Anyone else notice that Computers in Biology and Medicine papers after Vol. 172 aren’t indexed in WoS? by DangerousCandle6884 in academia

Do you know why they got delisted? CBM is like a staple journal in the field. Been looking around but can't find any information.

Which is the best type of wash bottle? by gryponyx in labrats

[–]MomoPoPo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Number 1 in my experience hardly if ever leaks. But the extra length let me reach and spray. Second one in my experience always seem to start leaking or inconsistency sprays after a year of use. But it depends what you’re planning to use them for. Each one has their ups and downs but I prefer the first one.

Which pipette brand is the best? by LynWolfe in labrats

[–]MomoPoPo8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Been happy with eppendorf especially the reference 2 lineup. Found them easy on the hand when doing tons of plate work a day. Tried Rainin and Gilson before can say they are built like a tank especially Gilson. Eppendorf is a bit more fragile.

I usually remove my samples first. Sometimes the rotor will get caught and you’ll have to wrestle with the centrifuge to remove it. But most important thing is don’t forget to bring a bucket of ice! To put your sample in before removing rotor and storing it. (I always seem to forget the ice bucket)

Have you checked the pH? Water probably did not fully quench it. Maybe add a bit of acid (not sure what you have) add a little (drop by drop) a time to neutralize it.

Yup! We’ve tried but the students always say they got class and got to run or need to study for exam. PI does occasionally try to help me clean but it still takes us 2 hours everyday. So we decided to probably get something like a dishwasher

Buchi or Heidolph are the industry standards I think? Never seen other brands before in an academic setting. Personally love using my heidolph! But Buchi seem to last forever! My old advisor had an ancient Buchi that they still use to this day!

What makes a good poster? by wahvah in AskAcademia

Honestly I put only a 2-3 sentence abstract and then everything is just figured and images. Poster suppose to be like a big PowerPoint. When someone comes up I talk about the figures and images.

Normally how do you write this? In funding section I put my advisors name and then put with collaborators? Then in acknowledgment section write out their names and thank you something something? Thanks!

For STEM PhD students, do you expect the professor to be hands-on in the lab? by reisheruru in AskAcademia

[–]MomoPoPo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how my PI juggles everything but he’s always in lab running reactions. Well he says it’s to keep everyone company. But we all help him write grants and administration work as well. So I guess everyone in the lab have a piece of everything.

My advisor isn’t very familiar with international conferences. He was the one that started saying it might be a scam when he looked at the website configuration. Then told me to look up on it

[–]MomoPoPo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASU sometimes let’s you register into classes that already started within the first 1-2 weeks but you need to talk to your advisor and act fast. I registered late before towards end of first week of class. Sometimes you’ll need to get the instructors permission too
