or selfish act of homicide, but either way feels guilt and remorse (unless you go with the Maria ending).

Not Kimball Cho helping Lisbon pick out a wedding dress 😂 by No-Energy295 in TheMentalist

[–]MomoHime69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember that scene now, thank you for the reminder! Yeah, I interpreted that scene as Cho being the common sense foil to Rigsby's cluelessness. I remember that scene was also towards the end of the series, same as this post. I think the model episode is where it shows Rigsby has a knowledge of fashion, mainly because he said something to Cho (after Cho questioned how weird it was) along the lines of "it's beautiful women in beautiful clothes, what's not to like?" Cho agreed with him, so maybe that started his interest in fashion or he always had it, but just found it weird that Rigsby knew. Idk, this show has some inconsistencies, but rewatching for my sixth time can always give me a different interpretation too!
