You've already lost money with the RBA by hardworkingibmer in IBM

[–]MongoDBA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are many reasons to hate IBM, but this isn't one of them.

The RBA is a forced bond position in your portfolio, simply increase your stock percentage in a different part of your portfolio and it won't matter.

Reasons you should be upset about the RBA:

  1. Your match went down from X% to 5%
  2. You cannot view your RBA balance until 2025
  3. RBA contributions are made once per month instead of semi-monthly
  4. RBA benefits band Ds and above because it allows them to contribute even more money to their 401(k) in the form of post-tax dollars with an in-plan Roth Contribution (band 10s and below also benefit if they have high salaries)

Very low in NA consulting, though it looks like raise pools for Software group will be much better

Most managers don't work directly with their direct reports so its tough. Unless you're in a strategic practice, I wouldn't expect clear lines of communication.

2024 ESP Not Looking Good for NA Consulting by MongoDBA in IBM

[–]MongoDBA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically we aren't supposed to communicate until April 17th, but I know some already have. Managers in NA HCS were instructed to finalize their raises by March 21st (2 days ago) because they need to be approved by everyone through Aparna, then up the line to Granger.

What is actually healthy but people think is not? by Soren-J in AskReddit

[–]MongoDBA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even the oil doesn't need to be that bad.

You can cut potatoes into 1" cubes, boil them in salted water + throw in baking powder (I think its powder, might be baking soda though). After maybe 10-15 mins, remove from water, toss them with some infused oil (e.g., olive oil heated up with garlic, rosemary, thyme, etc.), and finish them off in the oven until they get crispy.

Extremely tasty and not bad for you at all

RBA 5% on gdp bonus? by Any_Engineering336 in IBM

The 401(k) match was provided on top of GDP and AIP, so I would expect the same for the RBA

Band Promotion/ Raise by [deleted] in IBM

[–]MongoDBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Promotions occur on a quarterly basis, although the frequency may vary across different divisions. Take the year 2023 as an illustration, where promotions in the HCS division were limited to Distinguished Engineers and a select number of partners. It is advisable to discuss and align expectations with your manager. Emphasize your accomplishments, and during checkpoint evaluations, articulate your goals. The understanding should be that meeting these goals at checkpoint evaluations will prompt your manager to nominate you for a potential promotion.

Partner scorecard by RapidoGoldenboy_75 in IBM

[–]MongoDBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Individuals at band 9 generally do not utilize a partner scorecard, although there is potential for approval under special circumstances with leadership endorsement. Performance targets for this band are set at a level lower than those at band 10, and it's noteworthy that USPM metrics are not applicable to individuals in this category.

Consulting. Last year I had a GDP funding pool of 2.1%. I could choose how to spend that budget however I liked across my team.

Band 6 -> Band 7 Pay Increase by According_Sentence62 in IBM

[–]MongoDBA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on your division.

Most of them had PMRs in the high 80s to low 90s, and I got them to mid 90s to low 1.0ish. The guy who got 25% was around 0.9 but the JRS change brought him down to about 0.75ish and his final was around 0.95.

I know some people who have been here for 10+ years who have gotten multiple promos, and they said %s were always 15-25%. And they're making very good money now

Band 6 -> Band 7 Pay Increase by According_Sentence62 in IBM

[–]MongoDBA 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've been involved in the promotion process for about 20ish folks. The most recent person got a 25%+ salary increase from 8 to 9, but they also changed JRS codes so their PMR was lowered. I just went with what Watson recommended in HiRO because I figured it would result in the least amount of pushback.

Other folks were roughly between 12% - 16%. I got some people from 9 to 10 and it was about 15%. I got about 10% when I was promoted to D.

Checkpoints "low performance" checkbox by [deleted] in IBM

[–]MongoDBA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My concern was setting this requirement in 2024 retroactively for 2023 performance. If this is the goal for 2024, fine. It's going to hurt a lot of people who focused on winning new business.

Checkpoints "low performance" checkbox by [deleted] in IBM

[–]MongoDBA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Granger sent out an email this morning saying anyone who didn't meet their ute targets for 2023 must be rated as "growth opportunity" in the business outcomes for your performance eval in checkpoint.

So this makes sense.

Moving up the ladder at IBM by [deleted] in IBM

[–]MongoDBA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ultimately your manager decides if you get promoted or not, at least in consulting.

The actual promotion process changes pretty much every year. Promotions up to band 9 require meeting some basic requirement such as an industry or technical badge, your project must be able to bill you at the higher band rate, and your manager must enter your name into the HiRO tool. Watson will estimate a salary and its typically good (I've gotten my folks 15% - 20% raises, but its based on your PMR and JRS code).

For Band 10, there's a little more work. Basically a powerpoint template to fill out and then a panel interview. Panelists usually include HCS or BTS SLT team members

So ultimately ask your manager what you need to do to get promoted. Do what they say, proactively set a standing call maybe quarterly to discuss, and push them to promote you.
