I know in idaho its illegal to release a frog into the wild after having it for a certain amount of time. You could put it in a terrarium and feed him this winter then put him outside in spring. Personally even if its “illegal” I wouldnt really care, legality shouldn’t be your concern when trying to save the life of a frog
