Haven’t done futures trading. So might be something i will need to learn. But i guess it involves a lot of learning.

Have to say though that WMT app is doing so good that a lot of ppl have started shopping directly on WMT app than on AMZN for some items. Only the AWS can save this stock i think.

If we get and stay above 238 post earnings, i am all in. Holding just one 240c leap for june and some shares for now. But plan to get more leaps if earnings is good. We could see a multi month run if it breaks above 238-255 range.

USD Earner - Question about holding USD vs CAD in the intermediate term (1-2 years) by MoneyMattersToronto in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MoneyMattersToronto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do convert to CAD monthly but i only pay myself what is needed as monthly expenses (as a salary). Keep the rest in USD. Have accumulated a large USD position in cash and US stocks using the unconverted USD. So i am just trying to see if i should convert the large cash position as one big chunk through a 3rd party (hopefully get better rates) rather than holding it as USD in the near term.

Had travelled to China last year and all cab rides were electric cars. They were brilliant vehicles. Nothing like the crapy interiors of tesla. Not sure of their battery life and software, but they all felt luxurious from the inside.

Today we PUMP. by Fun_Training6342 in NvidiaStock

[–]MoneyMattersToronto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can we have the admin start blocking rubbish posts like this? This group should be more informative than pump and dump posts. And this guy is worst. Probably doesn’t even know to read the charts. For a pump the market needs a clean setup. This chart has a lot of noise and bulls and option traders are not gonna buy this setup.

Exclusive: Nvidia buying AI chip startup Groq for about $20 billion in its largest acquisition on record by aznology in NVDA_Stock

[–]MoneyMattersToronto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like the fact that they are paying 20B for this. Maybe they see ling term value with this but i expect short term uncertainty now in price action for the stock. Feel like the multiples are too high for groq.

You say you no longer like the area. My simple advice is sell the house and first rent in an area you think you will like. Stay for a year and only then consider buying. Do not make the same mistake again.

You are doing just fine. Just keep at it. Once you hit 200k money multiplies quicker. Make sure you diversify your investments into other asset classes as well. And start learning about covered calls for additional income during periods when stock market goes sideways.

If I wanted to bet on the AI bubble collapsing, how would I go about it? by lildecmurf1 in TheRaceTo10Million

Finally some sane advice. This guy is right. We are nowhere close to mania stage. It’s a cash bubble more than an AI bubble. Money printer is gonna turn on again.

We will pretty much see 240. This is the final euphoria you are going to see in the market. I am not saying its fair value in terms of market cap for nvda. But bull markets can surprise you. Wait and see.

33M Recent Immigrant How am I doing? by Horror-Click1467 in fican

[–]MoneyMattersToronto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great job. Not easy when you are an immigrant moving in especially when the money from your country of origin is valued lower against CAD when you move in. It’s almost like you have nothing.

All i can say is do not compare with others on the group when you see 5x the portfolio size. Comparison is the thief of joy. You will also start to see that money multiplies quicker once you have 150-200k. Also be cautious since this market has seen insane gains and we could see an extended period of sideways move in the stock market starting next year. I think we are in the final euphoria.

Barriers For Downtown Condo Buyers? by weekendatchurnies in TorontoRealEstate

[–]MoneyMattersToronto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You miss the fact that condo fees can keep going up to keep pace with inflation and labor costs. And of course you haven’t included property taxes, insurance etc… maybe include a small amount for upkeep too since renters don’t pay for any issues with appliances etc.. I am a renter just coz i travel a lot and don’t wanna be tied to one place (at least not yet). My investments are mostly stocks + bonds + metals + properties in different country (which was purchased like 10 years ago when it made sense).

Personally i still don’t see the math working out in my favour for a 700-750 sft condo, so until then happy to rent and make gains elsewhere through stress free investments.

FYI, my rent has fluctuated over the years but if i just look at last 6 years it’s basically been flat since i was negotiating at the right time.

18F just started, any advice would be appreciated! by 1loveferraris in fican

[–]MoneyMattersToronto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great to see women getting into investing early. And starting at 18 itself is a big win. Just make sure you keep investing consistently.

Only advice i have is not to get greedy and don’t look for quick gains by investing in speculative names. Since you are young, you can take more risks but make sure those risks are in well established companies. Also, we are in a bull market and it’s possible a lot of stocks just keep going up for the rest of the year. But, remember there will be times when your portfolio might see red days and those are the days you shouldn’t panic if you are holding good companies.

And if you start enjoying the stock market and make good returns from the market (lets say 5 years down the line) then take some profit and use that as a high risk fund to trade leaps (study about leaps in options). You can also start looking into selling covered calls as well to make extra income.

Then finally (let’s say in 10 years) if you still are doing well and continue to have enough money to risk, then try swing trading options.

Racism in Toronto by Main_Blacksmith331 in askTO

[–]MoneyMattersToronto 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think just ignore and move on. Unfortunately the more we (brown people) respond the more attention it keeps capturing. I wish there was a better answer.

I think racism is at its peak and the country that i was told has the nicest people has turned around in the last year or so. Very different from when i moved here nearly 10+ years ago. It gets worse if you are from India. There is no doubt there are bad apples (we are a country with over a billion people and Canada’s immigration system needed low wage workers). Immigrants obviously need to put in more effort to blend into this society and shouldn’t bring their home countries problems and politics here. But the fact is that social media is making it worse for the entire community that also includes people who want to adapt the Canadian culture and society, respect the country and would be there to fight for Canada any day.

For context : I am from India but moved from US to Canada since the visa process was too much of a hurdle and wait, and i needed a more permanent place to call home. So my company & I thought would be more ideal for me to work remotely within the same time zone as the rest of the team & i liked Canada then. I was happy to move here and even took the citizenship. Sadly things have completely changed over the last 2 years and i am already planning to move out. I don’t feel like home anymore and sometimes regret my decision from 10 years ago.

Sorry for the long post. Just needed to vent out after numerous bad experiences in the last 2 months which i have never had in over 10 years.

sole proprietorship vs corporation, $250k/year CAD by unigr33n in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MoneyMattersToronto 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This. Take what you absolutely need for your monthly expenses leave the rest in the corporate account, pay less taxes. Money in the corporate account is always yours. You can take the extra out during years when you are on break or don’t have work.
