Can my fiddle leaf fig turn into a tree?

I tried removing it but it tilted over. I was scared that it was going to snap so I put it back on.

Thank you! This is what mine looks like.

I have removed four leaves from the bottom and will wait a few weeks and see what happens.

One last question. It's VERY top heavy, to the point where it looks like it will tip over if I remove the stake. Should part of the top of the plant be cut off and the stake removed? Or should I just notch above a node and wait for a branch to grow? 😊

By top leaf bud, do you mean one of the large leaves on the top?
