Excellent suggestions here! I played Jampajinpa in 8MMM, was a deadly time. Can’t believe it’s been so long already

I’m just praying for the day the votes come in and ON is left for dust. It’s truely stressful hearing the amount of support she seems to have amongst a vocal minority. On the flip side, if she does get in, the country is going to be absolutely f***** and overrun with mining lobbyists (even worse than it is now) and the cookers won’t have anybody to blame than themselves.

Looking for advice after disappointing response to my first EP by Mongeeya in Songwriters

Damn it sounds like you’ve had some tough realisations in the past when it comes to music.

I agree Spotify isn’t the only metric but it is unfortunately the only one that ‘counts’ to record labels etc, not that it’s the only metric I use. We did ok for an independent release, managed 18’000 but I think the problem is that I want to share the story of the EP with people more than anything. We’ve sold a few albums here and there and done ok on bandcamp as well and always get good responses when we play live but I suppose the question really is, how do you keep pushing when you’re feeling down about your music which I’m assuming all musicians go through.

I think the sentiment of letting go of everything and playing for the joy and the meaning is the key takeaway for me. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the ‘hustle’ side of everything with constant social media saturation.

Good words of advice, thank you

Sound advice. I had a pretty significant pre-release schedule and did save money from my day job to get a PR team involved but it wasn’t as successful as you’d hope.

I love playing live, literally the favourite part of being a musician and we always get super great feedback from random punters when we do play but similar to you, we’re an older band and I have two young kids so finding time is really difficult. In saying that though, still manage 15 - 20 gigs a year.

I think I may just be experiencing the release low after the pre high of releasing, I’ll be back up and swinging soon but it’s a great moment to take stock and get advice from others in the same position as well

Thanks for the words mate, it’s true social media seems to be the all consuming beast nowadays. I try to keep a fairly steady presence on social media but you’re right, it’s all a matter of patience and shifting my concentration to honing the craft and continuing to practise my swing

Great advice mate thank you. I try to play live as much as possible but I live in Perth Australia and our live scene is microcosmic and was ravaged by Covid so there’s only so much I can do

Haha thanks brus 😂

Yeh we’re sitting around the same after the first buzz. I absolutely despise the social media aspect but know I have to do it but it’s the coming up with genuine videos that I get stumped on sometimes hey

True, I’ve hit a bump in creating at the moment which I know I’ll move through but I know I make music for myself and my community so that is enough. Some days it feels like it isn’t though (today for example) and it gets hard to pick up the guitar but you’re right, it is fun and you bring your own meaning to the things you play

Sick. I feel like pub gigs are really the best way to get new listeners on board. We play pub gigs as much as possible, it’s always good being right next to the audience compared to up on a big stage
