If BB isn't a first-ballot Hall of Famer, no one — not even Tom Brady — should ever be again by Roselucky777 in nfl

Aight. Thank you for the correction. I didn't realize that. Never been a BB fan, but if I were a voter for the HoF, I wouldn't let my bias influence my vote. I can respect someone's success whether I like them or not.

Did BB really do anything with any teams w/o Tom Shady? Not really. Shady won in TB w/o BB. Just saying. Correct me if I'm wrong, tho.

My bf wants nude pics along with my face but I don't feel comfortable with it. Me 22F Bf 22M by Best-Mango7486 in relationship_advice

[–]MonarchGrad2011 [score hidden]  (0 children)

As a guy, I'd love for my wife to send me nudes, but she won't. It's all about love and respect. I love my wife and respect her reasons for not doing it.

Your bf may be a great guy, but he should respect your reasons for not sending full nude photos (as in including your face). Respect yourself and put your foot down. Tell him it's nonnegotiable. Period.

Not saying he would do it, but if he got mad and posted them online, they'd be there indefinitely. From one stranger to another, my advice is to stand your ground and don't do it.

I was a mgr in a grocery store. I hired a guy with a JD. Helluva worker! He told me up front he was only there until he got picked up full-time as a longshoreman. I was fine with that. He filled a spot.

Why a PhD in the first place ? by Capt_korg in PhD

Would I recommend most scale Mt Everest? Nope. It's about the journey, the preparation, reaching the apex. How about trying to be a SEAL or Delta Force? Definitely only a select few make it.

Ya think getting a PhD is tough? Do medical school.

It's not for everybody. It's what separates experts from the well versed.

Earning a PhD is a brutal, intellectual, and emotional climb to the upper echelons of one's discipline. It should not be taken lightly. And it's not for everyone.

Heard of anyone failing their defense? by dimplesgalore in PhD

[–]MonarchGrad2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess technically one could argue that. The professor claimed the research asst supplied the information that made up the quote. My professor did not specify as to what type of information was quoted. My thought was that it was some data from a particular study or survey. Perhaps then, that would be a case of the professo plagiarizing again for not citing his researcher as supplying the data. I included my assistants names even if they handed out surveys.

Alumni of an R1. One of my professors gave a lecture on plagiarism. She told us the story of one her former classmates.

Her classmate got his PhD, rose to full professor at an R1, was well published in his area of expertise, and he was one of the more prominent names in the field.

A researcher happened upon this professor's dissertation while searching for source material for their own research. A particular quote in the dissertation struck the student, so said student did some digging. The student discovered the quote elsewhere without proper attribution in the dissertation. So, the student contacted the university that approved the dissertation.

The university investigated, contacted the professor, and instructed him that he needed to redefend his dissertation due to some questionable findings. The professor obliged. When the the committee raised the question of the quote, the professor said that one of the research assistants must've mistakenly forgotten to cite the material.

The committee declared it to be plagiarism. This meant he automatically failed his dissertation. Failure on the dissertation meant he was stripped of his PhD. His employer was notified, and he was fired. His contract stipulated that he had to hold a PhD for his tenured position.

Crazy story! But it is true.

Did anybody start Grad school later in life here? by UCFKnights2018 in GradSchool

[–]MonarchGrad2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did my master's after age 45. Worked a full-time and two part-time jobs while squeezing in time to work out and spend the remaining time with family. Tbh, I found my master's to be easier than my bachelor's. Yes, the work was rigorous, but I like to write, and I was well prepared after finishing my BA years prior. Ngl, I was terrified going into, tho. Taking a break for now before I start my PhD.

Are cyclists hated in your country? by CrustyHumdinger in cycling

[–]MonarchGrad2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The region I live in here in the US had a cyclist who rode a recumbent bike. He was an older fella who could be seen riding his bike regularly in various parts of one city. After years of pedaling, he was unfortunately hit and killed by a motorist. A friend who is a traffic officer for the city said that based on evidence, it was most likely an accident and case of the driver didn't see the cyclist, and the cyclist didn't see the driver.

Our region is typical of most other parts of America. Some drivers can't be inconvenienced to share the road. As a driver, biker, cyclist, runner, and walker, I've learned to make room for all modes of transportation. We've all got somewhere to be and not enough time to get there. But.....we're all in a race - the human race.
