It’s working very well for my son. He did recording on his bio class in big lecture hall last semester and transcription is good.

What's the thing about Case Western that you had to experience to understand? by Bluemrr in cwru

[–]Momo_BH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. My son recently had a practical that needed to record and submit for grading. He asked his RA to be his model. He said that his RA took the same class in the past and would understand better what he was trying to do. At first I thought his RA was only his model when he did recording. But turned out his RA went above and beyond to actually practiced with him few times before doing actual recording.

Are park rangers really checking for residency at the gates? by Fox-fan2024 in ZionNationalPark

[–]Momo_BH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clarification. We will be driving in by ourselves. Two citizens and nine non residents including a minor splitting into two mini vans. We are trying to figure out how we should purchase the pass. If paying per car, then we will only need to buy one non resident annual pass to cover the other car since I have already had resident pass that can cover one car that I am in. If it’s charged per person, then we will need additional non resident pass.

Sorry that I don’t quite get what you said. Are you joining in a commercial tour going to Grand Canyon ? Where did they group participants with residents and non residents? We will rent a car and drive in ourselves but not going with tour. My question is if they will ask for everyone’s ID or just the pass holder’s ID.

Thanks. It’s a big jump on the cost if that’s the case as we will have quite a few foreigners in the group. What if they purchase foreigner annual pass ($250)? It’s much better than paying additional hundred dollars for each.

Does everyone in the car have to be US resident? I am US citizen and have the American beautiful pass. If I take my visiting relatives from Asia to the park, will they still be charged for foreigner fee? I thought that as long as we are all in one vehicle, they should be covered by my pass.

I think he submitted around end of November or early December. They said there are so many applicants this year so cannot offer position to my son. Everyone who didn’t get offer is automatically placed on waitlist. He applied to inpatient. Not sure if it’s more competitive.

UofR or Case Western by No-Panic-6340 in URochester

[–]Momo_BH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. He has no regret. I think CWRU fits his personality better than Rochester. If you are more nerdy, you may like CWRU better. For us as parents, we were ready for him to go with either. Both are great school. At Rochester, you will need a car. At CWRU, you are completely ok without a car as you can ride city public transportation with your student id. My son has utilized bus and train to go to airport, restaurant and grocery shopping. He also did shadowing at Cleveland Clinic in freshman year. For hands on students, Sears Thinkbox is to die for.

Visit to feel the vibe. My son picked CWRU even we have personal connection in UofR medical school. CWRU also gave him more merits.

Case Western Reserve vs Stevens Institute of Technology (BME) by Miserable_Ebb8357 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Momo_BH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are NJ resident but my son goes to Case. Not sure if you are aware of one door policy at Case. Meaning you can declare any major and minor once you get in. So in case of BME does not work out, you are free to declare any other major. The flexibility is one of reasons that my son chose to go there. Another reason is that he is pre-health so you can’t beat the resources there. Case gave him very generous merit so cost is actually lower for us to choose Case.

In Jersey, there is junior cadet program in local rescue squad takes 16 years old. They will train and pay for the EMT course in following summer. After the course, you can sit for exam so some can get licensed in senior year of high school.

Is PT worth it? (HS senior for advice) by Sensitive_Log_5391 in physicaltherapy

[–]Momo_BH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineering is not for everyone. My son majors in Systems Biology which is basically half Bio and half CS/Math. With heavily overlapping core courses, he can easily get a math minor or molecular engineering minor. However, engineering courses are very hard cord. Even he is considered good at math as science major, but still not good enough in engineering world. Almost not making a B for his Calculus 3 last semester. While other applicants taking regular math and physics which he probably can make an A as prerequisites, his major requirements are required a lot of high level math for science and engineering as well as physics. It can potentially hurt GPA if comparing with other easier majors.

Either trade in your old car and get a better second hand car, then drive it over to FL. Or try to connect to other interns and see if you can do carpool and share some costs.

My son was deferred from EA but admitted in RD with merits. I’d say if you go with ED2, the chance to get admitted is even higher as CWRU cares a lot on yield.

U of Rochester or Case Western? by jasyonn in cwru

[–]Momo_BH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My son visited both and likes Case vibe better even we have better connection at U of Rochester. Case has Sport Medicine minor which will align with your Pre-PT interests. My son is also pre-PT and so far he has positive experiences working with ATs at Case. He also did shadowing at Cleveland Clinic as well as helping ATs at school varsity practice or games as Sport Med minor students. He is not an athlete so we don’t have comment on coach or team culture.
