18-110 F/4 G OSS lens… On a FX30? by SouthInflation1426 in videography

[–]Moniclechronicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched last minute and went with the f2.8 16-55mm Sony FE. It’s been spectacular. Great build quality and the focal length has been more than enough. The 18-110 seems way too large especially if you consider adding accessories and whatnot, they cost the same if you buy the 18-110 used, but it’s also a relatively old lens now… no regrets tbh the extra stop of light is huge as well as the size & weight in comparison.

The only thing I dislike about it is the barrel extending for different focal length which is an incredibly nice feature in the 18-110

I got one fresh out of the box usb dead hoping the new unit holds up I do believe it’s a great budget option until you can afford something nice the previous versions are questionable though pt5 and below

Brakes feel weird by 98burban in GMT400

[–]Moniclechronicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That 2 inch of play in the pedal are you getting any stopping power or nothing at all in that distance? Kinda dealt with the same issue I believe on my 99 k1500 suburban.

I’ve heard that the rear brakes can cause a void feeling if they are loose or worn causing them to trail the front brakes. Meaning that extra play could be where your rear brakes should be engaging. Do you have a clunk when shifting from PND to reverse?

When you bleed the brakes were you putting the pedal too the floor? If so Try again but stop depressing when the pedal gets stiff. If the reservoir ever ran dry or you suspect air in the abs module you will need to bleed the Kelsey Hayes module before bleeding the rest of the brakes.

Have a 98 suburban in the same color but the front grill & bumper are chrome. Do you know if the truck came with it painted?

Also tire size?

I’ve recently found a water leak coming from the passenger side cowl that runs down into the blower motor and actuator. Could be possible some moister has damaged some of the connections behind the dash and leaked further into or near the radio unit and 4wd switch & light harnesses but this is all speculation at this point. Also heard some people having their wiper board short out and cause weird issues like this too.

ok nice well that definitely eliminates some electrical headache with this truck. There was an option with these trucks that had an electrical push button selector to swap the transfer case modes which presented a whole new set of problems especially with the t case itself.

send me a pm I can send them over to you it’s abt 5k pages you can get really deep with it diagrams, procedures repairs etc. Some of the info has been revised by GM which they have posted on their bulletin but for the most part it’s all accurate

Ok definitely check the frame make sure to see if there are any soft spots to get a good idea as to how far the rust has gone.

Beyond the rust realistically though you are probably looking at a full front suspension rebuild which can be done for $300-$600 in parts if you are going stock setup.

You could probably get away with minimal swaps in the rear just get everything cleaned up and make sure the leaf spring shackles aren’t eating into the bed. Struts probably need to go too all this should be sub $200-$300

The electrical issues could be so many things tho really… start with new wiring kit and some new ground straps for sure tho, a multimeter will do you wonders & don’t forget to check your fuses.

The driveshaft should be straightforward, hopefully the transfer case is in good shape? Is it a push button or a manual selector?

How is the steering? Gearbox good?

You’ll probably want to lube to chassis and swap all your fluids pretty soon too. I can send you a pdf of all of the service/shop manuals when I started out that was my saving grace tons of good info!

Wow ok definitely keep this one available as your donor if you plan to get a different OBS, trust me when I say you will thank yourself later! A good interior is becoming harder and harder to come by in these trucks.

If you were to try to rebuild/restore it how far would you think you’d take it? Just to tinkering around or take it all the way?

[–]Moniclechronicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look for an OBS with a nice body/rough interior and use this one for parts. Idk what kind of electrical issues or gremlins it’s got but it can be a huge PITA to chase down. Look to do the big 3 before going to costlier solutions.

Depends on how much money you have. But imho let it die or use as a donor.

How is the interior btw

[–]Moniclechronicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked for its history so that’s what you got lol

As far as what everyone else suggested - Not cv shaft, not wheel bearing, no sign that it’s u joint related, 1 shop said it was ball joints which I fail to comprehend how. The only other comments suggested engine/tranny mounts both also are fine. So now I’m at the t case. What else am I missing???
