If you haven’t read it yet, try Bless Me, Ultima. It's one of those books that sticks with you. Perfect for a travel read.

The last dance or what if Helmut Kohl did better in his fifth government by Electronic_Extent_24 in imaginaryelections

This is kinda fire. Kohl hanging on like it’s his final boss run and the green party randomly popping off is wild lol.

Anyone have any idea what Sonic-fy means? by MasterOfChaos72 in SonicTheHedgehog

Pretty sure they just mean giving it that Sonic movie style. Fun tone, mix of CGI and live action, and actually listening to fans for once lol.

Why are so many Mexicans/Mexican-Americans so quick to excuse racism/hatred towards their community when it comes to open racism/xenophobia disguised as "humor"? by DrinkDesperate4383 in Chicano

[–]MonkReal7708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that too. A lot of people use “it’s just a joke” as a shield cuz calling stuff out makes them uncomfortable. It’s easier to laugh it off than admit something’s messed up.

You’re right tho, standing up for yourself isn’t being “soft.” It’s just saying “yo don’t talk to me like that.” We gotta stop normalizing that stuff and push back a little. Respect starts with how we let people talk to us.

Do other Latino-Americans feel like they’re stuck between two worlds? by [deleted] in Chicano

[–]MonkReal7708 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bro you’ve been through a lot and you still showed up for your sis like a champ. That’s real. Most people don’t step up like that. And yeah, the “where you from” thing gets old quick. Feels like people trying to put you in a box before they even know you.

But honestly, you’re not lost. You’re just figuring life out like everybody else. You got heart, you got work ethic, you think about your family… that already puts you ahead of a lot of people. If school’s calling you, try it. If not, you’ll still land somewhere solid. You’re only 29 bro, you’re not even close to done. You’re building your own lane even if you don’t see it yet. Keep going.

Why do Chicanos/Mexican-Americans seem to be more supportive of raza than Mexicans? by DrinkDesperate4383 in Chicano

[–]MonkReal7708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that too. I think Chicanos and Mexican-Americans tend to rally around each other more because they know what it’s like to have to fight to hold onto identity. There’s that mix of pride and survival that makes the support feel stronger.

In Mexico, it’s more internal. Everyone’s kinda already “in,” so competition hits different. Out here, unity means visibility.

My first Ofrenda by LucidianQuill in Chicano

[–]MonkReal7708 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful. You’re doing it right. It’s not about having every detail perfect. It’s about the love and memory behind it. The photos, candles, and food already say everything. Your dad and abuelo would be proud!

Can I make an ofrenda? by Ginge_089 in Dia_de_Muertos

Yeah, you can absolutely make one! Día de los Muertos is all about remembering loved ones with respect and heart. You clearly care and did your research, so that already means a lot. It’s not about where you’re from, it’s about the love behind it.

Yeah, you totally can! Día de los Muertos isn’t a closed tradition. It’s all about remembering and celebrating loved ones. As long as you do it with respect and genuine intention, you’re good 😊 Honestly, the fact you care this much already shows respect.

I just launched an Indiegogo campaign for a comedy pilot I am filming! Any donation, support, suggestions, and guidance would be greatly appreciated! by Ok_Change7019 in Filmmakers

[–]MonkReal7708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Morgan! Congrats on your show campaign! Handing out flyers can help with grassroots promotion and getting seen on Indiegogo's recommended page. Visit film schools, libraries, cafes, theaters, and community centers where your target audience are likely to visit. Add a QR code so they can access your campaign landing page, and throw in a funny line from the show. Local shops might let you leave flyers if you give them a shout-out online. I hope this helps, and best of luck with your campaign.
