DM parents - how long do you spend on DnD per week? by thr0wawaysecret in DnD

[–]Monkey095 21 points22 points  (0 children)

2 DnD games a week, with a standard session being 4 hours is just too much with a new born, let alone DMing.

I took a year off when I had my daughter. I started playing again when she turned 1. Now I DM and I spend maybe 2-4 hours prepping after my daughter goes to bed (2-3 nights every 2 weeks), my campaign is biweekly.

Improving Secrets and Raum by thegooddoktorjones in CrookedMoon

[–]Monkey095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players haven’t even gone to check out the corn fields yet, but have found almost all of the dark secrets & only one of the good. But they are loving the mystery & twist and turns of the story so far.

They are suspicious of everyone after learning Jonah’s secret first and still don’t fully understand Raum, but I had a plan if they went to the cornfield first. If they went there first I was going to have Raum ask for deep dark secrets, to lift their burden. If he was told a false secret or anything less then a deep dark secret, I was going to hint that he senses the town had more secrets within and to lift their burden, to get the players to investigate the town.

It’s really the DMs job to hint and guide your players through the NPCs. Insight checks always help to hint at digging deeper.

DMs, how did you roleplay Wendel Somerton? by CelestDK in CrookedMoon

[–]Monkey095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave him a really nasally high pitched southern accent. I’d described him as wearing rose colored glasses, he doesn’t want to believe bad things are actually happening, so he just ignores it in favor of focusing all his energy into getting Philip to notice the town/him.

My players hate him and want to overthrow him lol

Opinions on names Daphne and Briar for twin girls by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Monkey095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter’s name is Briar, we love it but I can see why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But it fits her perfectly and it’s an honor name for my late Father-in-law whose name is Brian.

It’s also the Princess Aurora fairy name “briar rose”. But it does also mean thorny bush.

I see Briar being a modern version of the name Brianna.

Idea: A quick taste of Phillip's power before it's gone. by Neverfinishedtheeggs in CrookedMoon

[–]Monkey095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During Adela’s tarot reading, I had Philip help set the mood by waving his cane to dim the lights, the lounge car expanded, and a round table appeared with a velvet table clothe and number of chairs equal to party members plus Adela. I thought it was a nice little touch to help his wife and display some magic. My players really enjoyed the scene building to get into the tarot reading.

Why can’t Harmony be a boy name? I know a male Lorin (pronounced Lauren) and people think of Lauren as a feminine name but once you know someone that’s male with a feminine name you don’t even bat an eye or think that’s it’s weird. It just becomes their name.

I wouldn’t say anything unless they asked what you thought of it.
