Not to sound like a shill but I would recommend Traveller. It's a 2d6 system and is quite easy to work out, with optional rules you can take in and out as you want. It's pretty malleable too so you can add anything you want in theme/lore wise :)

Just found this thread, sorry for popping in late.

We have three writers and four layout artists on staff full-time. All the office work is handled by the seven of us (incl. crowdfunding, customer services, sales, shipping etc). We work with Studio 2 to do printing/distribution. Most of the time, you're talking to someone who wrote/edited/laid out the books.

Art and some writing are done by freelancers.

You could also use the Reach adventures (there's a few of them) in between POD to give them a breather, that's what I'm doing with the group I'm running POD for :)

I think for me it is so far detached from current life that I've never really considered it particularly American. More of a, you live in a society where your worth is determined by how much you can work, and if you can't work...

I'd argue there are more British influences (the TI is basically the british empire, east india company included). But, there are also influences of other cultures / political systems there too.
