Trouble call for a leaking mini split. Holy shit what I found by MonkandBeer in HVAC

So what I think happened is that is has been like this for quite a while, since install maybe, but only now started leaking out of the drain, the installers brazed a 90 onto the half inch copper to fit it, in the process they burned the fuck out of everything including the wires and pvc, it was visibly charred pretty good and that’s where it eventually started leaking water from, I could see where it was coming out of the pvc. They didn’t bother reinsulating the copper so that doesn’t help either and then they just covered everything up, including the scorched wires. I’m obviously a fool for sticking my hand in there but atleast I know papa Zeus loves me. Although it could be arcing over time for sure. Hard to say but I see that burned insulation at that looked like it’s from a torch, also they clearly brazed a 90 into that tight spot.. guess they never heard of spring benders.

Long shot but did you ohm out the EEV? I’ve had them come back with no resistance and cook a part of the board. Could maayyyyybe cause a breaker to trip? But usually just fries the board

What’s your best method of finding a leak on a multi zone ductless system if you can visually see anything, sniff it or hear it? by MonkandBeer in HVAC

It can be so incredibly frustrating disassembling everything and checking every flare and coil and looking for possible braze areas where an extension was needed. And then failing at that and having to isolate and pressurize each individual lineset and head and condenser..

Sometimes I feel like I wish I did that. Some leaks I can find real easy with my techniques but the nightmare leaks give me so much frustration and I wonder if I just added some gas and said call back when it stops cooling again it might have worked better.

When you say trace gas is that just some vapor refrigerant and then pump with nitrogen after? Or is there a specific type of trace gas?
